Join the club. Had to type with one hand due to a broken arm and only managed to get one of three questions done. I'm hoping that the personal circumstances form I filled out will get me over the pass mark.

Did you not get additional time along with that? Afaik you should have got extra time due to the limitation in question, maybe see if your entitled to it for the rest of the exams?

They called out one name for extra time, but it wasn't mine.

v0v. The rest of my exams are written, so I shouldn't have any more problems.

What's the story with mobile phones... are you allowed have them turned off in the hall? Or do you have to leave it in your bag in some room?

It's my first set of DIT exams and I don't really know if they'll be similar to UCD ones or not...

They have to be turned off and in your bag. They'll tell you all the rule before the exam starts anyway.

Its at the top of the room behind the examiners so no there is no way you can get at it during an exam.

is there a study area at wesley house ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 rice_crispy

No there is no study area, there are benches outside which are crammed with people smoking/talking so thats a no go area and they dont open the building until ten min before the exam!!!!

My advice is to arrive ten min before exam!!

    depends on the faculty.

i know that the school of computing give them out over the internet only (they'd kind of would want to too lol). i'm not sure on other faculties.

    anyways...

    two down, two to go.

today's exam can be summed up in one word: impossible.

i thought final year exams were meant to be easy :)

Engineering put them online and send them out. Online normally go up first. It will be after the exam board meetings though.

oh wow where do they get these invigilators from??? we were shoved in a room with two other classes (seeing as it's our final exams ya think we'd be given some sort of preferential treatment, but oh no!!!). oh yeah n thanks lads for waffling all the way out of the exam room at 11am when it was obvious we had to stay til 12.30  they hadn't counted right so two lads had to go to the office as there weren't enough tables. the invigilator kept asking if anyone needed to go to the toilet.... if i need to go can i let u know??? think it was because the exam 'hall' was split in two and they insisted on escorting us to the loo. if we're gonna cheat we're gonna do it in the cubicle.... you can't see in there n plus even if they hear paper you just flush it cos with no evidence there can be no charge, right?? ugh so annoying and so distracting

Just because your doing finals doesn't make you any better than another year doing an exam.

Come on now, if they were walking out of the exam waffling at 11 its gonna take them what? A minute and a half max? I doubt your going to bring yourself up to a first in less than two minutes.

They escort everyone to the loo in any exam hall/classroom you are in, in every college.

It's exam time. Everyone gets stressed. Deal with it.

My one and only exam is on Monday at 930... I hope by then the usual exam kinks will have been ironed out, by then...

In the past I have been given the wrong paper... and on countless occasions the invigilators stand at the door chatting... its not the old fogies its the younger ones who are getting board nearer the end of the exam time...

My Request this year is a simple one... since it will be my 10th time sitting exams within DIT... PLEASE BE QUITE.... exams are hard enough to get through with out interruptions...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭miss no stars

All in all, exams are going a lot better than I anticipated. Don't know how some of the papers will be marked but my own feeling is that I passed the 3 I've done so far. The papers so far have been fair without anything designed to catch you out which is nice :) Also have been lucky and had good invigilators for 2 out of 3 and the other one was okish, but left me waiting with my hand up for 5 minutes wanting paper (despite all my coughing, grumbling and waving - you could talk to the people around you if you wanted and they wouldn't notice ) and this was AFTER they were late starting but didn't cop the fact that although they started handing out papers bang on time, it took them ten minutes to do so!!!!

    Ah well, small complaints really.

3 down, 3 to go. Just hope I can keep the head down and keep studying.

Ok since all of this has happened you must write a letter to the exams office stating that this should not happen when it comes to exams. Get all students in your class to sign it and hand it in with a PC 1 form. Can you let your lecturer and tutor know of exactly what happened!! Students do not need extra stress before they sit important exams. This matter will be noted and taken into consdieration if needs be!!

Best of luck with the rest of them!

to orla and ass face - lovely people with kind and sincere comments.... of course i used grammar in my exam (kind of a bizarre question, didn't realise you graded people on the grammatical content of their postings....). also i'm guessing you're not in your final year so i won't start a war of words as it's kinda pointless with people who haven't given your opinion two seconds worth of thought. tracey - many thanks - but as usual people in college don't want to say anything or rock the boat so therefore useless invigilators who talk all through the exam are let continue on. that's how the system works unfortunately and i've got quite alot going on so don't have the time or energy to try and convince people that things only change once some action is taken.

    let me set this straight.

    1. I don't know about Ass_Face but orla is definitely in final year.

    2. To exam supervisors you're just a number, doesn't matter if your in 1/2/3/4 year your still just a number, you aren't going to get any preferential treatment. At this point i'd like to point out i'm a final year student as well.

    3. You thank Tracey yet you ignore her advice fill out PC 1 form anyway, ask your fellow students to sign it and hand it up, one signature (your own) is better than none. This is what's wrong with this country people are too afraid or just assume no one will back a cause so you's all suffer from your inaction. If half the people who complained about things on boards actually done something about it then this country would be well better off.

i totally agree with you, except on the point about ignoring tracey's advise. you are totally right that if everyone on boards who complained about things actually did something about it ireland would be in a better state. unfortunately as i said my class are not willing to 'get involved' as i have suggested some form of class complaint to them already (this was before tracey told me the steps of how to go about it). i was venting as i knew i wouldn't get any back-up from my class. and to orla, a fellow 4th year, i wish her the best in her final year and hope that she does not have to go through the same disruptions in her exams that we had to endure.

I actually had to leave an exam because i was about to faint because of the girl beside me raping her paper with tip ex.

Am I going to complain? No. Why? Because that girl was probably so stressed out that she felt she had to do it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭miss no stars

Orla, with all due respect the girl was doing her final exams! They ARE more important than other years exams!!! They should never have had to share with other exams, especially if they ended at different times.

So you couldn't control the pen tapping; that's beyond anything that DIT can control, however, their exam should not have been perforated with the invigilators asking if people needed to use the toilet and other exams talking as they were leaving. It's really not that difficult to say "Hey, let's timetable the final years first and then fit other years around that!". Seriously Orla, those exams really count for those people.

I'm doing my masters, and we were in with a few other classes too. To be honest, the minor disruption when other people leave earlier than you isn't realistically gonna make a huge difference to how well you do...as someone pointed out, it's a minute or two max!
I do agree that the invigilators can be quite annoying though, there was a miatake on one of our papers which they figured out with half an hour to go, and instead of just announcing it they went around and told each person individually...took about 10 minutes, what a waste of time!

Yeah but you shouldn't be belittling someone for giving out about something that should never have happened. It shouldn't have happened and priority should have been given to their class ahead of other years. If she feels her exam was effected by the disruption, who on earth are you to dispute this?

She is no different to anyone else doing an exam. Each years exams are just as important.

If she feels she was effected she should fill out the PC1 form as has been suggested to her but she has already said she won't.

I'm not belittling her. What good is it coming on here a moaning about it if shes not willing to actually do anything about it?

wow orla, have i done something to morally offend you? i explained i was ranting due to the frustration i feel over the whole situation, that includes the actual event and the fact that i'm not able to bring the situation forward. it is not because i don't want to, as you posted, it is because of other issues, which i think i've explained previously. i have wished you the best of luck with your exam results. is there something else i can do for you? shall we just agree to disagree on this point?

I think ranting here is acceptable given the stressfull circumstances, and its better than choking tutors as I believe there is some draconion law still in place :(
