Has already gotten 5/5 from both the US and German official PS magazines. While they may be the official PS magazines, their scores do coincide with positive previews (see Eurogamer) and the great feedback from the beta.

There is also a gameplay video on Eurogamer, though the person playing it is ****.

All in all, I'm getting pretty excited about this game now!!

I've been following this for a while now. It sounds like its going to be a more tactical shooter, compared to, say, Resistance 2. This should make the online tense and exciting.

Been waiting for this game for months. I've been following the development on the official site and there is some great feedback from the beta there (in between the billion posts looking for beta keys)

Sounds like a chunky shooter and its supposed to look amazing, with most of the effects from the single player campaign working seamlessly in multiplayer too.

Tbh i'm completely sold on the game already, couldn't give 2 *whistles* if it only get's 6/10 from IGN.

OH. MY. GAWD. Such unrivalled beauty!

    It's a trailer. Watch it.

I was already watching this game closely, but MY GAWD! I agree, no bad review will change my mind on this game, but there will be no bad reviews.

    Amazing.

That has to be one of the coolest trailers I have seen!!!

What did the OPMs give Resistance 2? My fav mag was disappointed with it and only gave it 80%.

Agreed, whilst not that important for me I have friends that really need split-screen as they don't really play multiplayer online.

Guerrilla Games haven't revealed everything about the game yet, are we sure there won't be split screen multiplayer, or even co-op multiplayer? Last I heard one of the developers said that they 'couldn't comment yet' or something like that.

Does this game support M&K controls, just find the PS controller very uncomfortable for FPS games.

Positive. If you watch the Dev walkthroughs and tech demos on youtube one of them says it came down to limited resources forcing them to choose between split-screen co-op or MP. They wisely chose MP.

That would be pretty crappy if it did. Someone with M&K would just clean up easily.

A new Killzone 2 vid - here's a gameplay vid of some guy playing around in a tank. It's YouTube HD as well so you can get a better feel for the game.

At the moment I've heard that the Killzone 2 demo will be made available February 5th. (Could be the 12th though?) Can't wait :D

There's a rumour doing the rounds now that one of the developers at CES said a patch will be coming that adds online co-op.

What I find quite stupid is the fact that to get the demo in America, you have to pre-order, with Gamestop. But over here, its free...

...but Americans could simply set up a European account and get it from our store (first time for everything!)

Yeah, it's with GameStop I think. GameStop always do something like that with big game releases

Is the game set in space or something?

Gravity doesn't seem to apply in that trailer.

    Pretty though.

We played it over in Leipzig earlier in 2008 and while it was a reasonably early build it really was excellent to the point that me (not the worlds biggest playstation lover by any means) reckons this is going to be my own game of the year, will absolutely blow the pants off resistance.

It's set on the Helghan homeworld, but I think it just looks weird because it's in slow motion in parts and the death animations are kind of exaggerated. The somewhat over the top nature of it all is one of the things that appeals to me :D

IMO better graphics than crysis. Hopefully it will live up to all the hype and maybe even surpass our expectations.

Thats a rather bold statement, seeing as Crysis is set in a massive open environment and Killzone 2 looks to take place in a more cyberpunky near future warzone with lots of enclosed streets and hallways. But you are entitled to your opinion.

I have been anticipating this game now since the first "in game ;)" trailer at E3 06(05?) and its looking really impressive. Im sure the single player will blow resistance 2 out of the water completley, but multiplayer... we will have to wait and see.

I can't see how this game will live up to the hype its generating. It could still be good, but when hype levels reach a certain point no game can live up to them. All the hype seems to be coming from the graphics. The trailers for the game are very well made, but making games look good in trailers is not to difficult a task. Asides from that Killzone was an average game so the developers track record is hardly fantastic. In fairness the PSP game was good though but then again it wasn't an FPS.

From the several videos I have seen I'm quite impressed with the graphics but the gameplay looks like your typical linear-corrider fps. There does not seem to be much we have not seen in other FPS's. Yes there is shiney graphics and impressive physics but those alone don't make games good. We will have to wait and see what the gameplay, A.I. and storyline is like. Those are things you can only judge once you have played the game and not from pre-release videos.

Its got good word of mouth from the multiplayer beta, but I fear that some of that maybe to do with fanboys wanting to brag about the game and claim its a Gear Of War or Halo killer or the game that finally proves the superiority of the PS3 hardware over the Xbox 360.

As for it having better graphics than Crysis. I think thats just wishful thinking. You could argue better art direction perhaps but technically Crysis is well beyond Killzone 2.

The cover system is new. Rainbow Six Vegas tried to do it, but they had to resort to third-person for it. From the descriptions I have read, it also seems to be gearing itself as a more tactical, strategy-oriented shooter, which will definitely shake things up in comparison to Resistance or Halo.

Again, as I have not played it myself I can only go on others experience but apparently the AI, both of your enemies and squad, are one of the highlights of the game. I think it was on Eurogamer where they mentioned this.

