Merit Numbers

Without opening can of worms what is lowest merit to be in with a chance from RC background.

And on another note do many turn down the job offer, especially based on the current threat on the PSNI especially to catholic officers.

I read that last year 16 serving officers were forced from their homes because of a direct terrorist threat.

I think a merit number in the mid 700s would be towards the cutoff point for RCs this is based on previous campaigns and percentages published by the policing board.
The threat is always gonna be there at some level, live your life or let others live it for you, thats my motto anyway!

Yeah could be upto 1000 the longer they drag it out the more people are likely to drop out, whats your number then?

Just over the 1000 and i mean just over not even by a handfull i sent vet forms of 4 weeks ago and had my medical last week. As i posted in the med section i put alot into this lost 5 stone even did alot of work for A/C but really ballsed it up. Now i have other worries with vetting its fair to say i had quite a colourful past in my youth all over 5 years ago now.

It was really funny i would be friendly with one of the police officers that used to torture me. When i told him i was applying he said it was the most sensible thing i had ever said LOL He then went on to say it takes people of all walks of life to make the police work, not just straight A students just out of uni. "They were in their bed by 9 o`clock week nights when you were out learning about the real world."

Sorry if nobody finds that funny but i do but i think he has a valid point.

You did indeed, and to be non-sarcastic, I don't know. Nor does anyone else. So sarcasm is about the only way of answering such a wild question? It's like the old 'how long is a piece of string' type scenario, we just don't know.

Why is it that sarcasm is like the country music of the humour department?

Fair enough but all you had to do was answer that in the first place to avoid confusion

What do you mean by tortured? thats a breach of your article 3 there!!

If you have got vetting sent off etc I would think you have a good chance at getting in. I wouldnt look into the numbers too much but if you are interested there are people getting in with numbers around 1100... depends on how many people they need etc

I was only jestin from the start mate. Like the PSNI, this thread also employs a 50/50 policy. 50% of helpful information and 50% of piss take (sometimes I overdo my allowance ;))

it all depends mate, there's a bloke up there who was over 1250 but i know another who didn' get on a previous campaign who was about 900

Thanks for the advice guys think i will just forget about numbers and just keep my fingers crossed for vetting. I have a firearms licence so i would say they check you out a bit for that.

They have it by the bucket! You have 2 choices in life, laugh or cry. I prefer the former. Only it's a bit less at the hotel as we're all middle-of-the-road people while we're there ;) No point being on report for the sake of a punch line :)

I think people need to realise that the drive to get more catholics applying is WORKING. So it stands to reason that each year catholics will need a lower merit placing than last year. I heard it mentioned that 30% of applicants this year were RC (heard that on the forum, apparantly a quote from the Cheif Con).

I don't mate. It's the reality of the situation. The more catholics apply, the better merit number they will need to get in. That's hardly controversial is it?

    Guys,

During an hour of boredom I decided to trawl the forum and get the merit numbers of those who have gotten the calls for December and February intakes. I hope those of you who are listed here don't feel too violated. I've seen loads of people who, like myself, are waiting and are regularly seen asking "whats your background and merit number??".

    So here it is...

    December Intake:

    CPN: Merit: 75 - 85
    Mc Nab: Merit: under 95
    Fifty50: Merit: 80-100
    Bobbin88: Merit: 88-110
    Inspector71: Merit 340-440 (RC)

    February Intake:

    Lolli-J: Merit: "Low 60's"
    LauraPeoples: Merit: 70's
    PB999: Merit: Under 100
    NumberC: Merit: "Below 400"
    OurSole: Merit: 400's
    PandaPants: Merit: 440's
    Morri: Merit: 400's

Again, sorry if anyone objects to being listed here. Let me know I'll edit or delete the post if anyone objects. Just thought it would help people who are waiting get an idea of where they are.

I didn't think you were Mori and tbh I'm not sure Lollipop is either.

MrFug, Why not add another section at the bottom:

'Not selected yet:' or similar and feel free to include me: Non-RC approx 105.

Oh and its a good idea of yours here cos I was trying to rememeber McNabb's last night cos I know he was similar to me and was trying to remember what his score was and which intake he got.

Think you should include whether the person is RC or Non-RC tho if known (oh u have on one) :)

    Merit 160-175

This is a great way for those of us still waiting, to figure out where abouts we stand in this whole thing. Only of course, if those aforementioned people don't feel "violated" :pac:

this is a good idea mrfug but i think background should be added to this as it is what makes all the difference when referencing your own number against those of the same background. It will give people a greater idea of whats going on. Even though no one really knows whats happening.

Good thread. Handy to keep track of the lucky few and also those who may or may not be in contention for later intakes.

Put me down for April or May (wishful thinking, I know). Merit number between 120 and 150, non RC (also passed vetting - wahey).

Honestly, much less than 400? There seems to be a massive spread of merit numbers getting in on each intake. What is keeping them with the vetting I wonder :(

NumberC's actually one of the last in from C13, not C14 like most of the rest of us. His merit number gives us some indication of what merit numbers could get in from this campaign.

The only thing that could potentially hold you up now is whether or not the appeals section will have forwarded your file to external appointments in time for the next round of calls.

Personally, I can't see there being a problem and I fully expect to see you getting the call for March.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 67 ✭✭BadCopGingerCop

I called yesterday and apparently they havent been OHW havent forwarded the files as yet. Would love to be starting in March, ideal really.

    Whats the latest with yourself?

Trying to sit back and relax while I wait on the call. It ain't workin'.

My merit number's 120-150 (non-RC) and I've passed everything including vetting.

Roll on the next round of calls so I can turn into a phone-staring wreck.

March isn't out of the question for you yet. There's at least another week before the calls go out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 67 ✭✭BadCopGingerCop

I know, the old sittin back and waitin trick doesnt seem to last too long. But it has to be done.

You holdin out for march then yourself?
