Revised date; opening on the 20th of April, €5.50 for a swim as a walk in and just over €400 for an annual membership (not sure if that's just for the pool or lets you in the gym as well)

Has anyone checked this place out? If so what is it like?

I checked out the DFRC gym this week. Its very close to me so I was very interested in maybe finding a hidden treasure here.

My ideal would be a local, well equiped, quiet, clean, reasonably priced gym.

4 out of 5 ain't bad I suppose. I like the idea of community run gym's. Its only €450 for a year and there are off peak prices and you can also pay €6 for a once off or €55 for 10 visits.

The only draw back is that it isn't well equipted for anyone more advanced than a novice lifter. There is a warmup room with a circuit of machines and a stretching area and 3 concept 2 rowers. There is a good variety of machines in there, the only probelm is the max load on all the machines is only about 60kg. And any gym with a few well maintained c2s gets two stars right away in my book.

The main gym has a few heavier machines for chest pressing, leg pressing, leg curls, two decent cable machines, two benches and a good stack of dumbells. No Barbell bench press, no squat rack, no chest supported row machine. Obviously they are not looking for any heavy lifters. They have gone middle of the road family gym with a definite leaning towards a female audience. Its a pity with a squat rack and a barbell bench this place would have ticked most of my boxes. I'd give it 3 out of 5.
