There was someone out after 16 minutes or less which beat last years fastest.

Someone went out with KK vs AA though I didnt hear the story.

QQ, KK, AA, 44, JT. fk it maybe even KQ/AK/AQ. he only needed ~33% equity to make it a correct call

not that i'm saying pushing most of those hands is standard/good play

We can't know what sort of read Albert had on his opp, but if we include KQ,44 and 10J in his range, hero has roughly 60% equity, even if we drop KQ and 10J, we've still 50% equity, so on the face of it, given the price we're getting it looks like a bad fold.

sickest fold ive ever heard of!!!! lol at people saying its a bad fold!? best fold EVER! imo. one which i along with 99.9% of other people certainly wouldnt have the discipline to make and ive made some sick folds. man that would be some story if he went on to take this down! GO ALBERT ;)

 that would be the worst way to play AA KK QQ in this structure, i hope that guy was brought outside and whipped for such a bad play, if i didnt know any better i swear that was me playing that hand.

+10 he should have been awarded the pot for a fold like that!;)

Yep I understand that in 99% of the time this fold is beyond horrific but it is going to tilt me beyond belief when Al gets bashed for this. We have no idea the guy he was up against ie there are some people who will LITERALLY have one hand here JJ-all of the time. It could be the best fold it could be the worst basically I dont think its fair to judge without being there. Fair fooks Al imo.

Dont think the button play is that bad to be honest-99.9% he gets all the chips-as the player he is up against has shown he has a huge hand and people do not fold huge hands.

Dermot 170k, due a tourney result tbf, as for al's fold, the guy basically told him he'd JJ supposedly

That was a very good fold, but with this structure and without any any history of what had gone on at the table previously,it seems reasonable tbh.
That push screams jj,not saying it always is,but blimey you're an excitable bunch.

I some how knew this hand was going to make the forum :)

I was murdering a cash table by running better then God when I heard about this. The folder seemed very happy with himself, though I must admit I was thinking... hmmm, I dont think I can be crowbarred off middle set myself.

I think we had this before with Flushdraw in some legendary thread no? (ie; the argument of how much weight to give reads). Not that I want to go back to it. :)

As for playing LAG... I dunno. But I've come to love railing this tournie in just two years (not even!) because of the sheer bewilderment on some peoples faces as they try and work out what to do with 50k in chips.
This isnt a tournie for LAG players, its a tournie for people who can play turns and rivers :)

    DeV.

Could i have a chip count please on Phil Starrs, or is he out?

Fwiw, I think Albert's a superb player and all that seems to make sense to me is what Marc said above, ie the guy literally told him he had the nuts.

I played a couple of cash tables with Albert thursday nite and i think he is a brilliant player , he makes some great moves and reads and laydowns all the time . Good luck to ya Albert , if you do take it down it would be well deserved.

I was perhaps a tad harsh, and my apoligies to ITT-pat.

What I mean is that it's a very Vicki Corenesque type of comment.
While folding middle set would in most situations probably be the wrong choice,in this instance it was clearly the right one and a very good play at that.

This tournie allows for such a laydown, which admittedly most of us wouldn't make, but how many hands push in 40k chips after a check re-raise(?) into him?

If this was a bad fold, and a call was preferrable to anyone who thinks it is, then enjoy your pint because your out of the tournament.
I presume Pat was insinuating that the qualititive nature of the situation would have him call, presuming one can't go on to win the tournament folding in such spots, but this is only a presumption of course.
In every sense, including the obvious, this was clearly a good fold, but the situation obviously warranted it and while I can understand someone thinking it was a bad play,I find it ludicrous to read such a comment given the information made available to us.

But all things considered I am probably talking out of my arse;)

how anyone can say that it was a bad lay down is beyond me.
    a lay down i don't think i could make .
but have on occasions not many mind u .
but this type tourie u can make these laydowns at the early stages and still be in with a chance . he only lost 20% of his stack so still had plenty time to get it back . u cant win these touries on the first day .

QQ, KK, AA, 44, JT. fk it maybe even KQ/AK/AQ. he only needed ~33% equity to make it a correct call

not that i'm saying pushing most of those hands is standard/good play

apparently the guy with JJ stopped short of turning his hand over and showing him the JJ. it seemed like he was afraid that albert was flushing and he wanted him out of the pot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭akkenny

i guess i should clarify a few things, first of all pat how can you put up a range of hands that he could have when you have no idea what kind of player he was, he was playing very tight and my first instinct on the hand was to call, but after working out imo that he was only pushin there with three hands, j10, 55 and jj, and after talking to him for a few minutes about the hand he made a statement saying "i know im ahead at the moment but what comes on the turn and river may change things", i said "so you have top set then" and he replied "i have the nuts at the moment" and i belived him so i folded, to be honest if he kept quiet i was calling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭akkenny

oh and im out btw, lol, blinds were 400 800 with two limpers from early position te button shipped for 14 to 15k i think his range was pretty big here and i called with ace queen on the bb or sorry shipped all in actually for 30k roughly he had ace j and he spiked the flop, went out last level 30 minutes left, was short on chips, thought my overall play was pretty good, a couple of hands would have helped but was card dead all day.

Great fold Albert: from the speechplay the guy basically told you his hand.

Very weird day for me. More or less gifted a double up first hand (a guy managed to stack off on a KQ96 board for 1000 BBs with KQ), after which absolutely nothing went right and I just decayed back to 39900.

Flipper made an amazing fold which I'm sure he'll be along to tell us all about at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭akkenny

cheers doke and just cause the guy says he had the nuts or top set doesnt mean he does always have it, in that case ill remember that speech play the next time i ship with a bag of sh**, but i was pretty confident he had it.ha

it amazes me how when someone makes a good fold , people try to redicule the play. FFS

I guess folding to oversets upsets the poker gods, I'm gone also but should have been gone much earlier due to some rigged flops.

    AKJ holding AK agiant JJ

    77 on a K, 8, 7 flop, agianst KK

10s in agiant j2 doneycall, rivers his flush (rubbish player)

I made one horrendous call earlier, but generally happy with how I played,

10 hours of frustration, not one pair above 10s preflop in that time :(

yeah I thought that was an amazing fold when Flipper told me about the hand just there. I'm probably thinking a different type of amazing, I had to ask him to repeat what he said a few times until it sunk in that he folded in that spot.
