Does Anyone Remember WinAmp (General File Sharing Conversation)

    WinAmp, LimeWire, Bear Share

Who remembers using these services back in the day before the Industry began going mad about this kind of thing. Back when Napster was free, back when File Sharing was something only teenagers with no money did....

And what is your view on File Sharing?

    This.

Also limewire and bearshare are just vectors for virii, spyware and other kinds of malware.

It's mostly illegal. Don't do it or discuss how to do it here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

I think you mean WinMX or something like that?

Whatever it was got shut down anyway.

I don't download stuff anymore really. If I ever have a song I like I download it from youtube

    rapidshare legal file-sharing ftw.

Somehow I doubt the majority of stuff being shared on rapidshare is legal.

I once received an email from somebody who said they knew me from BearShare. I had no idea who they were or what was going on.

I've lived too-sheltered an Internet life.

I was just about to post this. It was all Napster before you young 'uns started coming in with your Limewiring and your Bearsharing.

Unleash the power!!! Great little program and would never trust file sharing. Far too many ropey guys out there with a little knowledge and pretty invasive software. Keep your music original and your privacy safe. :P

    Winamp is for music,
    A great little tool
    Media player sucked like hell
And Bill Gates is a fool!

File share tools are full of crap
    Viruses seeped in galore
    I'd be lost without Rapidshare
Else downloads would be no more.

Winamp looks great. crashes a little bit though...apart from that it's cool! I was a fan of RealPlayer myself.

When you could look at the process list on Frink and see at least a dozen instances running. Classic times.

I remember when it was all ratio FTP. Over 56k modems. The horror. The horror.

I hate what winamp has become. Seems really really bloated compared to what it used to be. Then again I have the memory of tuna so I could be imagining a much smaller cleaner older version

SoulSeek would be the client I've found as good as Audiogalaxy. Not that I use that stuff, of course.

Aye. In my admittedly limited experience, I always found it to have the most decent range of music, like AG.

First came across winamp late 97 when i started working in a pc company.
Was amazed by the few songs on the pc as I'd never thought of this before.
Within about 2 weeks I discovered mp3.com and boom..I was hooked.
Remember about 3 years ago I discovered my old pc down in a tech's lab and lo and behold all the old songs were still on it.

    MediaMonkey is even more superior.

And the best in its day (during the height of Napster) was Scour. anyone else remember it?

I used to use WinAmp. I use Media Player Classic now. Neat and basic and none of the rubbish that comes with some of the other players. I am looking at you WMP.

I clearly remember it being great! When Kazza came out it was almost identical. Even Limewire now has a very similar interface to Scour back in 99/2000. Had more files then Napster at the time too as it wasn't just audio.
I've blocked out of my mind how long a file took to download though:D
