Ok so I live alone with my daughter, she goes to bed about 7 or 8 and for the rest of the night I don't actually talk.. obv cause I've no one to talk to. i'm just wondering do the rest of you loners go with out talking or do you find you talk to yourself?

If i'm alone and on boards i usually shout at all the idiots posting. Rather shout at the screen than get banned :)

Hm...Longest Ive gone is about 2 hours I think.

My old housemate wasn't one for talking and could sit in the sitting room for hours and not talk!

Thankfully now that Ive moved out that's been rectified!

i would leave work on friday and not speak at another person until monday when i went back into work :(:(:(

With nine people in the house there's rarely just me there, but if everyone else is gone for the weekend or if I'm pulling an all nighter, I usually resort to talking to myself in a couple of hours or less. I'm really aggressive as well, it's not nice. One time last week I thought there was nobody in the sitting room and I walked in saying "STOP FUCKING TALKING TO YOURSELF!" and scared my housemate, who wasn't talking to herself, but apologised anyway.

Aw :( This makes me very sad, pfb. I'd probably end up hanging out at the local shop and talking to the staff if i had to go that long. (which would in turn make me the local weirdo) :)

    A week or so.

I was home alone with the dog.

Talking to yourself or to a dog doesn't count right?

Ah you'd have to have a little conversation with yourself, or shout at the telly.

I went a couple of days without speaking to anybody but myself.

I don't really like talking to myself. He's a bit of an asshole and tends to make fun of my height. I'll show him.

    No you won't.

    :P

I also find myself mumbling to myself and not noticing.l

One thing I used to do, not reallly on the talk related scale now, was to play chess with myself. Won every time.

The usual : What the hell !
    : WTF !
    : Tell me I didn't just see that.

Anyway , it does no harm.:)

Shouting does a lot of harm actually.

    It's effectively a micro-organism holocaust!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 429 ✭✭Myxomatosis

    Micro-organism holocaust you say?

I think I killed part of my brain once, I got so angry and started shouting like a mad man. My vision went a little fuzzy and I saw black dots. Got really light headed and had to have a sit down to recover.

well, i lived by mylself and not in my home town.

so i would be chatting away to people during the week but then if i wasnt going out, why would i be speaking to people.

today, i finished work at 5.30pm and wont speak to anyone until 10am tomorrow morning when i get into work.

i love it - the joys of living alone peace and quiet and no one to interrupt me conversation in my head :D

yeah I dont mind it either, at first I used to hate it.. now people coming to visit me is a big inconvience, i'd rather be on my own

I wonder how long I could last like that, I live alone so I spend loads of time alone but I'm always on the phone, texting, on internet, watching tv. I'd say I'd go crazy if I was to turn off all forms of communication.

Not long. I always read posts on boards out loud.

  • Moderators Posts: 51,917 ✭✭✭✭Delirium

I live alone, so most days after work I don't talk. Today for example, I haven't talked since 6pm. Week days after work, I'd be more likely to not talk for long periods of time.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Housemate sort-of hates me, and may not talk to me for a few days if the humour takes her. I never shut up though.

The only time I haven't talked for an extended period is when I was either on a sponsored silence (which nobody believed I'd do) or when I used to do 12 hour shifts in a call centre for a well known company. After speaking to over 1,000 people in 12 hours you just don't want to talk to anyone for a while.

I sing along with the tv all the time, sing in the shower and generally don't shut up. Sure, I have odd periods of introspection, but who doesn't?

Yup, I'm definitely as annoying as it says on the tin.

I'll chat away to myself no bother, I tell myself what needs doing etc. Get petrol, put a wash on, defrost mince.........dum da dum.

If i'm ever cracking up i pop to the neighbours for a cuppa but there's usually plenty noise in my house.

Shouting at stupid people online always helps!!

Going to a Boards Beers on Friday. I just hope they have wifi in the pub otherwise I am up the creek. :-s

A few hours, my mind could wander off when I'm around someone.

Plus, I actually challenged myself one day in school to go without talking. Kind of hard when the teachers call on you so I had to make eye contact and shrug a lot.

oh that reminded me, round 3 of pubgolf, = must immitate a mute throughout entire time in pub. there's nothing like the face of a barman with 12 people standing at the bar pointing and raising their eye brows.
