I thought it was really bad tonite, a lot of the jokes bombed and Craig Doyle was trying too hard, just not funny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,677 ✭✭✭ronnie3585

Thought it was pants. Craig Doyle came off as a bit of a tit. IMO The Panel has really gone down hill since last year.

its been pants since dara left. waste of time now. not funny atal now.
maxwell is the only funny one on it anymore.

That Padraic Harrington bit at the end was excruciating, not funny at all (well, they were talking about golf I suppose).

Agree mostly with this apart from A.Maxwell being funny.

ah come on i love his rants. would like to see ed byrne back aswell.
breandan o'conor would be the perfect host right now, or just bring back dont feed the gondolas with dara of course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 117 ✭✭Jokesetal

The current format is dire and most episodes have been poor, with the exception of Grainne Seoige of course.:D
Maxwell can ruin the show IMO as he rattles on and on with a poor punch line to finish off with (or maybe none at all). It usually starts off with "when I was growing up.....blah, blah, blah"
It's now a perfect oppurtunity for some new Talent to take it over as anchor, look what it did for Dara O'Briain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 139 ✭✭BIRDCAGE1

The whole show was sh*te, who was that guy sitting beside maxwell anyway, I could of done a better job then that.

bring back the girlies we need a bit of eye candy aswell..........

Says it all really when the most exciting part of this weeks episode was a boring sod doing an impression of another boring sod

Maybe create a "The Panel is ****e nowadays" sticky? ;)

i can't stand when Colin Murphy makes them stupid 'uuughhh' 'weeehhhh' noises-which seem to be his main contribution.
this time last year i was a big fan of Maxwells. Up to the first break, when I turned over, it seemed like he'd say something funny and the director would be rolling his arm as if to say 'keep talking, we really need some filler' and he'd just regurgitate the last thing that got a laugh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭djsupreme

I have to agree - The Panel is dead and buried. I think the rotating presenters idea was a complete disaster - we don't have enough talent in the country. IMO Neil Delamere did a pretty ok job presenting when he was sharing the role with Murphy last year.

I particularly thought the first few minutes of jokes about Waterford Crystal were in really poor taste. There's hundreds of people worrried about their jobs - and this show aired the day 1,900 people lost their jobs in Limerick. I won't be watching again.

The "Panel is sh1t" threads aren't what they used to be.

God almighty. So is Craig Doyle the new permanent presenter ? The show needs a straight man, but preferably a FUNNY straight man, not just some schmo who just invites all his mates on for free publicity.

I mean really, some excrutiatingly long amazingly dull conversation about personal training, by some guy who's touted as the 'trainer to the stars' ... -"Who's the most famous person you've ever trained"
    -"I can't say, its confidential"

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

We turned off half way through the even more astonishingly boring conversation about golf. GOLF. GOLF. On a "satirical topical affairs show", the presenter, the guest, and the panel themselves had a long, serious conversation about GOLF.

    God almighty indeed ...

I lived a couple of doors away from this gobsh1te when he was growing up. Believe me; there was nothing funny about this idiot. Not very well liked on the road tbh.

I thought Craig Doyle was woeful. He keeps trying to be funny cracking really bad jokes and forcing his face into a "don't you know I'm joking expression".
And what's with relying on all these clips from the internet? Are they just running out of jokes and need cues. What next Christmas Crackers?

Andrew Maxwell is a class act though. I love the way his jokes have an air of strange weirdness in them as he babbles off on these imaginative tangents. I loved his "sure people moved to Meath" line last night. Genius.

I think there's a Northsider feel to all his gags as it seems people from various other parts don't get his humour at all.

Hasn't been the same since the talentless unfunny Fiona Looney was kicked off. Complaints about the show dropped 50% that day. I miss her bloated ass.

they shud just put some topics into a hat and draw them and just go with it instead of this fake(oh weve been talkin all day about this in the office muck). think they did it one time when dara was there.

The show has been struggling since Dara quit hosting it.
The youtube clips, I mean I can look at them myself.
What about getting John Bowman to present it, could you imagine that?

Honestly, he is about as Northside as Senator David Norris.
The chap never went to school (either primary or secondary) in Kilbarrack.
He barely spent his time there. In fact I recall him slagging off the place when we were early teens.
Now he's living off this perception that he's a seasoned Kilbarrack'er' to give a more authentic feel to his jokes.
He's a fraud.... pure and simple.

He went to Mount Temple which is on the Northside. I suppose he's posh Northside (or posh Killbarrick). Which I suppose is different to posh Southside :-)

He's lives on the fact he's a messed up sense of humour, no obvious punchlines just general wackiness. The line about Meath last night was the funniest thing I've heard from any Irish comedian in years.

Because it's true, but so stupid and irrelevant but he said as if it was serious issue and important.

I see they have dropped the token female.

What is with them showing poor quality video clips, now I don't mean youtube necessarily but when they show actual tv footage it is all in the degraded pixellated format. What gives?

The token female was very cringy, especially the pretty ones that used to just sit there and smile. A bit demeaning even if it was easy on the eye.

I saw that recently on Podge and Rodge too - footage of Big Brother obviously recorded from youtube. Either they are too lazy to ring Channel Four and ask for footage, or they won't pay whatever fee is required. (Although I'm sure the fee would be for usage of the clip, not obtaining it - and so, I'm wondering if Channel Four or whoever would still have some comeback if they play it from youtube.)

Though Craig Doyle was woeful last night, that fitness guy was just a bit odd.

Doyle also seemed to ghey it up a notch or 5 when Shane O' Donoghue was present, very odd.

Maxwell was rubbish as usual. Mock the Week/reruns of HIGNFY for the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 388 ✭✭Scoobydoobydoo

Never enjoyed it when Dara O Briain wasn't on it, so now I don't bother anymore. The only remaining likeable person was Neil Delamere, in my opinion, but I couldn't suffer an entire show just for him.
I prefer to catch up on Mock The Week and QI on Dave, far more entertaining!

It would an intersting question to ask over on the Legal Discussion forum.

Strangely enough, I didn't think it was that bad the last couple of weeks.

Poor. George Hamilton. However. Couldn't get a. Sentence out. Without a number of. Pauses.

I wouldn't be surprised if people have switched off. They've gone from a hour long programme with 3 guests, to ~40 minutes with only 1. RTÉ musn't want to pay too much for it.

No token female for the last few weeks and only 1 guest. I think it has actually improved. George was terrible though last night.

I'm the same. I always used to look forward to it, now I can't stand it, though I do still watch it. Not sure why.

Is it just me or are they not allowed to swear properly anymore since the move to RTE1? It's all 'feck' this and 'shíte' that. They never used to speak like that in the Dara o'Briain days. They sound like something out of Father Ted.

Crap wasn't he? I was in the audience for it and i have to say i was a bit disappointed in it. They were rabbiting away for 2 hrs 45 mins and 2 hours of that had to be cut out to make the tv programme. There was a couple of funny bits that weren't suitable for TV but most of the stuff that was cut was just sh***e. TBH i was glad to go when it was over!