While I cannot agree that the graphics are better than Crysis, I do think they are the most impressive visuals I have seen of any home console game.

This is quite a good interview about the game

I like part where the game mode changes seamlessly in Multiplayer without having to go back to the lobby (Resistance 2 had something similar I believe).

And yes, this game is hugely hyped, but I feel must of this is coming from beta players and previews. I mean considering the hype machine that MS used for Halo or Rockstar for GTAIV, I think Sony have been somewhat quiet about one of (if not) the biggest exclusive PS3 game to be released this year. Maybe they are just letting the game do the talking, with beta players, previews and reviews spreading the word...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

It has been confirmed that there will be no co-op mode. /weeps

Will definitely pick this one up but probably not for a few months down the line (I'm still trying to get through my Christmas bundle of games).

With regards to the hype factor, I think it has died down immensly over the last couple of years. It wouldn't suprise me if this wasn't a big seller. Let's face it, the hype was at its maximum four years ago when they revealed it at E3 05. There's very few games that can maintain that kind of momentum for so long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Zatoichi

There was no co-op in CoD:MW, there was no revolutionary/impressive AI in CoD:MW. It was a linear FPS. Yet it's a AAA game and you'd be hard pressed to find any FPS fan who didn't like it. If Killzone2 was a multi-platform game 90% of the pre-release criticism would disappear into the ether instantly.

The internets is giving GamesRadar a piece of their mind after there latest article on Killzone 2, comparing it to the likes of Gears 2 and R2.

I don't visit the site, cause quite frankly it is terrible imo, but they do seem to be rather tough on Killzone 2, as this poster demonstrates.

All in all, quite a funny read i thought :)

I've been lurking in that thread for a while now :D The gifs they have are amazing. Lot's of good impressions from people that have high stadards. They also make great points about GamesRadar's style of writing. I wonder what things would be like if this game was multi-plat?

I enjoy getting excited over games like Killzone 2, although I know a lot of people hate hyping games because they can end up getting burned.

I actually like that Sony aren't hyping the game too much, they're letting the game speak for itself pretty much. I'm sure there'll be a marketing push closer to release. I doubt we'll see as many ads as LittleBIGPlanet had though.

Whatever about K2, I disagree about Sony and LBP.
There were virtually no tv ads when it was released and the ad campaign only really took shape over xmas.

I think Eurogamer has an editorial that references this kind of gimmick i.e. intentionally posting something controversial you know will get a lot of page hits. I used to read Gamesradar until they went international and the site quickly turned to crap.

There is a somewhat similar video of two 1up guys playing "good cop bad cop" after play-testing KZ2. The telling thing is almost all of the "bad cops" negatives were glaring positives from my point of view. Eurogamer compared it to the original Rainbow Six game which is one of my all time favourites but not a series that the mainstream really bought into. So while from what I've seen KZ2 hits all the right boxes for me I don't think it will be a massive seller.

    9/10 from UK OPM.

My favourite qoute would have to be:
The gameplay is cruel and uncompromising, but also forceful and empowering. You don't finish levels, you survive them.

    Can't wait!!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

    sounds promising too. :)

from MEGamers (altho the site was down when I just tried the link)
Killzone 2’s secret ingredient is the fluidity in gameplay that we have come to enjoy more than its graphical prowess or jaw-dropping visuals. And that’s what games have always been about... We're surprised to see Killzone 2 blows our expectations out of the water with a memorable SP campaign and a stellar MP component. To put it short, this game makes "Gears of War 2" look like a high school attempt at gaming and that is a HUGE compliment!

    hmm, looking good.

did anyone notice that xbox fanboi's have poisoned the user vote on metacritic giving it a 6.3/10. tools.

    Still down :(

That is some compliment as well. Despite the bugs and balancing issues online, Gears of War 2 has to be one of my favourite games of all time.

That sort of thing has been happening on metacritic for some time now. The same happened for LBP, Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 as well I believe. Sad really...

In a cupboard. Forgot I had the collectors edition. The DVD (only works on Playstations - not a standard DVD) has the soundtrack and some making-of stuff on it. The dogtags I took from xtra-vision when I worked there a few years ago. Good stuff!

interesting that the Official Playstation magazine only gave it 90%, but then made a quote like this...
    Playstation Official Magazine UK
Visually it's so far ahead of anything else out there it shatters your expectations...This is a PS3 showing what it's truly capable of and delivering a landmark piece of explosive entertainment you can't afford to miss. [Feb 2009, p.88]

just grabbed that from the 3rd review posted on metacritic, but would be very interested to see the full article to see why it got 90%.

just out of curiosity, is anyone else wondering what a 64 player online battle is going to be like? :D

Aside from the fact 90% is a high score, it doesn't matter how graphically impressive the game is, that won't stop it being a generic futuristic FPS.
