    bad news for Munster
    http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/index.aspx?c=sport&jp=mhsngbojojmh
in fairness this rumour was doing the rounds for a while now that Paul was looking elsewhere for first team rugby.
O Gara realistically is going to be no. 1 for at least another season or two, Paul was a brilliant understudy and was turning into a fine full back too.
Interesting to see who they sign as a replacement.

Balls!!! I thought he did enough to warrant a good run at 10. What a disaster, having the boot of ogara and warwick on the pitch at the same time was fairly scary for our opponents.

Word is Tipoki is retiring this year too. Two massive losses for Munster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭myflipflops

Arguably Munsters most consistent player this year after Wallace. He'll be a big loss for them next year.

Who gets signed as a replacement will be interesting becuase jeremy Manning is rubbish and there's nobody really coming through at 10.

A big name to be brought in?

    Do you follow Munster rugby?

Manning has been great for Con since he joined at the start of last season, Bennett at Shannon is a good prospect, and there's a youngster at Garryowen call Burke who's highly rated.

Warwick is a loss, but we don't control the PAG I'm afraid.

Big loss but hardly a surprise, he was clearly the 2nd option at outhalf and I suppose he decided to move on but will he move Geraghty as 1st choice at LI.

Wish him well in the future.

That means if Tipoki, Warwick and Pucciariello all go as rumoured then Munster can go after three new foreign signings :D

I'm not saying there's no talent but would you having those lads play 10-12 Magners League games at 10 or start a Heineken Cup 1/4 final in O'Gara's absence?

Manning for me has been a huge disappointment since his fairly well heralded arrival. The guy probably has the ability but if you're going to argue that he has been anything other than poor for Munster in his time there then I'll certainly take you up on it.

I wouldn't have much issue with Manning starting for us in the ML, Warwick lost us a few games when he started for us last year but he came good. Players need to get experience.

After all, Conan Doyle went from the AIL to playing 50 minutes against the Ospreys and was crucial to our win a few weeks back, we need to place more trust in guys playing in the AIL when it comes to the ML.

Obviously things are different in the HEC, but O'Gara was given plenty of time to adjust to it (when it was a far lower standard too), we need to place some faith in a young, preferably Irish, guy sooner or later.

Manning and Doyle have had very little game time. This is a huge loss for Munster. Any chance or robbing McAllister or Mauger???? OH / Centre;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭spoon

loosing Warwick puts more pressure on finding a natural full back. I see the future for Earls at 13 (particularly if Tipoki leaves too), and I'm not sure I'd trust Hurley in the big games. I don't think we'll miss him as much at 10 since I feel Manning has loads of potential and just needs some game time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭[Jackass]

Warwick has been the best 10 in Irish rugby this season. (closely followed by Keatley imo).

It is a massive blow, but with Earls there and Barry Murphy looking good, I wouldn't be too worried if I was a Munster fan. Tipoki is a bigger loss, but again, it thins the squad out a bit, Leinster went through the same over the last couple of years with a lot of youth coming through in the backs and forwards (Kearney, Fitzgerald, Sexton, O'Brien, Heaslip, Toner, Healy) there'll be lots of good young players coming through at Munster and they'll get their chances. Wouldn't be surprised at one or two signings either though to add some depth.

RE Manning, I'll admit I haven't seen an awful lot of him, but I haven't been blown away by him on any occasion to merit him being anything more than a decent player.

Pure speculation but I'd say Munster offered him some extra cash in his pocket and told him he'd be playing a FB or 10 when he's fit and he was happy to stay. As I say that's pure speculation!

If it has just fallen through then He will just go looking for another team unless there was an offer to make him stay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

I really hope thats what the case is, tbh. Warwick deserved for a long time to be starting in some shape or form, and am glad to see him there now on a regular basis. Very strong, confident player, who really can be a joy to watch.

Heard he signed a new 2 year contract with Munster.Good to see him staying put.

The same scenario occurred a couple of years ago with Buckley and Bath. I'd say it was just his way of aggressive contract negotiation. Anyway he's staying put which is great news!!:)

It's weird that BBC Sport still have the move reported on their website, no retraction or update.

Thank god the deal fell through. He's a class player coming into the prime of his career, would have been an awful pity to lose him. I would guess he used London Irish as a bit of leverage, just glad he's going to be around for another few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Ginger

Great new for Munster. He's a class act.

It's a shame Leinster don't have a player like him. He seems to have the creativity to get a backline moving.

He really would be the starting 10 for most other teams.

