    Forecast looks reasonably good:

    Tonight

Cold, dry and blustery tonight. Temperatures will fall below zero for a time early in the night over parts of Leinster and Ulster then will rise generally by morning to between 5 and 9 degrees in the continuing strengthening wind.

    Tomorrow

The weekend will be very windy and much milder than recently with no frost. Overall it will be cloudy with all areas getting some heavy rain at times.

So how about it then? Luas Bridge say EDIT: 9am to allow any residual frost to burn off? Wouldn't mind attempting a Jan 100 if possible, not sure whether or not I'll achieve it, been off the bike all over xmas, but sure what the hell, give it a go... Need to be home by around 4 though.

I'll probably go out earlier and come back to Dundrum and join you there for a bit.

Is there a B cycle for Freds?

    If not, anyone interested?

If we head out at 9 or so then we can get 100 in by 14:00, easily. Would that suit others better? I'm easy enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,676 ✭✭✭Gavin

I'd prefer that alright. Could even stop in laragh for tucker

Although glacial serving lady will slow us down

    9 suits me too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

Ok, El Tonto is happy with 9 too, so lets say 9am under the luas bridge, aiming to be home by 2ish, also aiming for a 100km (at least some ppl).

A determined to head on some boards spins this year (only 2 last yr).

DOnt want to be a splitter, but 9 dont suit. (too many small babies in the house need organising before I head out).
Anyway, if anyone would fancy a later start (say 10.30/11) that would really suit me.
Fancy heading up the hills regardless of weather. Pace will be slow, because I am slow.
Just leave name for the late spinners and I will hook up at Dundrum or Lambs Cross.

Question; how do figure rain and gusts of 88km qualify as being a reasonably good forecast?? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

Warm and no frost = good in my eyes these days.

You can cycle in wind and rain. Can't with ice.

Just think of it as a hill. And just like for every uphill there's a down, for every headwind there's a tailwind - which may or not change direction and/or strength :)

I know someone who broke their arse bone on a work night out!! Pretty painful by all accounts! And she was the butt of all office jokes for months! !

But point taken!! Maybe I should give the wind another chance!

I am also in. I like the sound of 100 and I like the sound of slow.

From met.ie: "gale force southerly winds"

Bring on the pain! Just to clarify, its 9:30 and not 9:00 am (09:30:00_??)

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

I'll try and slip across to meet you guys for the morning....... I hope its cold though cause then we won't want to stop as often :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

I'm still contemplating this. I have a rugby match at 2pm, but I'll be subbing so don't mind doing a few KM, but definitely nowhere near 100. Maybe an out and back spin for me.

Secondly, could I take my Bowery, or is geared advised?

I'll be heading from beside the Artane roundabout so northsiders PM me if doing the spin across & want to meetup.

I'd a hazard a guess that it will be fairly relaxed. Are you gonna go sally gap and back?

It's not a case of wanting to stop, it's a case of needing to stop ! (for me)

park in one of the housing estates, there's one just up the hill from the bridge opposite the church., if its sally gap there's still a bit of ice on the northern approach road as of today, but its passable fortunately no icy corners

I hope you're not one of the feckers that parks in front of my house so any guests can't park !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,676 ✭✭✭Gavin

I'm just being snotty, it's a public road, anyone is free to park there ! I don't think there are actually any free car parks.. unless you park up at Lambs cross maybe?

I think I mentioned this before, but UCD: free parking, loads of spaces, nice and secure and no snotty Verbs letting air out of tyres or bending wipers (I kid!).

Plus, its a 10 minute cycle from dundrum with a nice short and steep section leading up to mount anville, perfect warm up in the morning.

watch out they have randomly placed pay and display areas in the car parks with out too much warning, clamp on this!
