    Ok I'm a newbie here so i'm gonna ask one or two questions (Probably silly one's!) Is the spin open to anyone? And is it fast paced?? And what route you taking?

    My cast comes off on monday :D( unless I continue pulling the thread ... got a good bit off already ) -

    I will be back next week :)

    Yes
    alfalad wrote: »

    Not really. The group would tend to moderate its pace to the slower people. If people fall behind on the climbs, everyone tends to wait at the top.
    alfalad wrote: »

    No idea. We generally decide on the day. People often do as much as suits them, i.e. turning off when they've had enough.

    I'm an unfit cyclist. I usually ride on my own at maybe 26kph (average over say a 2 hour flattish ride), at the end of which I'm knackered, or a bit faster over an hour.

    On the two boards spins I've been on, I've found it tough to keep up, but never got left behind (or at least not for long). They're very nice about waiting.

    Right now I'm recovering from a few weeks off the bike caused by a crash, some minor surgery, a bad bout of flu, and being scared of ice, so I'm not going out with the group until I'm fully recovered (not fair to hold people up even more).

    Dunno whether that helps.

    Be careful folks...
    Road Safety Weather Alert - Severe Winds & Heavy Rainfall
    The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has received a Weather Warning from Met Éireann advising of extremely windy and wet conditions across the country this weekend with strong gale force southerly winds likely.

    Southerly winds, later veering west, will reach up to 85 km/h with the highest gusts of up 140 km/h expected along exposed coasts and over high ground.

    Rainfall totals of 20 mm to 30 mm are possible over much of Connacht, West Munster and West Ulster, with totals of 15 mm to 20 mm elsewhere. Some flooding is likely. Very high seas (8 to 10 metres over the open sea), may cause additional flooding in exposed coastal areas.

    Further to Met Eireann's weather alert the RSA is warning road users to be extra alert and have issued the following advice:

    When driving in stormy conditions drivers are reminded that;

    · It takes longer to stop a vehicle on wet roads so slow down and allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front.

    · Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road

    · Control of a vehicle may be affected by strong cross winds. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds

    · Take special care when driving behind goods vehicles as they generate a considerable amount of spray which reduces your visibility

    · Allow extra space between you and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists

    · Use dipped headlights at all times

    · Check tyres to ensure minimum tread depth of 1.6mm and correct tyre pressure

    · After going through water, drive slowly with your foot on the brake pedal for a short distance - this helps to dry the brakes.

    · Monitor radio weather broadcasts while travelling

    Advice to Pedestrians & Cyclists;

    · Be seen. Wear bright clothing with reflective armbands or a reflective belt

    · Walk on a footpath, not in the street. Walk on the right hand side of the road, facing traffic if there are no footpaths

    · Take extra care when near traffic or crossing the road in extremely windy conditions as a sudden gust of wind could blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

    With added risks posed by wet or flooded roads the RSA has the following advice;

    · Sometimes roads can be closed due to their fragile state after wet weather or because they are blocked by flooding. Road users should always follow recommended routes and obey signs closing roads to traffic

    · Watch out for washed out roads, earth slides, broken water or sewer mains, loose or downed electrical wires, and fallen or falling objects

    · Be aware where rivers or streams may suddenly rise and flood, for example highway dips, bridge, and low areas

    · If the road ahead is flooded choose another route, do not attempt to drive over it. Flooded roads that appear shallow could be deeper than you think. It is easy to underestimate the power of fast moving water

    · If you are inside a vehicle and water is rising rapidly around you, abandon the vehicle immediately

    · If you have to leave your vehicle, be wary of strong currents and debris.

    Check the local and national weather forecasts or visit Met Eireann's website www.met.ie for updates.

    The weather yesterday said that the east might escape the bad weather in the morning but it'll be there in the afternoon. Winds would probably still be a bit mad, ted.

    Saw that too. Hopefully we'll be getting out early enough to avoid the worst.

    I made it to sally gap last sunday, do I get a medal? definitely wouldn't do it in a group with that amount of wind. It was a wobbly experience.

    The Apathy Awards you mean.

    Don't think you could get away wearing a helmet with those shades.

    I'm in town and it looks better than I thought it would be. Still, I'm taking no chances and wrapping up this morning.

    Leave your disc wheels at home folks. Probably not a great idea with the wind.

    I'm town and no ice and wind seems to have eased, can see across the south of the city and actually looks a nice morning, just saw sky news and looks like the worst of it will be this afternoon!

    Maybe I'm just bad at gauging wind speed. I'm thinking I might head out to dundrum and decide then.
