Hurt my groin.....not asking for a diagnosis. What I am asking is what do you generally do when you strain your groin? I was thinking about ice baths and plain old rest, anything else I could do?

No one's ever come up with a better solution than rest I'm afraid. Groin injuries can be pretty repetitive so prehab would be your best bet once you're back on your feet. Plenty of stretching and I'm a recent convert to foam rolling in an attempt to cure myself of repetitive little muscle tweaks I seem to be carrying. Comes highly recommended.

Dunno how you did it but if you play a lot of sport or work out a lot you may be like myself prior to my new years resolution and neglected the muscle aftercare.

Not sure how bad it is and you should probably see a physio. I ripped my own and caused some serious damage and have recently been going to the physio. Mine is badly swollen (imagine a golf ball under your skin.....uhhhh!). After two sessions with the physio there was considerable improvement though.

Anyway, I didn't want to pay for physio sessions anymore cause it's a bit expensive so I asked him for some home care advice so he told me to place a hot water bottle on the affected area for 5 mins, then cold for five mins, then follow with hot one more time and then cold a few times a week. This was to reduce the swelling. I then have to massage the area in a downward motion towards my knee (you probably shouldn't do this unless you are shown but he did tell me I wouldn't cause any damage doing this). I normally do this in the shower. And finally about 3/4 times a week some ab exercises with a ball between your knees with your knees bent.....squeeze in the ball 50% max with your knees and do a normal sit up....back down, squeeze 50% max again with another sit up and for the third sit up squeeze the ball 100%.....start over. Your abs should remain tight at all times. Do this for about 5-10 mins per day...that's a toughie

Another is, to sit on your bump, bring your feet as close to your bum as you can with the soles of your feet resting against each other and push your knees down to a comfortable level without separating the soles of your feet from one another..and then push down a bit further.

These should help, and are harmless so won't cause damage but best to get yourself checked. I initally hurt my groin slightly...and it was 6 months later that I seriously ripped it apart when I should have got it looked into and treated at the beginning..so be careful.

Cheers for the advice. Has come on a bit but still not even 50% yet. Going to ice it all weekend and see how it goes.
