    HI guys,
im 13.5stone and 5ft 9, im geting married in 4 months and was wondering what id have to do to get down to 12.5 stone. I used to jog 3/4 times a week before christmas but havent since early december, but i still play 5-a-side football twice a week.
I do generally eat healthy, a typical day would be the following:

7am: 2 weetabix hot w/ low fat milk

8.30: coffee 1 suger low fat milk

1ish: two sandwiches whole grain bread with ham or chicken

6ish: dinner. boiled veg with chicken breast/steak or chops etc... if not this it would be pasta with a cream sauce and chicken

8ish: Cup of tea 1 suger and milk with a biscuit or two

thats usually it... i might hav a banana in there somewhere aswell

i would also go out maybe once every two weeks and have 7 or 8 pints of guiness

any advice would be great. thanks

3 lads in work lost more than a stone each in a month, by cutting booze out completely.

They were starting from a much worse place than you, so maybe consider switching to a 'light' drink if you have to drink.

    Get back out jogging!

    where is the weight?

hit the gym 3 times per week on top of your 5 aside, diet looks ok, cut down on the biscuits and cream sauces

You can get down to about 9 stone in 4 months. I know people who have done so without going mad with exercise or dramatically changing their diet.

Do some light weights and a 45 minute walk/run 3 times per week.

Cut out alcohol and takeaways/chocolate/crisps. The odd treat is fine.

    How long are your jogs?

Don't get measured for your suit until you have hit a weight you are planning to maintain for a while or at least for the wedding. You don't want to look like a rapper with the trousers hanging off you.

You need more exercise, less alcohol, less sugar, less sauce... and a bit of will power. Good luck!

what is the consequence of having 6 or 7 pints of stout every other friday or saturday? is it really that damaging

    hey positive note

    the lads are right
people who quit cold turkey gain more weight or die:P
due to your bodies natural reaction to fat burning
its stores it longer and doesnt allow to break down as fast
so keep your natural diet and just quit the booze
and do a bit more running

as cold and crappy put as it is.. a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do
    and besides
youll feel well better lookin top form in a fewyears looking back at your wedding photos:P

Well, if you have 6 on the Friday and 1 on the Saturday you'll get locked on the Friday and have one spare for a hair of the dog on Saturday.

If you one of 3 on the Friday and 4 on the Saturday then you'll get merry both nights.

Either way, you'll consume about 1400 calories (7 * 200 cals minimum per pint).

A 5km run will burn approx 400 cals for someone of average size travelling around 12kmph. This means you only have to run 17.5km to burn off the 7 pints. The faster you run, the more you spill, the less you have to drink, so the shorter the distance will have to be.

Replace sugar in tea or coffee with honey...slow releasing carb... so you shouldn't experience cravings for sweet foods later. There are no health benefits in sugar...there are plenty in honey. :D

Try alternating every second pint with either a pint of water or if you can't manage that buy a glass instead of pint for every second drink of stout. Gradual changes have a better chance of being kept. Good luck!

while i would agree that honey has more nutritional benefits than plain sugar, it is NOT a slow releasing carb, especially when added to tea / coffee etc - its fine for putting on top of your porridge or weetabix as the wholegrains will slow down the sugar rush

Are you being honest about your daily diet - I don't see how you could eat that and exercise and weigh what you weigh.