Munster have issued a hands-off warning to Guinness Premiership club London Irish, who have claimed to have signed Paul Warwick on a three-year deal starting in the summer.

“He is a Munster player. He remains a Munster player for the next two seasons. It is that simple,” said Munster’s communications manager Pat Geraghty.

This is likely to create bad blood between the European Champions and the closest thing to an Irish club abroad as Warwick has been one of the province’s best players this season moving seamlessly between full-back and out-half as cover for Ronan O’Gara.

The former Australian Sevens exponent has added to his game since moving to Connacht four years ago and on to Munster at the beginning of the 2007-2008 season.

I think all we can infer so far is that someone has fupped up royally! Either Munster/LI/Warwick.

Agreed, from Warwick's point of view completely see the logic...Geraghty's better off in the centre so he'd get a regular first team slot, running one of the most exciting backlines in the GP. LI are looking good for HC qualification this year too, either through the challenge or the GP....

Might it be a case of Warwick trying to leave munster quietly but Munster making it public knowledge to make him look bad if he goes?

Personally I hope he stays, he can either play second fiddle to ROG and at least get game time at 10 in the ML and at fullback in the Heineken, as good as he is I don't see him beating out Geraghty for the 10 shirt at London Irish.

Well if Tipoki retires at the end of the season Munster will move Earls to 13, and then Warwick could be 15.

Great player for Garryowen alright, but just a little one....i vaguely remember him after coming on as a sub was then subbed off too?!?! O'Leary then took the last 2 kicks?! or was it was imagination!

Manning should not be an option for Munster, not up to the job!

Forgive me, little off the point but just had to air this thought!!

He came off and O'Leary moved to 10, with Stringer coming on as SH.

I could see why he'd leave. He'd certainly have a better chance to be first choice no.10 at London Irish, and they'll almost certainly be playing HC next year. And while I like Limerick as a city, I would say London probably has more going for it in terms of lifestyle. Of course there's the salary as well, I'd imagine London Irish are offering a sweet deal.

That being said, I hope he stays, he's a classy player, hope they keep him at 15 and Earls at 13 for the rest of the season.

He's staying with Munster. Was negotiating with LI, but he decided to stay. I have that from as close a source as there can be. I'm sure the story will unfold in the media later on.

Its still up on the London Irish site.

If he's gone, Munster should bring in Ian Keatley and develop him under O'Gara - would be a great move for the youngster and Ireland and just imagine the things that chap could do with better outside backs (no disrespect to Connacht)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,138 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Keatley is better off staying in Connacht and actually getting game time for now (That way he'll be nice and primed to come back to Leinster :P ).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 kingking85

We could do with him back in Leinster now!! Nacewa should be on the wing or the bench!!

Thats bloody terrible news. I almost rate him as better than ROG. Huge loss for Munster.

    keep up richtea
hes still a munster player and has two years left in his contract

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭[Jackass]

I'm worried about Keatley now. That would be a massive gaf on Leinsters part if we failed to get him back, and worse case scenario, lost him to Munster  :p Hope Warrick stays exactly where he is, at Munster!!

A DEFIANT London Irish have shot-down suggestions that their deal to sign Munster fly-half Paul Warwick has fallen through by revealing that the Aussie ace signed a contract with the club over two weeks ago.
The Exiles announced on Tuesday that the former Connacht back will join on a three year deal in the summer. But Munster were quick to rubbish these reports, saying Warwick was going nowhere.
However, London Irish spokesman Paddy Lennon has now revealed that the the fly-half, who is out of contract with Munster at the end of the season, signed on dotted line some weeks ago.
He said: "Never in my 15 years at the club have I claimed that we have signed any player without all of the legal issues being resolved first.
"And there is no difference with this deal.
"Paul signed a legal contract with us on Tuesday, January 13.
"And the situation is exactly as stated by the club on Tuesday. Paul Warwick will be joining us on July 1st when his contract with Munster runs out."
I hope it's not true but it does seem fairly clear cut if they have a signed contract..

Then the question remains about Munster branches reaction? Behind the back signing possibly?? Huge loss for Munster, probably a Championship title signing for London Irish. They ll be twice the team they are with PW at the helm.

Warwick is good but you're getting carried away. he was a sub last year, and still lacks the control to be a top level outhalf, imo.

This is a strange, strange situation. At first I thought LI were getting ahead of themselves but it seems that Warwick really has signed a contract with them. Whether he's changes his mind, didn't keep Munster informed, or Pat Geraghty is just being irritating again, who knows.
