Spongebob can be amusing but his laugh irritates me:mad:. Fairly odd parents is good:). Sky has any amount of kids' programmes but I don't think the stuff is as good as back in the Seseme street, Banana Splits (with the Arabian Knights and Valley of the Dinosaurs) Pipkins, Muppet show days:). Maybe we feel the things we watched were better 'cos we were young ones then, getting lots of enjoyment out of them. I still like to watch the old Scooby Doos, not the new ones or even the ones with Scrappy Doo in them.

Tom and Jerry is still king for me, even beats the Simpsons.

    Others:
    Top Cat,
    Animaniacs, (Hellooooooo Nurse)
    Mutley and Dick Dastardly,
    Road runner,
    Dangermouse,
    Pink Panther,
    Yogi,
    Flintstones.

Animaniacs was one of the best cartoons of all time. Can't understand why they stopped that.

Correction, Pinkey and the Brain was the best. Not 100% sure, but there may have been a new series a couple of years ago.

Edit: Nope, just re runs on Boomerang. They've stopped them now.

The simpsons was never meant to be a kids cartoon. One of the very early episodes is about homer's sperm count. If you didn't mean that it was a kids cartoon then never mind :D

Spongebob is hilarious. One show that used to wreck my head was the amanda show if anyone remembers it. Even when you're older you can normally watch a kids show and get some enjoyment out of it but that show was just lame, annoying and not funny.

The best was TMNT for me. When i was a kid i had a crappy turtle costume which i wore whenever we had pizza :D

I stopped when i reached my 20's though, it seemed silly at that point

    Ah, Power Rangers was awesome.

Bosco was class...and Animaniacs...used to love Looney Toons as well.

I remember when kids 1 or 2 years younger than me started going mad for barney when it came on....even then, i found it slightly disturbing

Also: used to be addicted to dexters lab :D

I like fairly odd parents and fosters home too. the one where they're meant to go to europe is brilliant!

has anybody ever watched genie in the house? It is the worst programme ever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

    fosters home too.

Brilliant. I could watch the bowling one, over and over. Listen to the GURU, the ball is you, become one with the ball!

Dexters isn't bad, Ed, Ed and Eddy is looped. The Young ones for 10 year olds.

This thread is giving me a serious dose of nostalgia. So many great cartoons iv forgotten about.

I don't think Thomas the Tank Engine or Thunderbirds has gotten a mention.

Tom and Jerry are the kings though. It still makes me laugh when i watch it now.

One of the great "joys" of RTE scheduling in the old days was that they would somehow end up with gaps to be filled with something and that usually meant a cartoon from either Warners Bros or Hanna/Barbera so stuff like Mr Magoo, Roadrunner, Foghorn Leghorn, Woody Woodpecker and Tom & Jerry were on several times a week.

    Classic Coyote V Gravity moment

Spongebob is ledge. But all other kids' cartoons and programmes treat children like idiots, and have lazy, predictable, boring writing. I'm not just saying this cause I'm old and jaded (really!) but I'm sure I would have hated cack like 'Drake and Josh' and that odius cash-in 'Hannah Montana' as well , if they were around when I was a kid. The problem is it's all too safe and they are afraid to show anything controversial. The early-90's Batman cartoon was great but they probably wouldn't make anything like that now because it's too 'scary for kids'.

Bring back the old stuff I say!

    And for nostalgia's sake- \o/

No mention of Dogtanian and the 3 muskerhounds, l loved that when l was small. Does anyone remember Sandokan, a cartoon about pirate tigers? Network 2 had it running for quite a while

Sweet Jesus. That show just insulted the intelligence of whoever watched it. I hated it, even when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I think a lot of kids' show are trying to be like that - 'stupid-funny' instead of 'witty-funny'. I mean, why bother writing good jokes when you can have Dancing Lobsters ?
