Should I use the extra bars in the squat rack?

In my gym they have the squat rack with the two set of bars near to the ground mayb 2 foot and 3 foot above ground level but they also have these bars you can put at three different levels. However when I do use them, which is rare for this reason, if I'm squatting I try to get as low as possible and if I hit the bar I lose alot of concentration and form and have to drop the bar sometimes or the rest of my set suffers. I only sometimes hit them as my squat goes mayb half an inch into were the bar is. I don't think I need the bars as I figure if I fall on the set (hasn't happened yet!) the bar will fall on the other bar 3 foot off the ground and not land on my head!

    Thanks for your help :D

The bars should not interfere with your lift, you could seriously injure yourself with heavier weights and losing concentration at the bottom of a squat.

One piece of advice I would give is to fail deliberately once, with a weight you find light, so you're familiar with what happens if you do fail for real. I have only failed once, it was with a work set and it scared the **** out of me, if it wasn't for the safety bars (set at about 2ft I think) on the rack I'd be in a wheelchair now.

The bars are there for a good reason, but should in no way interfere with your lift.

    Nate
