Recommend Image Gym in Swords. Not expensive (no joining fee, pay a flat yearly or half year fee, or do a pay per week version) and really good people in it.

There are a few "gyms" like Curves where everyone is so busy being social that you don't actually get a proper workout.

I second Image. Awesome people and atmosphere, compared to the likes of Northwood.

Plus I'm there, so thats +1 point :D

I'm in total fatness and on the M'hide road. I like it as it's close by and pretty big and it's never busy the times I go - I'd imagine things like this to be more of a factor as to why you'd go to a specific gym. I know it doesn't exactly answer your question but are there gyms where you can actually meet people? I wouldn't have thought so myself....

Yeah Curves, ever see that ad?! None of the aul' bints look the least bit tired during their 'workout'.

I once joined Curves for a short time (free month with a packet of Splenda) and after the first couple of days, found the workouts very boring, but heard so much about everyone else's personal life, it was fascinating.....

There are a lot of people who lose a lot of weight there. What suits some doesn't have to suit everyone. Curves serves it's purpose and does well by doing so. I worked there for a few months when I was in college and it gave me decentish experience working in the fitness industry(as much as you can call curves that, but in a sense that I was doing the measurements and that other sort of general stuff you don't learn at college as well as teaching classes, which technically curves aren't meant to do but our's did. Got valuable(ish) experience working in the industry while studying for my fitness qualifications when no one else on my course was able to get experience like that)

There's a lot of people on here who just slag curves off, they don't claim to be a gym...they claim to be a 'fitness and weight loss centre' they have a target market which is completely different to the target market that other gyms have, they do well for a reason, because their target market go to them in their droves. Many members when I worked there left for other gyms...crunch, carlisle etc and then ended up coming back.

I really don't get the animosity towards curves, it serves its purpose. I don't agree with the whole curves thing either and couldn't imagine doing one workout let alone staying for years but it clearly works for MANY people.

Agree that Curves serves a purpose, it's ideal for the sort of women who are unfit and wouldn't otherwise go to a gym. What I object to is the price they charge for what is really very basic facilities. The one I went to barely had a changing room, no shower or washing facilities and was very small. But it cost more than many proper gyms with heavy duty lifting and cardio equipment, as well as hot showers.

I'd recommend Slender Health in Raheny, its a small enough gym but it has enough equipment and a great atmosphere. There's always social nights out and the staff are great craic. Call in and get a free weeks trial and see what you think of it, its right beside the DART station so it's pretty handy aswell.

edit:Its also 349 for the year, I think they do 6 monthly and 3 monthly deals aswell..

Thanks Dampsponge - can you pay monthly and what are the opening hours? This sounds really good.

Hi Vinny, I don't think you can pay monthly but you can pay the yearly fee in 3 installments, so its only around 100 quid for the 1st three months then you don't worry about it for the year.

    The opening times are :

    6.30am - 10.00pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday
    6.30am - 10.30pm Tuesday & Thursday
    7am - 7pm Saturday
    8am - 6pm Sunday

Give it a try, you'll get to know a good few people through it.
