Bulking with a cold..

Got a minor cough and am all caught up. I was just about to get back into an 8 week bulk and now this..:(

I would have no problem working away with this cold, but drinking 2-3l's of milk a day with a cold wont be nice. But my question is; have any of you went on a bulk while having a cold? Do ya think I would be best to let the cold clear up before starting or just tear into it!? I play rugby too so I don't want my cold to get any worse to the point it would mess up training for sport and/or bulking.

    Thanks:)

I would let the cold clear up. And I'd cut out the milk until it does. Milk tends to make you feel even more congested than normal.

    Why an eight week bulk?.

I'm not slagging you (honestly) but I seen stats you posted and your not big at all. You should really just concentrate on getting stronger and eating properly and I promise you the gains in size will come.

Bulking for eight weeks, then cutting back (is that what your doing?) is a little retarded, don't take baby steps - take big mofo steps.

As for the cold, I'd almost always back off my training with a cold. Give your immune system a fighters chance of getting better.

Have to agree.... If you're gonna bulk, do it properly!

I do 8 weeks then 2 weeks off, then 8 weeks on, 2 weeks off etc etc Any longer than 8 weeks at a time would be demoralising as my digestive system acts up and I find this not very encouraging at all! Also, the break gives me a breather, both mentally and physically from the training(btw, I don't do cutting..at all!). I've to travel quite a distance to my gym via buses and on foot, pay into gym, then pay my way home again. This gets quite tiresome, and makes my wallet quite upset indeed!

As for 'big mofo steps', I'll decide what works for me.. baby steps for you maybe, but progressive steps for me.. that's not ''retarded''.

Maybe you should listen to people who might know a bit more than you about bulking,eh?

See Mairt is 19 stone and Hanley is 16 and a half or something...both what you might call "bulky"

    Just a thought.

Well I am taking their advice on board, but as I stated my digestive system isn't great when it comes to eating that much for a few months on end.. so I'd rather not go past 8 weeks as a result. I like the break in training too, as it gives me a breather and gives the body a rest too. I'm not saying this method of bulking is good or bad, just that it works for me.. which is important right?

    DOES it work for you?
How much muscle do you gain in 8 weeks?

Easy Degsy, eroo has said his digestive system suffers if he bulks for prolonged periods of time. As an IBS sufferer myself, I'll put my digestive health before my need for lean mass every time.

eroo, without going into the intricacies of what's going on with your digestive system (and I don't actually know what your 'bulk' actually consists of) be aware that milk can be a highly aggravating substance. While most people will have no problem with it, it contain a lot of allergens and is a known trigger food for tummy upsets.

When you take the two week breaks, if your reduce your milk intake and find that your tummy/ bowels right themselves, it may be that you'll need to find an alternative source of calories.

Thanks for the info g'em!:) It is nothing serious, just average tummy upsets due to increased levels of food.

Yes it does. Usually between 15-18 lbs. I'm not here to discuss my bulking methods, just wanted yer opinions on bulking with a cold.:)

You dont gain 18lbs of muscle every 8 weeks !

If you did you would be in a lab somewhere being studied by scientists

I didn't say it was all muscle, just that I gain roughly 15-18 pounds.. some of which is obviously fat as expected.
