Im overweight by 2 1/2 stone is it possible/healthy to lose a stone a month?

Ive changed my diet recently and it generally consists of:

B/F: 2 weetabix, 2 slices of brown bread

    Lunch: brown bread Ham sandwich

Dinner: Usually meat and 2 veg (chips/potato/rice)

Snacks: A chocolate bar (snickers or mars bar etc)- once

I drink alot of tea (no sugar) (probably up to 10 mugs- Im a bit of an addict but could cut down/replace with water if needed)

    Any milk is "Super Milk"

The most exercise I get is probably a 60 min brisk walk every day (weather permitting)

I have good will power tbh the only reason Im overweight is because I just didnt care but now that I do I reckon I can stick to a good weight loss plan.

So basically, what would I need to do to lose a stone in a month? (as long as its healthy of course)

Cut out the bread, chocolate and try and cut down on the tea.

    Right the chocolate is gone

Tea and brown bread, is something that Im goign to have difficulty with- obviously 0 a day would be best but how much do you think I could get away with for 1 stone in a month, or do I really need to cut them out completely?

(I thought brown bread was actually good for you/low in cal- no?)

Pfft leave in the bread, bread never hurt anyone. Just don't drink tea/coffee, it has a tendancy to make you want to snack, which is what you don't want. That snickers bar is a no brainer, if you want to ween yourself off chocolate then have a bourneville (or something with an even higher cocoa %) every now and again until it's completely out of your diet.

Lose the bread, fast carbs like bread are not what you need. The sandwich could be easily replaced by a salad and make the weetabix a bowl of porridge or some scrambled eggs. No more chips!

I would say a stone in a month might be a bit too much but certainly see how you get on.

I used to live on toast so that is going to kill me- but it has to be done. Yeh I thought the chips/potatos would need to go.

Any suggestions for very low cal snacks- to fill the hole of the bread and ease the suffering?

Low cal snacks - try fruit! Anything but banana's are generally low cal.

Cut out/down the chips, spuds etc, especially after 6.

You should look at adding in some more exerxise - a mix of weight training and cardio. Check out the thread that was posted the other day about Transforms spot on Today FM re interval training.

Also, personally i think a stone a month may be excessive. I think i heard two pounds a week is a good target. Make sure you take a sensible approach to weight loss - a crash diet might give you short term results, but in the long run you won't make too much progress.

Wow, I've been horsing the bananas into me whenever I need something between meals - not a good idea?

    There's nothing wrong with bananas.
better than a chocolate bar anyway!

Banana's are fairly high calorie (about 100 for a medium sized banana) compared to other fruits (about 60 for a large apple). Their just so yummy though, always have one sliced into my porridge in the morning.

How do you know you have 2.5 stone to loose? How did you work this out?

What are you stats? Age / Height / Sex / Weight?

Do you exercise? If so, what? If not, start.

    2.5 stone = ~16kg.

Aim for 2 kg per month fat loose. That is a nice sustainable rate. Don't attempt to loose 1 stone a month. I'm sure it is possible... but not advisable.

A good exercise program would allow you to have chocolate and an imperfect diet every now and again... however little to no exercise means your diet has to be perfect all the time to avoid weight gain.

you are making a good effort well done! regarding the diet, its ok but not very balanced. You should look up the food pyramid! Your aim should be a more realistic goal of 2 lbs a week not a stone a month.

Try to eat unprocessed food. This makes it quite easy to pick healthy food. For example, have chicken in your sandwich instead of that creepy ham stuff.

Remember that it's much easier to lose weight by not eating the crap in the first place, rather than eating crap and then trying to burn it off.

If you want to lose a stone in a month it is very possible and you can do it quite healthily. Depending on your cicumstances you could lose more or you could lose less.

Start lifting weights do full body superset training start with 3 days a week and build it to 4

Do interval training 2-3 times a week

Eat 6 meals a day. Add in more good fats to your diet Olive oil, avocados, nuts, coconut oil, butter. Omega 3 fish oil supplement. These will keep you full, block cravings and help metabolise body fat.

Eat more protein containing foods in each of your 6 meals fish, eggs, meat poultry.

Eat green leafy veg - full of fiber which will again keep you full.

Do all this and you will drop a lot of fat maybe not a stone maybe more depends on how your body reacts.

This works and works well, it is a very healthy way to live too.
