    Hey,

    Just looking for some pointers.
I have been keeping an eye out for second had weights (weights, dumbells, bench) on gumtree and adverts but unfortunately I havnt had much look.

So I am just going to buy exactly what I want. Where is good to buy weights - for as cheap as possible, although I know that they are not too cheap. I stuck my head into Elvery for example a while back but they didnt really seem to have to much on offer? The weights they had all seemed to some in stupid combinations - for example 4 x 0.5kg, 4 x 1.0kg which seems useless really - abit too light. I would be looking for heavier combinations.

    Any ideas?

Or anyone on here want to part with their own weights?

    Thanks

I presume Elvery's(sp?) are in Dublin?

Don't know if this is of any use to you, but I got mine in Maher's in Cork, good prices too if I can recall. Got 5kgs, 2.5kgs and 1.25kgs for the dumbells.
That was part of a deal though, need to go back and get more 5's for the bar.

ARGOS, is the best place to get plates, last year you could get 20kg in either 4 5kg plates or 2 10kg plates for about 20 euro, now its up to like 33:mad::mad::mad::mad:, but still a good buy, since they will last foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thats still cheap, get them while you can. The Chinese have caused steel prices to go up, and I imagine, like gold, steel will go up with the downturn in shares. The new argos catalogue is out and lists the 4x5kg black steel plates at €41.79, and the 2x10kg at €39.99.

The price you see is actually a sale AFAIK, and is going to go up around 16th feb I think.

The 50kg set is going to be 99.99 and the 20kg dumbbells will be 46.79.

Irish lifting are good as mentioned, they do trigrip plates at €2 per kilo. And they have a much better finish/paint job than the black argos ones.

I bought some gear from Irish Lifting and have no complaints. He delivered to the door, was very friendly, gave his phone number in case I needed aftercare and you can talk to him about a discount for cash if you buy a certain amount of gear. The stuff he sells is good quality as far as I can tell and won't need to be replaced in a couple of months when you start to lift heavier weights.

Along with my irish-lifting gear I was benching on a crappy York bench with a combined weight limit of 160kg. The combined limit means you include the person and the weight. I'm 90kg and improving my bench (slowly) so I figured I'd get a new one. Irish-lifting have one for €199 which is more than I can afford right now so i bought one on ebay here. Cost me €75 including delivery and after putting it together I can say its fairly solid.
