Ok, so have been meaning to try this for a while - as much out of curiosity as anything!

So, the various threads here and a little bit of googling threw up a million different ways to make them and a million different variations of ingredients... so I pretty much just opened the cupboard and threw in anything that looked like it might be ok in a bar/cake type thing!

This is how it went down:

Took a big bowl, put about 2/3 cup of low fat milk in it.

Think I threw in four scoops of flavourless protein powder and mixed

Threw in a small handful of porridge oats - mixed some more

Wheatgerm and milled flax seeds - mixey mixey!

Peanut butter (was no natural peanut butter in Dunnes yday so didnt throw too much in) - yet more mixing...

I have a kind of lunchbox thingy I just fill with dried fruit and nuts to throw on cereal etc so threw a couple of heaped scoops of this in. (Includes: Goji Berries, Sultanas, ground almonds, sesame seeds and other mixed nuts) - Sir Mixsalot!

Sprinkled in some chocolate drinking powder and mixed

Poured the fairly thick mixture into baking tray and squeezed some honey on top for taste.

Lashed it in the oven for about 7/8 mins on a medium heat then put it in the fridge over night...

    The Result??

Anyway, it was messy as hell! (girls are much better at this "baking" lark, let's face it) but it was surprisingly tasty. Will take some refining, of course, but for a first attempt, I was pleasantly surprised.

The mixture was still quite soft today even after a bit of time in the oven and a night in the fridge, so maybe I need to make the mixture thicker.

    ***

So, anyhoo - was wondering if G'em or someone might do me a favour and tell me if this is a decent protein bar or is it just too full of calories etc and likely to make me fat?! (assuming I was to have one every day or every other day as a snack) - They worked out about the size of a large, thick cookie?? :pac:

what timing im gonna give these a lash tonight...

    Combine in Large Mixing Bowl

8 Scoops Whey (Vanilla is very good)
    3 Cups Oats
1 Package Sugar Free Fat Free Pudding (Any flavor is good)
    2 Cups Skim Milk

Mix until a sticky batter is formed (may take a few minutes)

use a large spoon to spread out the mix into the bottom of a Pam-sprayed glass or metal cooking tray (spread until even)
put in the fridge overnight and cut into 8 equal bars that yield:
    3g fat
    28g carbs
    29g protein
    257 calories
These bars taste amazing, and are perfect for: breakfast, pre OR postworkout.

went out and got the stuff at lunch...bloddy took me ages to figure out what they meant by pudding....

    Try this Bulking Burger

    1lb of minced round steak
    Two mugs of outflakes
    One onion finely chopped
    Dash of worcester sauce
    Black pepper,chopped garlic,dash of salt
    Two whole eggs.

Mix the meat in a bowl with the onions, eggs and half the oats.
Add the seasoning and mix thouroughly.
Mix in the rest of the oats untill the mixture is easily moulded into a ball.
Flatten out into a burger shape and either oven cook, fry or George foreman.

I made my first ever sponge cake at the weekend. It was probably not the healthiest but had a fair bit of protein in there. It also tasted incredible! Great with tea.

    Ingredients:
    • 340g caster sugar
    • 340g butter
    • 340g self raising flour
    • 6 eggs
    • a few scoops of protein
    • a banana
    • .... pre-heated oven to 180

    Tasty Sponge Cake - Recipe:

    1) Mash the sugar and butter up into a bowl. Use a blender - much quicker than a fork.

    2) Add the eggs 1 at a time to the sugar and butter, whilst you stir. Mix gently for a few minutes.

    3) Add the flour 1 spoon at a time to the mixture of sugar, butter and eggs. Keep mixing. This took a while. Don't use a blender for this mixing step as it messes up the consistency.

    4) Throw in a few scoops of protein.

    5) Blend up a banana and throw it in.

    6) Pour the lot (now fully mixed) into your baking tin (lined with greaseproof paper and buttered up between the tin bottom/sides and paper). Level off and put in the oven for ~90 minutes, or until you can stick a knife in without it coming out soggy.

    7) Eat & enjoy.

I take it this can't be bought in Tescos, Dunnes etc? What's an alternative? Drifter's bars look a lot less work to make than mine!

The only suggestion I would make is to add a small cup full of wholemeal flour, and replace the milk with a large tub of natural yoghurt. This should make the result less messy and improve the end result without damaging what you are trying to achieve nutritionally.

I mix sugar free jelly with unflavoured whey & milk to make a protein mousse.
I have also mixed whey & milk with angel delight type mixes.

I have thought of making fairy cakes with oat flour and making some sort of whey based icing on top.

Been making protein flapjacks lately. More or less have the recipe down now.....

    250g oats
    80-100g unflavoured whey
    30g oat bran
    30g sunflower seeds
    20g flaked almonds
100-150g mixed fruit (depending on how fruity you want them)
    120g olive oil (or butter)
    Some milk
Some crushed candarel. I used 10. (or you can use honey / syrup / whatever)

Mix all the dry ingredients (except the oats) together in a bowl
    mix the oil in
add some milk to thin it out a bit (if you warm it up gently at this point it makes it easier in the next step)
    Mix in the oats
Stick in a flat baking tray on 180 for 20-25 minutes covered with tin foil, then take the tin foil off for 10 more minutes (or until they're golden brown).
Leave to cool in the tin.
    Boil Kettle.
    Tea + flapjacks = nyom.

I did try adding more whey one time, but it turned into kinda cake bars at that point. Whey makes stuff rise. They were still nice, just not flapjacks.

I'd second the wholemeal flour and natural yogurt suggestion. Otherwise they look yummy - I wouldn't be relying on them as a major source of protein or anything but as an occasional snack treat you could do a lot worse!

Yeah, mine were the same - still a bit soft so had to eat them with a fork! Tasty though.
