You drop 5c... do you go back and pick it up?

I was in Dundrum shopping centre earlier today, and took a rest on a bench while the g/f wandered into clothes shop after shop...
Two young teenage girls went into the shop opposite where I was sitting, when one of them dropped 5c while getting something from her wallet... and she looked back and could see where it fell, but she just kept on walking once she realised it was only a copper coin.
When I was her age, I would have gone back to pick it up, knowing that was a Tangy bar, or half way to getting a Chomp!! Even now, I'd pick up any change I drop.
So, if you drop 1c, would you pick it up? 5c?
Or do you let the coppers be, should they fall from your grasp?

Do you pick up small change you drop by accident?? 136 votes

Money is money!! I pick it up even if I didn't drop it!

5c or less... ah, it's not worthwhile picking it up.

I'd pick up an Atari Jaguar if I dropped it... anything else is worthless anyway

Of course, we're in a recession. Every cent is needed. I used to just dump coppers in the bin. I now have a big jar I collect them in and save them up.

I think to be fair you could not buy a chomp for 5c so whats the point.

Im not putting my back out to pick up blue collar money anyway.

Let the proretariate fight on the floor for it. :D

I normally just couldn't be arsed with 1c or 2c as they keep falling out of the little hole in my wallet, I pick up 5c as I use that for bus change.

I would make my servant pick it up.

Have you given the servant manual handling training? They could sue you for your coppers if they put their back out.

I'll pick up whatever coin once it's within reach, don't think it's a good mindset to just leave it.

I hire amputees exclusively. They don't have unions because they uh....can't fill in the forms.

of course I would go back and pick it up unless it landed in some dog turd ... then I would have to leave it...

Leave it there an hope it'll bring someone who picks it up luck...for some reason.

The best thing about amputees is they don't cost an arm and a leg.

Hmm nothing less than 50c, unless I have specific change counted out for cigarettes or something. I'm just not bothered tbh.

They can't leg it from the scene of the crime either. Although to get anything done they'll need a hand.

    Now the bigger question,

A note above €10 with dog crap on it. Pick it up or leave it?

Diligent workers though, tell them what to do and they'll hop to it.

that is a tough one... if it was a hard turd, I would kick it off and pick the €10 up, if it was a soft squishy turd, then I would leave it.. now, if it was a €50 or €100 I would have to hold my nose and go for it...

So what? I'm the master and they're the servant. It's not fair for them to shoulder the blame.

Sounds like they'd have to toe the line , but there is really no kneed for all this servant talk.
Not pointing the finger or anything , just saying.

I literally used to throw coppers in the bin. Especially Euro 1c & 2C coins...when are they EVER useful? I think I've used them about twice since 2001.

    Lowest denomination should be 5c.

i.e. if you want to buy a loaf of bread it should be €15.95 and not €15.99.*

prices accurate as of 3.47am 25th January 2009

Would have to agree with you there. 1 and 2 cent coins are useless and too fiddly. Don't some countries only have 5cent as their lowest denomination?

Australia for one. If you meant within the eurozone then I think I remember hearing Finland and Holland don't have them but I can't be arsed to look it up. I've never been to either country though.

  • I can't believe people throw away money  Even if it's 1 or 2 c, it's still money. I'd pick any amount up if it wasn't inconvenient (landed in dog turd or a puddle or the road).

i keep coppers in separate tubs on my shelf. so if i see easily available cash on the ground it'll be pocketed and thrown in the rest

Nonsense, lock your knees tight, bend over, take a gulp of air and don't be afraid to give it plenty of back. It's ghey otherwise.

But no, I wouldn't pick up 5 cent. Let the tramps have it. It's my justifcation for never giving them real money.

Dumping coppers in the bin keeps people in jobs, saving coins in a jar keeps jobs... mad isn't it?

I pick it up sometimes, other times I won't. It depends how far it falls from me, if there are many people around etc etc.

I bought something from a shop the other day, it cost 19.99, I payed with a 20 euro note. I didn't get my 1c change back. I nearly asked for it out of principle... bit stingy and sneaky of the shop, eh?

The first 20 were funny but now you just sound like that scene from Austin Powers. "Not a good time to lose one's head" "He'll never be the head of a major corporation" :P

I bought some things for my lunch in a shop and the woman said "would you like a bag" to which I replied "no, i can manage".

I checked my receipt and she charged me 22cent for a bag.

I went back in and asked for my 22.cent back and then put it in the charity box. Cheeky b*tch!

How about a €2 coin falls into the jacks bowl...would anyone fish it out?
Actually, say, in a public toilet.

Keep in mind it ain't going anywhere even after you flush.
