    About as many as there are millitmetres in a string!

    Seriously one persons idea of healthy portion could be huge. Also depends on the veg, people can eat potatoes in huge amounts, so can get a lot of calories in. Sweetcorn is also surprisingly high in calories.

    I am just back from "lets eat in", the portions looked small compared to the usual chinese/indian takeaways huge helpings. They are in cubic boxes so it is deceiving. I am in work & had a scales handy, I also like to calculate calories to show people the reality of takeaway portions, rice was 310g, korma was 520g. 830g in total, now most microwave kormas are 300-400g, so it is over twice that. The rice was the size of a decent mug.

    I would guess at least 1200kcal, will have to have a look at some rich korma sauce labels and try and figure it out better. There is a thread on WW points in diet & nutrition and some of the WW guideline points for takeaways are ridiculously low.

    You say boiled veg mix, so I presume it is a packet, in which case just read the packet and weigh it. If you have no scales then estimate your portion, e.g. 1/2, 1/3 the packet then check the packet weight overall and calculate accordingly

    Does anybody know the Calories in an average chicken fillet from an irish butcher, and the carb/fat/protein content? Sources on the net seem to differ.

    If the veg are carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, beans (string, green, runner), onions, asparagus or kale, don't bother counting calories - for one their calorie content is very, very low, and second of all they're high in fibre and will pass right through you.

    Aubergine, parsnips, sweetcorn, peas, sweet potato and regular potato can be eaten in moderation, but honestly I'd only worry about your intake of those once you've got everything else in your diet pristinely clean - they should be relatively low on your list of things to be calorifically stingy with ;)

    As a general rule, a portion of green veg is around 20-40 cals per 100g. Mixed veg that includes peas or corn or carrots runs around 50 cals per portion. Root only veg is around 60+. Any fats used in cooking bump up the calories. Aubergine is 15 cals raw, but around 100 cooked in oil.

    A G'em says, worry about everything else. If all you ate was mixed veg, you'd be a long time putting weight on. If you eat a huge portion of veg, it probably means less bread, or less spuds, etc. So in that regard, upping your veg intake will only be good for you, never bad.

    Thanks for the replies. I've just started using fitday and am calorie counting for the first time.