Well I'm not a nutritionist so will bow to your judgment. Have to say I always put honey in tea and coffee instead of sugar and I don't experience sugar rushes. Surely it must be better than sugar in tea and coffee...even if it is not a slow releasing carb as I wrongly thought. It has to be slower than sugar, no?

pete the brick, yeah amte im being totally honest, although thats been the diet for the past week or so only. .. but before that it was a take away every two weeks at most and never processed meats or veg, always the real stuff from the butchers and grocers. Maybe if i just keep to what im eating as stated belowand try and get out for a jog/walk for 45mins on a friday and sunday with the football on the mon and wednesday i will start to loose some weight...
if i do this is it possible to trim down the gut for the wedding in 4 months or am i at a stage where i have no choice but to stop my few pints, eat less and exercise more than what ive outlined.

buddy you have very realistic goals, and very acheivable ones. hopefully by the time your wedding comes you will have changed your goals and will hopefully be keen on keeping up your new healther life style.

when a person is a beginner like yourself its always best to start simply yet still efficently, telling you to go to the gym 3 times a week doing full bodies, hitting the squats and deads is all well and good but tobe onest its gonna build a hatred for the gym in about a week.

so forget bout the gym for now, you said you had some dumbells at home and a barbell, thats all you need for now.

Three full bodies a week, ie monday wednesday, friday, will be the first port of call. you need the day inbetween to allow your muscles to recover, and within these days you can also include some cardio.

ok so if i was in your shoes i would first draw out a rough plan of your average week, as in when you work, when you go socialising etc etc. then mark out times when you can train, at the begging half an hour will be plenty of time infact prob 20 mins will get the job done.

you want to hit the whole body, getting the big muscle groups to work, so lets forget about bicep curls for the moment.

ok first on the checklist is the good old pushup, depending on your strength you will be able to do different kinda and amounts, and dont feel disheartened if you cant do proper ones to begin with, all that matters is that you push your self,

push ups will work the chest as the main muscle and the triceps and shoulders as secondary puscles, you want to preform 4 sets, so pretty much do as many as you can 4 times with prehaps 60 seconds rest in between.

the next one that i would do is the one arm bent over row,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ8MAA3WNMM

this guy does a pretty good one without a bench, so all you need is a dumbell and arms :D, once again do 4 sets, the first should be very light and done very slowly, this will help warm the muscles. alternate from each arm, you can add a little bit more weight each set if you want but be aware that your just beginning and this is a range of muscle movement that your body doesnt go through on the average day so you will be stiff the next day, so take it easy so that by the 4th session your killing it.

the bent over row does back mainly, and bicep secondary, though as we can see in the video his whole body is working to hold the poisition, you may find it easier to lean on a chair like this dude, though do it slower
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQlvHgSqHq8

the next excercise will be body weight squats, when tring to transform the body squats are king, but for example it took me a month to even get the flexability to do a full range of motion, so forget about adding weight and just use your body weight.

u can face a wall and put your hands against it and
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd_lCvzCPjE
like this guy, dont worry to much about form at the begginging, just get your ass low to the ground and do them slowly and with control, haveing hands against wall will help. once again 4 sets

next is shoulders, so single arm shoulder press, just comfortable with light dumbell in hand and press into the air, slow and controlled.

then to finish if you want you can craic out some bicep curls :pac:

this wudnt be a workout that id do myself, but its one that you cud do as soon as your home, you have everyting that you need, and it will give your entire body a good wake up call.

ps: try to do these during the day and not last thing before night, after you do these ur muscles will be hungry for food

I'd also say cut out the beer for at least a month.

At the start of January I decided to lose some weight after seeing pics over Christmas and realising the trouser waist situation was getting critical. I was 34, 12st and 5'6".

So back to the gym and started walking uphill at 4.5mph (short legs) for 45 minutes and 20 on cross trainer plus a variety of weights. After 2 weeks I started to run, and am now doing HIIT which I find great and less of a chore. I also bought a swiss ball and started doing stomach exercises every day -at least 100 crunches. No drink, no sweets and 1500KCal a day. The last thing is so important; I look at the calories in everything when I go to cook and probably eat half as much as I used too, when, like you I thought I was eating healthy (I was, it was just too much steak/ spuds etc. hence the weight gain).

So now five weeks later I'm 11st2lbs and in particular nearly all my clothes fit comfortably again. Another week and I'll be up 2 notches on the belts and hopefully half way to the weight target.

    Best of luck!
