If you would only be doing Communications for the sake of the Film and TV based modules, then you're right in putting Film and TV IADT as your first choice. Personally, Communications is more appealing because of the career opportunities and the possiblilty of one of their MA's (Scriptwriting....etc.). But in communications they dabble in psychology and lots of strange areas, so if Film and TV is really your thing then leave your CAO as it is.

Thats the thing, i am attracted to the MA's, and all the other areas like psychology.
As well as radio.. i have a strange love of it, and was lookin forward to this and the photography in the course. I liked that it had all three because I'm still uncertain which i'd prefer =/

As well as the Soc's in DCU like the radio station, DCU drama etc.

(Also, doing the ol' portfolio at the mo. So far have the photography done. Everything else.. well... )

It will all come to place soon. Word of advice to everyone though.....

Don't leave the internet CAO form until the last day. When I did my Leaving Cert, most people did and the system slowed down. It was near impossible to fill out the form. Some unnecessary distress and worry.

I don't know if you went to either of the open days, but I was at the DCU one and the lecture for the school of communications was very impressive. That's when I realised it was Communications I really wanted. The radio station, all the societies, the MA's and one helluva course...it all seemed great. Then again I know someone of doing the Film and TV course and apparently its quite good, but the open day really swayed me towards communications.

I ahve what like 3 weeks to make my mind up.... I ahvent a clue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭bythewoods

I actually did mine ages ago...

    Medicine TCD
    Medicine UCD
    Medicine NUIG
    Medicine RCSI
    Medicine UCC
    Human Health & Disease TCD
    Pharmacy TCD
    Pharmacy RCSI
    Radiation Therapy TCD
    Occupational Therapy TCD

I'm going to move Pharmacy ahead of Human Health and Disease though, I think.
I was offered Radiation Therapy last year and didn't accept it... I don't know why it's still there tbh. Probably because I know I'll more than likely get pharmacy.. Also because I'd love to do it.. just.. not as much as I'd love medicine. If I had pharmacy on my CAO last year I'd possibly have taken it.. none of this repeating business!
    Gah!

    Nah, you've way longer.
Fill out anything on it, then change it for free as many times as you like between May and June/ July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

Aye. Though, if you want to do a restricted course (ie something with portfolios, interviews) you have to have it down by the first deadline in February.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 56 ✭✭MrDrifter

Only going to be looking for something like computers/maths so wont be too worried about original deadline. Pity our careers teacher omits to tell us anything about the CAO. bet he comes up to us on wed and asks us to fill it in or something. what a pllonker he REALLY is

So far, Trinity Science as my first and TP as my second. Then got the UCD equivalents and finally Trinity Maths. I hopefully won't be in a situation where I won't get my first or second though so it's one of those 2.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 357 ✭✭djcervi

Well after the Trinity open day I filled in mine with no hesitation as I already knew what I wanted to do.

    So here it goes:

    1. European Studies- Trinity
    2. French/Spanish (TSM)- Trinity
    3. Modern Languages- UCD
    4. Arts- UCD
    5. Arts intl- Spanish- UCD
    6. Arts intl- French- UCD
    7. Italian/Spanish (TSM) - Trinity
    8. Business Studies & Spanish- Trinity

    Not filled in yet.

    I want:

    Psychology in UCC
    Psychology in Trinity
    Psychology in UCD
    Irish in UCC
    Irish in Trinity
Primary teaching and Psych in Mary I.
    Drama and theatre Studies UCC

I am just....confused about the order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,632 ✭✭✭SligoBrewer

    1. Modern Irish and English Literature - TCD
    2. Modern Irish and Philosophy - TCD
    3. Gaelige agus Iriseoireacht - DCU
    4. Orts - UCD
Then there'll probably be Maths in TCD and varying other stuff.
But i should get my 2nd course as it was 420 last year, so I'd happy enough with that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 catchthepigeon

    im thinking......

    Law and Business - Trinity
    Law - Trinity
    Business and Law - UCD
Commerce with Chinese Studies - UCD

    2.Business and Law-UCD
    3.BCL-DCU
    4.Civil Law-UCG

I am still unsure of what to put down on mine. I am very interested in the health and I'd like to work in a hospital but unfortunately I am doing only 1 science subject so I can't put down "Human Health and Disease"... Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiation Therapy are all courses I would love to do but I'm unsure if I could achieve those points. But I suppose.. there's no harm in putting them down anyway..

You arrange your CAO in ORDER OF PREFERENCE. The more you want it, the higher up it goes. Don't think about the points.

Just after finishing this off now, doubt Ill change it!

    Level 8 Course Choices:
    1. DN015 Commerce UCD

    3. DC111 Business Studies DCU

True, however it is probably a lost cause. No matter what,I believe there will still be mass confusion over the CAO form.

If you really want to do medicine why not put down all 5 courses considering the competition is so high (and its going to be worse this year).
    My CAO
    Medicine galway
    Medicine ucd
    Medicine RCSI
    Medicine TCD
Medicine UCC (and i've never even been to Cork)
    Pharmacy TCD
    Pharmacy RCSI
    Pharmacy UCC
    Biomedical science UCD
    Radiography UCD

    5. CK701 Medicine - UCC

    8. DN037 Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences - UCD
    9. TR075 Medicinal Chemistry - TCD
    10. GY301 Science - NUIG

This is subject to change, I'm thinking I might be interested in Psychology, and I sort of rushed the order, I'll probably put TCD above NUIG for Med.
