Rejoin the UK - Yes or No

I'm putting up this poll just for divilment really.

If the economy went completely and the only way Ireland (south) could survive would be to rejoin the UK (assuming of course that Her Majesty didn't tell us to piss off - politely of course!)

Who would be in favour of such an action?

Firstly, can't see Ireland going down without Britain, as the world economy would be the biggest threat to either. Secondly, if it did happen Britain obviously wouldn't want us. And thirdly, if they did accept us it would hardly solve our problems - plenty of countries have massive differences in living standards from region to region (e.g. Italy). If our economy is already ****ed then joining England isn't gonna make much difference.

I voted Other. Assume that means the bit of Ireland that didn't get out years ago should now leave. :pac:

    YES!

If we hadn't left or even had kept Sterling we might not be in as bad of a situation as we're in now or at the very least not have a load of dimwits running the country. They might be able to make a half decent job of us now if they would take us but I think HRH would politely decline.

I'd say hell would freeze over before anyone south of the border would agree to that. Why would that ever be an option? Sure their economy is in a bad way as well! Rubbish idea to be honest.

This question is asked too often, what's worse is that the people who are serious are the ones who don't realise there's more to a nation than it's economy. :s

Well aside from the fact that I hate poetry and don't know many people with this so called "diddle-eye" condition, I should also point out that parsnips aren't everything.

    Also butter is disgusting.

Yes "we" did, in 1800 the Irish Parliament voted to join the UK. It was just as representative of the Irish people as the then House of Commons was of the British people. (i.e., not very)

    A Definite NO.

Do we want to be ruled by an up and coming fascist state? NO

In the News Yesterday. The UK is now considering to ration holiday flights to cut down on greenhouse gasses.

...or pay any GP visit bills, or build any infrastructure.

I think Irish people regard the UK as much the same way as people from Cork regard the rest of the country.

We need to build a bridge, get over it, and maybe get some jobs over there.

    Again.

As Uncle Gaybo said sometime in the mid 80's, we should hand the place back to the Queen with an apology note.

Our complete self-regard as a nation has led us to take our eye off dodgy politicians.

Who cares, just as long as we're being swindled by our own, bejaysus and begorrah, shure have another planning application approval.

We need to get some money into Ireland, not join the UK.

To do this we could sue the UK for mental trauma caused to our relatives down through the centuries, compensation for Cromwell coming here and giving us the option of hell or Connaught, not a great choice really :p and then we have the apology from Tony Blair for the famine so where is the money? We will have plenty of barristers, senior counsels etc out of work with the tribunals shut down, well they can be used to sue foreign nations for any bad that happened to us from foreigners...
Then we have among the lowest amount of forests in percentage terms when it comes to area of land under trees, well the British cut them all down, we are still waiting for payment for that wood and its a lot of wood....

We don't need to join the UK, we need to sue them since the taxes from property deals has collapsed we need more revenue, it would be good if we good get all those legal eagles who took a lot of money from the state with tribunals to now make the state some money.
    Its time to start suing......:D

Gay Byrne? What an elitist ascendency p'rick, while the rest of the country was shuffling in a dole queue that b'astard was eating turkey dinners. Out of touch b'astard. Makes me respect Pat Kenny.

Wrong. Only Protestants were allowed to vote and at that, only middle class Protestants, they even excluded the Protestant poor.
Catholics formed 80%+ of the population at the time and they did not have the right to vote. Look up Daniel O'Connell and his campaign for Catholics having the right to vote.
I'd rather join Germany than the UK. They have a track record in been prudent with their economy. (Hitler jokes aside :D)

And if we were to "rejoin" that would mean we were originally in the UK which we were not!

We are already economically dependent on the UK in terms of trade, retail etc it wouldnt make much of a difference if we joined them or not.

    Independence in name only.

    Spain could join us

Aren't we suppose to be descended from people from Northern Spain....

We then would have Ireland North - our current nation and then we could have Ireland south - Spain where we could take our holidays...
Our tourism figures would go up by over 40 million....we would have a great soccer team, some fine tennis players, some fine motorsport drivers etc

We need Spain to become a part of Ireland....
