Does anybody here remember when MTV played actual music and none of the bull**** we have today:confused:

My younger siblings are somewhat obsessed with bull**** like "The Hills"
and "Next" among other ****e. I am only 19 ffs and I still remember when MTV actually played music/beavis and butthead.
Reality TV seems to have taken over.

    What happened:(

I still have nightmares about that shambolic movie:pac:

MTV Dictates what's cool new instead of reporting on it.

    Where you been man!

I'd be surprised if they don't own the contracts on half the muppets they are trying to promote as celebs. Ashlee Simpson for example, a more talentless hack whored to the masses there has never been.

I remember an American cousin coming over, seeing our MTV and going "Wow, it plays music?"

I couldn't understand what he meant, how could Music television not play music?

    Now I understand.

More money in reality TV. Americans don't appreciate art (like music) and prefer to watch attractive assholes be assholes in their living room. MTV's defense is that it's Music Television (ie. television based around music) but I don't see what 4 stuck up Beverly Hills whores have to do with music...Maybe someone wrote a song slagging them off...

Will ye shut up, theres loads of music channels available and 99% of whats on them is terrible.

"wow, that girl looks like a serial killer!"

I wouldn't care if they played yodeling all day as lon as they had Emma Griffith on there all day. Mmm

I think it's because when the Beverly Hills whores are going through their latest drama, there's usually some emo band playing in the background.

I'm liking MTVNHD at the moment, they don't seem to show ads, and during the day it's just music videos without text-in competitions all over the screen.

MTV has long become a general entertainment channel, there's plenty of other channels that show music videos so I don't get why people complain so much.

Myself, I watch those other channels if I want to see music videos, and watch MTB or VH1 when I want to see some trash like I Love New York!

MTV sucks ass. Kerrang and Scuzz are **** too, all they play is emo and bore metal, though sometimes a good band comes on. The Vault and VH1-2 play some good tunes every so often. That station rock world or whatever its called is sometimes good for discovering new bands, Kylesa being one example. I remember when it used to be the musicians channel 3 1/2 years back.

Bring back early nineties MTV, twas fantastic!!

Could slap it on at any stage throughout the day for some classic REM, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Crash Test Dummies or similar. Classic tunes one and all!

These days, if I happen to stumble on to MTV, I shed a tear for humanity. What have we become when such shows draw in MILLIONS of viewers every day? :(

but that's because that music was in the charts those days.

if mtv went back to playing music all we'd get would be snow patrol, leona lewis, kings of leon, random x factor winner #6435 and a lot of other crap crap music.

Quite true but we wouldn't be bombarded by idiotic shows that make it socially acceptable to end your sentences with "...ye know like!!" and "...talk to the hand!!!".

I know Beavis and Butthead wasn't the most intellectually stimulating show in the world (actually gave us a window into what our youth have developed into) but at least it had its place i.e. was only shown after the watershed in the early days. Plus at least there was some content to it - it was a show written and performed by a genius (Mike Judge) laughing at how a small percentage of youth were idiots.

Now, thanks in part to MTV content, the idiots are no longer the minority. Its just gone a bit too far if you ask me.

The transition from MTV Europe to the different versions for different markets is what ****ed the whole thing up. MTV UK and Ireland is a disaster. All the music was moved to the other channels MTV 2, Base and Dance which initially was a good thing but they are all muck now aswell. Even VH1 is gone to ****. There was hope when VH2 was launched but then that was rebranded MTV Flux which was bollocks and that has since changed to MTV One +1

End result use your mp3 player or internet radio to listen to music,

MTV can do whatever the **** they want. They made money off playing music and now they have gone down other avenues.

    Get Over IT!

When I'm flicking through the "music" channels, it goes something like this:

    "reality" sh1t
    Pimp my mofo
    Ads
    Ads
    sh1t music
    Ads
    Ads
    Ads
    more sh1t music
    Ads
    Ads
Not a bad tune for its day
    Ads
    Ads
    even more sh1t music

    :(

The best show MTV had was Brand:New with Zane Lowe. That was top quality viewing.

Of course, they evened things up with the crock of shite that was The Lick with that prick Trevor Nelson. God he was annoying.

Although if you set up your vcr for the crazy time slot its on 120Minutes still rocks.... and the chillout zone still gets repeated every now and then...

Caught some of that program My Sweet 16 and nearly had to spend a week washing my eyeballs ... holy ****, I knew kids were bad but that's insane

I used to always watch MTV, then I got the internet and suddenly there was no need. YouTube had music videos, there were more interesting news/interviews and less annoying scottish presenters (sorry, Edith Bowman)

all the MTV channels are pretty terrible now, five mins of (usually rubbish) music then about ten mins of ads. or else hours and hours of my sweet 16 or the hills.

Have they forgotten what the M stands for?

    Empty.V more like it.

More to the point Nightshift on channel 6 is being cancelled. Now what am I going to watch when I come home late and feel like a bit of telly? Where else will I find good music and an atractive host with a sexy voice?

It obviously has its audience. It isn't aimed at music fans like us. No point complaining about it. If people want to immerse their grey matter in hours of non-stop teenage melodrama reality television then that's their choice.

    Even if it is retarded.

The only thing worth watching on MTV is South Park. Any MTV made reality TV show is usually vomit inducing and should be avoided.

Although MTV2 does seem to have some music shows. I saw a Foo Fighters favourite videos show the other night which was a nice change from "The Hills" or "My sweet 16". (By the way the people who feature in those shows should be shot.)

Yesterday there was a reality show on. From what I could gather it was a bunch of stupid young rich hicks driving $50000 SUV's trying to find somewhere to have lunch.

    Quality.
