I'm struggling with this particular part of my body.

Have been losing weight steadily for about 5 months approx (2.5 stone in this period) through improved diet (cutting out processed foods mainly) and increased exercise. (Rugby training/match 3 times per week + one night 5 a side football + 5k run)

I should point out that both my diet and exercise would not appear to be as focussed or regimental as most of the users who frequent this forum.

I'm 6ft tall and currently weigh 16.5 stone (and would like to continue to drop weight) However the weight is just a number and my goal is to look better rather than weigh less - obviously the two go hand in hand to a certain extent.

I've seen reductions in my chest and waist measurements however the manboobs seem to be more prominent than ever.

Is there any advice as regards diet / exercise which anyone may have? any input is much appreciated.

(Apologies for rambling on a bit. i've tried to pre-empt some of the questions which are usually asked when similar advice is sought.)

I know some people eventually require surgery to get rid of their moobs. Hopefully you won't come to that!

Are you doing any weight work? I would imagine working your chest muscles might tighten up the area a bit (i.e. help lift some of the excess skin.) Bench press and cable chest flys are fun...

The number one cause of manboobs?

    Drinking too much beer!

Do you drink too much beer?

Is there any truth that hormones in chicken breasts can cause moobs? soya milk aswell?
Just wondering, cause I eat loads of chicken fillets.

Yep, the alcohol can affect things, and the hops in beer compound it. There are actually breast enhancement pills with hop extracts in them.

I've never heard of chicken fillets causing problems, but soya milk is definitely a bad idea. From what I've read it is so full of hormones it is similar to being on the pill.

try some zinc tabs, quote from charles poliquin:

Just about everyone is zinc deficient, especially people who lift
weights. Low zinc means increased aromatase activity, and that means man-boobs.

Weak... never heard that about Soya milk before, as a lactose intolerant with a fair taste for beer an awful lot has just been explained!

Is it the processing of Soya milk or the actual content of the bean that is the cause, does anyone know? (I've been alergic to milk since childhood and never liked any of the other milk alternatives)

It's the bean which is the problem. It is full of female hormones.

Assuming there is no metabolic/biochemical underlying cause significantly contributing to the problem, would I be correct in saying weights targeting the upper body would be the way forward?

Yeah, weight loss and chest exercises would be what I would do.

Another major ingredient is patience and commitment!

Probably wrong about this, but might be a good idea to avoid dips as these target the lower pecs more, so stick to bench / incline bench.

I'm bulking at the minute, I'm only 11.5 stone but I'm already developing man-boobs :(

Would drinking a lot of milk cause them? I've been drinking 2 litres of it a day since I started bulking about 3 months ago.

Also would running help to get rid of them or would this have no effect on that area?

People need to alse bear in mind that we all all different, and we all store our fat in different places. Some guys get huge bellies, others get moobs, others get big shoulders and chest.

So your moobs might just be the way your body stores its fat.

Banch, incline bench press, pec deck (lower weight high reps) and the good old press ups, along with a good diet, patience and commitment should help get rid/tone up those moobs!

Any excess of calories could cause moobs. Your body can only grow so much lean mass in any given time. If you supply it with excess cals they have to be stored somewhere, and some guys will be more prone to storing the fat on their chest.

'Bulking' is a slow, steady process - if you try and do it too quickly you just end up getting fat. If that's already happening it would be worth knocking back on a bit of your food intake.
Also would running help to get rid of them or would this have no effect on that area?
It'll help increase your energy expenditure but it won't spot reduce fat.

Oh I just Reliased that This Man Is Bulking Up. Im in a the same boat as him except direct direction.

Im losing weight. I have lost 2 stone but even at that i still have my belly, and flabby man boobs. Just a flabby look. What would you recommend me doing to tone down. Paying particular attention to upper(moobs) & lower chest area.

I just started a good diet and lost 2 stone without exercise so i presume thats why i still have the flabby look.

    Thanks

If you haven't seen much of a difference in the flabby look, or if your clothes don't fit you a whole lot better, then the bad news is that you have probably lost mainly muscle and not fat.

The good news is now that you know, you can start exercising (most important for 'toning up' is resistance training with bodyweight or weights) and start losing fat rather than precious muscle.

Really?? But All I did was cut out Junk Food and started eating healthy ??

Oh I really want to start a toning up routine. I done 2 weeks of press-up and could feel the difference in my arms.
I was also doing a few variations of Sit-ups but then was told i was wasting my time as i could have a six pack but it be covered by layer of fat,

What toning up home exercises could you recommend? Ones i could do e.g in My bedroom?

    Thanks

Exercise like situps are not neccessary a waste of time (though probably not the best one to choose from), however, it is correct in saying you can spot reduce fat.

What that means should be obvious, but fleshed out, this means you can't target a specific part of the body when losing fat. You will lose fat as your body sees fit.

So save invasive procedures such as liposuction, you're just going to have to eat healthily (which you seem to have achieved) and exercise.

You should do some cardio. Look into HIIT/Interval training (discussed here recently). If you got a pair of running shoes you could be on your way straight away.

Resistance training is also important. Most would say get equipment, join a gym, etc. However, you don't always have to jump straight into these - keep trying some bodyweight exercises such as:

    Push-ups
    Planks
Pullups/Chinups (if you can find something do them on, or invest in a usually cheap pullup bar such as those in Argos catalogues)
    Burpees
    etc

    Good luck!

In order to get rid of moobs, which are a results of having too many oestrogens and xeno estrogens (oestrogen mimicking chemicals), first you need to eliminate as many sources from your diet as possoble.

Sources are wheat (incuding beer), Soya, heavily farmed meat products incuding dairy (cows can be injected with female hormones to make them produce more milk) go for organic/free range alternatives.

Then you can help the detoxifying process by eating cruciferous veg (broccoli, cauliflour sprouts etc), taking grape seed extract & green tea extract all these will aid your fat loss too. Red wine is good for oestrogen detox too.
