Help I am unfortunate enough to have inherited a fine pair of thunder thighs from my dads side of the family has anyone any tips on how to lose weight off my thighs as it is the one part of my body that I really can't bear.

I have just joined the gym so am looking for exercises that can help me reduce the size of these bad boys :D

I'm going to go ahead and ask whether you're male or female here before answering...

If you are a guy the easy way is to just get bigger all round so they look in proportion

If you are a girl, big legs and bum are a sign of high estrogen, I'd start by laying off the beer and taking up long distance running

I am female, and I don't actually drink beer and I jog on the threadmill 3 times a week for about 30-45mins (between speed setting 8 & 10)and play soccer once a week for about an hour
I also play GAA usually twice a week for 1.5hours at a time (when I go back training I'll only be gyming it prob 1 night a week)

Start loving your thighs. May i be the first to recommend that you add Squats to you current programme, you'll quickly find that you thigh and backside will tone up.

You can't spot reduce. Lose lots of weight if you can. You will probably still have large thighs though. Surgery won't help.

    Acceptance is your only hope.

i love big powerful thighs on women, look at beyonce, she has big thighs.
so my recommendations is to do nothing about it.

I don't need to lose lots of weight altho I could do with shifting a bit but hey who couldn't!!! I'm one of these bottom heavy people
I'm 1-2 dress sizes bigger on bottom than top, I think I'll start doin some squats alright as that had been suggested to me before, is there any weight machines in the gym that help this area aswell?

so close to perfection because they are big powerful toned thighs, make good sprinter/rugby player babies!!!
    edit:
leg press machine, and also leg extension (would that be correct - always get confused between the leg curl & leg extension), also lunges and high step ups , both with some weights in your hands are very good total leg excercies

Squats while maybe making the area firmer and tighter muscles won't do sfa for making them shrink. I'd suggest train for a marathon and then see how you feel about them, if they don't shrink after that then nothing will shrink them.

i love big powerful thighs on women,

Without dragging this thread into the gutter I would have to agree.

If you are trying to remove some of the fat from your thighs then its diet and weights (total body routine) that I'd recommend

No exercise will remove fat from your thighs only though.

Take up track cycling or speed skating and your thunder thighs will be your greatest asset:D

Or Olympic lifting. I was told recently in the gym by a fellow lifter who I have a lot of time for that I'm "all ass and thighs - made for weightlifting!!".

I saw a great compliment where 99% of women would have seen otherwise :p

You need to go live in South America. Generalisation I know, but in my experience they think Angelina Jolie has a disgusting body, but they absolutely love 'small on top, the bigger on bottom the better'.

My mother, without warning, blurted out the shocking line "You have enormous thighs!" as I attempted to discuss my preparations for a 6 mile race. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. However, taking up more running recently has given my legs much better muscle definition, which I am happy with (even if they're still fairly large...)

    I'm a guy, BTW.
