You want to know some advice that helps with studying?

    Just do it.

It may be painful, it may be boring, it may mean sacrificing other pleasures, but if you don't know the info, you won't get through the exam.

I had to get myself banned from Boards before I could make myself focus on books and notes, but once I got into a good run of hours I actually made some real progress.

Complaining about studying won't make it go away, but the sense of security from knowing you're well-prepared is the best thing to take into an exam-hall.

Once you study and see the results coming in you will continue do it, thats what I think. Just force yourself to work.

It's only cool when I do it though

    /edit

Seriously though, don't reference me on this. I got my first ever infraction today, I want my name kept low-profile for a while!

    Just reading isn't studying...

    read it
    write it down
    read it
    do an exam question

    This doesn't take long. I do it and I'm a straight D / occasional C
    student:D

Just realised your in colledge so the eam q prob won't apply but do some sort of q that's relevent

Previous years' exam papers are available in some colleges.

    Back away from the computer...:pac:

Seriously if you want to study, don't go near a tv or computer, you will just let the time slip by. If you want to have a break from studying, listen to music for a few minutes or go for a walk. But resist the urge to log into boards!

*logs out and attempts to cram for exam* :p

I did evening study for the Junior Cert as well, I ended getting really pissed and ended not going as much. I don't know I'll do for the Leaving, I gave permission to remove the laptop away from me...

I did after-school supervised study for the Junior and Leaving Certs.

In 5th and 6th Year, I spent more time sleeping and writing poetry than I spent doing my homework, never mind studying!

[disclaimer]I am me, you are you *wink* things that work for me, may not work for you, and vice versa. There is quite probably no perfect approach which gives perfect results no matter who the student is[/disclaimer]

Seriously guys, if you don't like studying (I don't), then learn the stuff in class. I have exams starting in about a week, and I don't give a crap, because I attended the majority of my lectures and I got it at the time. Stay awake and focused in class, 90% of job done. Seriously, I'm doing more preparation for a grind I'm giving on monday than for my own exams :) Far as I'm concerned, college comes back in february, holidays til then :)

Yes, there is often stuff to be done outside of class / lectures / whatever, just do it! Also, be interested. Preferably choose something you're interested in but always, be interested; makes everything so much easier!

It's true studying isn't much fun, but leaving an exam with no worries about failing is loads of fun :)

    • Don't study with friends
    • Find any past exam papers you can and try to answer as many questions from memory as possible
    • Turn off your mobile phone
    • Take regular breaks; every 45 minutes to an hour.
    • If you are too tired to study, then you should just leave it for a few hours. The more tired you are, the less that will go in
    • Don't go on Boards
    • As for during the exam - a good idea is to put your pen down for a minute on sporadic intervals.

When you get to University-it goes down the hill from there trust me :P

tbh being banned was horible! Like seriously, there were threads i wanted to post in and i just couldn't...

What got to me was the fear of failing and not graduating this year(i had to repeat this subject).

It's hard but you have to chose either boards or colleger :P
    Which is it gonna be?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 309 ✭✭pepsicokeacola

ah was thinking of doin business and a language in DIT not sure of the points, but computer science would appeal to me. was outisde google today and id say its fairly class to work there so something to get me in there maby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,398 ✭✭✭MIN2511

yeah google is great but its tough to get in, as far as i know you have to go through at least 3 interviews...

Are you interested in programming? I swear it can drain the bejesus out of you mentally and emotionally, Business and Language sounds interesting...

Have you considered BIS? Business Information Systems... Business and IT which IMO is the best way to go with the current economy.
