    Howdy, just a few questions!

I was told today that bicep curls are crap for strenght and so are E-Z 21s, by a powerlifter. He told me just to use a straight barbell, which i did today and found it was a better workout. However anyone else have any more good excercises for bicep strenght? Or do you object to the fact that bicep curls are bad?

Shrugs- To roll or not to roll? Well i was told that when i'm doing shrugs i should just do a straight up, straight down motion as opposed to rolling my shoulders. Anyone have an opinon on this?

Is Beef my friend? I often here people saying to wat chicken for protein, but never hear anyone telling someone to eat steak? Why is that?

Is bread, even wholemeal/grain bread bad for me? I'm trying to devolop lean muscle and am currently eating a diet of chicken, pasta and rice with some veggies thrown in. And every day i have a wholegrain roll with chicken and cheese..

Potatoes? Same questions as above really :D

I know i've got more questions but they seem to be hiding under a rock...

    Cheers, Wolf

Why do you want bicep strength? Unless your breakfast is extremely heavy :D

Biceps are a useless muscle in the greater scheme of power building, they act as a secondary muscle in compound movements, which you need in order to build strength.
But the girls love big arms*, so I'd say thats your motive ;)

I would not agree that any of the above is crap for strength, some may be better for shifting more weight but it is the bicep you are trying to work, not your legs, back and stomach etcetera.

Shrugs- To roll or not to roll? Well i was told that when i'm doing shrugs i should just do a straight up, straight down motion as opposed to rolling my shoulders. Anyone have an opinon on this?

Straight up and down in my opinion

It is not your enemy - it has higher calories than chicken so may become a factor if you are watching calories plus it is more expensive than chicken so not as affordable on a daily basis

No, it just depends on your goals but bread is fine

Not at all - however I personally cannot eat spuds without a lot of butter which makes them taste great but is a tad heavy in cals!:)

For the curls, getting stronger bicep will not really have any impact on overall strength, although getting more overall strength will get you stronger biceps, which is the way i tend to look at
but i dont see the logic as to why EZ curls would be no good, while straight bar curls would be
    as for 21's.....

rolling on shrugs will increase your risk of injury

beef, bread and spuds, i eat them all, ive recently dropped about 40g of protein intake, subbed it with an extra 40g carbs (mostly from bread), and i look better than ever

I'll not deny there is an element of that thrown in lol.

Thanks Guvnor. In reply to your answer of my first question, I was told that biceps curls was completely for shaping your biceps, not building any strength or size. This guys told me them up in size first then go back to curls and i was just wondering if anyone had good excersises for bicep strength.
