I think the hardest part of trying to get in shape and lose weight is the wait I mean even if you make progress your still fat until you get to your goal I started on january the 5th at 293lbs and after the first week I was down to 287 after the 2nd week i was 284 and this week im 282 should I be losing faster. I started a thread here before xmas but I just couldnt get going with all the social gatherings going on

11lb loss in four weeks is excellent going!! Well done. I'm hoping to put on weight at that rate :)

Keep a log, its nice to know what you did and also to see where you're going. Also handy for advice from other members, and if nothing else, its a momento from the moment you started the path to looking and feeling better.

.Unfortunately losing weight is a hard slog.
    though your making great progress.

Though as a wise man once said to me

"You spent 10 years putting it on, and you want to take it off in a month?"

It takes time but is very much worth it.
I found weighing myself every morning, and writing it down helped.
Every day might be up and down but normally I was down on where I was a week earlier.

I even put it in Excel and graphed it. It's easier to see a change there.

P.S. Be carefull of losing weight too fast. I used to use a electronicn body fat scales as well and when
I was loosing two pounds a week, I was actually losing almost all muscle.

when I was losing a pound a week I was losing almost all Fat

If it was that easy, everyone would do it.

Congrats on what you've lost so far, keep working hard and eating smart.

The average person can only lose around 2lb of fat per week max. If you are losing more it is muscle & fluids. The last thing you want to lose is muscle as it uses up calories just to maintain it and keeps you strong.

Most starting out will lose a lot of water/fluid weight, then it slows down.

You are certainly not going too slow. I aimed for 0.5lb per week loss, and keep it off easily enough now since I did not screw my metabolism up, weight training will increase the metabolism too.

You will probably have weeks where you lose nothing or even put it on, wieght is only your force acting on the scale, if you are hydrated you will weigh a lot more.

Keep track of other things like measurements, take pictures, get some well preshrunk tight jeans which act as a tape measure all down your waist & legs.

Keep note of the wieght. If you do have a stall just calcualate the average in that time, e.g. if in week 10 you lose nothing, you still might have lost 15lb since week 1, so it is still an average of 1.5lb.

You're doing well. I've worked behind a fresh meat counter, and if I gave you 11lbs of minced meat, you would be surprised how much is in it!

Keep up the good work. Its by no means an overnight process, but its worth it. And you will start noticing it soon. I think the best way of measuring it is by your clothes. Pretty soon they'll be getting a lot looser. The visible loss helps give a little instant gratification.

Something that i found helped was to buy something that was slightly too small for you, and then gauge your fat loss by it - week by week you'll notice it fits better and better, until it fits perfectly and you need to go out and buy something a size smaller to judge against. Its also think it helped to motivate me - i would set myself a goal of fitting into something in a months time, and work towards it.

    Hi :)

First of all - well done! making the decision to lose weight and get healthy is half the battle. I found what helped me while losing my weight was not focusing so much on the lbs I was losing but on how I was feeling - I started noticing I had better energy, that my skin improved - I felt stronger and started adding a minute a day to my walk (before I knew what was what I was walking an extra 30 minutes a day!) also, instead of focusing on what foods I couldn't have I focused on trying to get all the foods I should be getting (trying to eat 66g of protein a day, 5-7 portions of fruit and veg and 1.9L of water is hard work!) I also joined a support group - found that when I was having a bad week or feeling disheartened the other guys doing well inspired me to keep going
    Best of luck!
