I have tried all the brick and mortar shops in my area, as well as my usual sites (play.com, amazon.co.uk, etc.)

Can anyone point me in the right direction? :(

London of all places, tried the big HMV store on Oxford Street, GAME and Gamestop near me. No joy. Every site and shop I've been to are out-of-stock.

Has anyone actually used one? I am tempted but wonder is a bluetooth keyboard would be a better option.

I mean will you be able to play games with that thing on it? Would you have to take it off everytime you want to send a message?

If it is for web only then surely a keyboard is better?

It fits on in such a way that it doesn't hinder your fingers at all, you can leave it on the whole time.

I haven't seen any either, bloody dying to get one.

It's fine playing games with it attached. The point of it is to send messages while using the controller, why would you want to take it off ???

Iv been using it in home and it's great, easy to get used to typing on it aswell.

I've got a ps3 keyboard and it doesn't really get any use ,apart from in Home.

I'd say the keypad would be very handy for short messages during gaming ,stuff like that.

I thought I read it covered two of the trigger buttons for extra stability. 40e is a joke though.

It also uses the buttons as a touchpad for browsing. I've one pre-ordered on shopto ,it should cost about 26 euro

I'd mainly use it for messages during game play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭CombatCow

nope it dosent cover the shoulders, you can use the keypad seperatly with your phone and pc too, i just typed this message using it :)

    Found one!

In a small GAME store an hour outside London. Huzzah indeed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭CL32

I picked one up in Gamestop in Clarehall shopping centre. It doesn't cover any shoulder buttons and is 100 times better than using the on screen keyboard. I find myself typing with two thumbs but you can bang out messages much faster. I used to reply to PSN messages in txt spk because it was annoying using the on screen yoke but thats all behind me now..

I'd say the main benefits over a keyboard is that it frees up a USB port on your PS3 - I have a 60 gig with 4 ports, but one has the PSeye connected and another always has a controller charging. Its neater having a slightly chunkier joypad stored under the tv then a full keyboard too.

I haven't used one yet ,still waiting for stock to come in on that site.
It looks like a blackberry keypad ,can't see there being much problems with them. The keys on the pad act as a trackpad for your pointer aswell and it seems to have shortcut keys to messaging.

The buttons are small but trust me you get used to it real quick. Its a neat little device. Seems sturdy and well built too.

Picked it up just after Christmas in Clare Hall, a bit disappointed when comparing it to the Xbox chat pad to be honest. My main gripes are..

-It's located in an awkward position above the controller.
    -It's not backlight
-It's self powered so you have to plug it into the PS3 to charge it
-And my biggest gripe is that my controller won't fit into my pelican controller charging dock with it attached like my Xbox one does.

It does the job but I'm a little disappointed that Sony didn't make more of an effort. Especially at the price there selling it at.

Anyone get it from Shopto yet?

How much was the delivery and total cost?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

I cancelled my pre-order on shopto ,there terms and conditions state they can charge more when the stock comes in.
They also state that there is bigger delivery charge for larger items.

I've got four games off them so far and I'm delighted with the service ,but I don't like the pre-ordering on the site. It's just something about it.

Thanks for that, I will wait unitl they have stock in or not at all so.

Amazon's price is great but I assume it falls under the forbidden electronics section.

Game.co.uk is a site I'm starting to use aswell. They will stock it aswell cheaper than shopto I think.
Amazon.co.uk won't ship it here even though I bought a 360 wireless pc controller last month?????

Is it worth getting? I have a spare keyboard, but should I get the pad instead? I'd only be using it for Home and the internet.

    as compared to this one.

They seem pretty small , looks tiny infact, the buttons are the same as those on a mobile phone!
I seen these other proper size ps3 keyboards , which I think I will go for ;)

My order has been taken, using euros and my ROI address.

play.com will always state if there is a problem.

I will confirm when it's shipped. In stock so should be soon.

EDIT: Was 'order taken' earlier. Just checked there and its 'packing'.

I just cancelled by Blah order, go to play and find they are sold out ffs.

Must be like 2 in stock at a time in these places.

    Back to blah then.

This is one of the coolest PS3 gadgets I've seen: http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-1-Media-Remote-PS3/dp/B001KZH63S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1232891442&sr=8-1

It's a keypad, remote control and Blu-Ray controller all in one. And at a very decent price as well. They are 45 Euro in the new Argos catalogue, so this looks like a real bargain.

It looks cool but you couldn't really type ingame messages without reaching for a new device if you know what I mean.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

All the normal buttons are on it (X, [], O, /\, on the right) so the idea is that you only need that one device.

But looking at it again, look where L/R buttons are (first and last three buttons on top row). Very awkward trying to press R1 and O, for example. Also just noticed no numbers on it. Maybe it should be left alone after all.

Back in stock in Blah(21 pounds delivered). Official one that is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

got this thing today from shopto ,quite happy with it.
a few handy features like the return key ,not having to press the start button twice is handy.
trackpad is not as good as expected ,but it works.

suprised at how small it is ,the keypad and sixaxis are about the same weight as the ds3.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,194 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Sorry, whats a trackpad?

Press the finger button on the keypad and the buttons act like a pad on a laptop. Move your finger over the buttons and the cursor moves around the screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,194 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I see, I actually think the sticks do a great job for that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

I've got in a habit of using the sticks for zooming and L2 to pull back ,I thought the trackpad thing would make it more browser friendly.
But the cursor seems to jump back to the previous key's ,maybe because of the spring mechanism. If the keys weren't so sensitive the trackpad would work a lot better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭CombatCow

    Remember to calibrate the trackpad:

    1. Go to Internet Browser

    2. Activate Touch pad(the hand with index finger pointing)

    3. Hold blue and orrange shoulder buttons for 2 seconds until the ligh flashes

Now your touch pad should be calaborated.
