I live near the park and have decided to run there for the new year.

I was just wondering if anybody knows the distance from the main entrance gates in Parkgate street to the main entrance in Castleknock gates.

I just want to see and gadge how far I can run etc.

    Thanks all

Give Google Pedometer a try. I find it really helpful for mapping and measuring long distance runs.

mapmyrun.com is another great website for determining distances. It looks like 4.2 km for the full length of chesterfield avenue.

adrian, I've found a GPS HRM to be the most accurate method for measuring distance. The foot pod thingies are way off (10%) for me. I'm currently using the polar 305 and it's super.

    http://earth.google.com

Install, select ruler from the menu. You can measure a single line or multiple lines (path) from a couple of metres to the circumference of te earth if you want. Great tool.

Gate to gate isn't far off 5k. Each km is marked off by a post, so you can check your time for each km. Post this on the Athletics or Marathon forum on Sports and you might get one or two peoploe who have measured it. I used to run this before and IIRC from the roundabout by the zoo to the big roundabout with a kind of monument thing on it is 1.5miles and from that roundabout to the last crossroads (there's a miniroundabout there now) prior to the Castleknock gate was 0.9. Don't know how long is is from Parkgate entrance to first roundabout or last roundabout to Castleknock gate....
BTW garda HQ gate to main road junction (via back of zoo) is 2.2miles on road or 2.5miles on running trail in by wall. Running trail in by wall all the way around park (behind Ord Survey, through Furry Glen, past Chapelizod gate, along S-Bends etc) is 6.7miles.

I ran around this last Wed, and the route I took as close to the inner side of the wall as possible and the lap was exactly 7 miles on my Garmin. Started out at the Castleknock gates going anti clockwise, along the wall followed paths then on to a closed road and then along the river, (although I was a good bit above the river) down to the monument, cut across the road, and along the barracks and outter wall backto the gates. 2.5 laps of that and I was shattered, attempting 3 laps tonight :-(

This is awfully hazy information from a long time ago but starting at Neptune Rowing Club the S bends were roughly 2.5miles. Inside wall about 7ish miles and outside wall about 9ish all IIRC.

I would have said the length of the main rd through the park was closer to 4miles as in 6.4km but could be wrong. It's definitely imo more than 3miles. I thought I clocked in a car once at more than 3 miles.

Once again all hazy info! As for doing 3 laps - madness but good on you! Why not throw in a few hill sprints for fun while you are there!:D

I'm back doing gentle jogs as in 8-10km pace for 30-40mins and am happy with it!
