I love this man- he is a creative genuis although he has ousted many admirers with such stubborn opinions on fur. So many other resources now a days. Probably few that hold the lustre and warmth of fur. Had to LOL at comments of size zero models.

He is so fabulously French! :)

Totally forgot that always precieve him as French clue -in the name suppose - anyway its his attitude I love! Dont agree with him -love the fact he has the bravery to say such things although go against the grain and he is an absolute genuis!

Absolutely, nobody could argue with his point. If it weren't for the brave hunters, them baby seals could grow up and develop weapons of mass destruction and launch them from their secret icy bases of doooom.

Animals only kill for food or when they feel threatened, so are unlikely to attack if left alone. When was the last time you saw a tiger showing off a brand new human-skin...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

A mixture of good points and retarded statements. When we routinely eat meat and wear leather, anyone who does either has no moral argument against the wearing of fur whatsoever. The principles are the same. Jesus though, some wild shíte in there too.

The man's right. I'm glad somebody's finally speaking out about this. Tiny adorable seal pups killed my whole family. Never underestimate the tiny adorable little b*stards.

Leather is a by-product of the meat industry so it doesn't really deserve to be compared to the fur industry. Leather is largely obtained from the carcasses of animals that were killed for their meat, whereas fur is gotten from animals just for their fur. So many animals have faced extinction just because their fur is considered fashionable.

When man crawled out of his cave many years ago, he killed for survival. Be that the meat to eat or the coat to wear to keep him warm in the winter months while he hunted that amount what was needed only to survive.

When we progress from the killing of other living things for the leisure persuit of sport or fashion (than basic survival), that where the likes of this Largerfeld wacko and I differ.

There is basic necessity to survive and it will always be that way. If one kills an animal for (many) survival reasons, it understandable that the other parts will be found a use for also.
When (for parts there of) the animal are killed though for something other than survival needs - as far as I'm concerned, fashion can go to hell.

There is justification in killing for feeding the family.
There is no justification in killing just to look good!

I see someone with fur, I think nothing of them but they to be a vain "I love me" gobschite.

• Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 130 ✭✭tedstriker

I don't think the man is advocating the killing of baby seals with a bulmers bottle but rather pointing out that it's a massive oxymoron that in a world where eating meat is so normal and wearing leather shoes is so normal that the issue of fur should be treated so differently.

He is also right about the fat people. Obese people are everywhere but this gets the same attention as people who are size zero. Bizarre considering that most of the hospitals in this country would not be under pressure if people were not so lazily fat. The money saved here could be used to help those with psychological eating disorders.

He is simply saying that the public's opinions are warped and if you ask me he is right. If only he didn't wear a glittering glove he would have more respect for his opinions.

I've an idea.
Use rat fur.

Kill rats, skin them, give the meat to starving people. Everyone wins.

Now before the P.C. goons pounce, rat meat is edible.

Now I wouldn't eat it myself, but if I was in a famine stricken country, I'd be quite happy to eat it.

He's fails to mention the fact that the majority of fur used isn't from exotic wild animals, most of it is from dogs or cats and is marketed under a different name.
On most of the coats/jackets with fur cuffs/collars, the fur used is cat or dog, and in a lot of cases the animals are still alive as they are skinned.

All in all he seems quite the idiot.

I can't see why anyone feels the need to wear baby seal fur, Minx fur or any kind of fur for that matter. But, if demand is there, then there will always be supply.

Do i look down on someone for wearing it? No, not a chance in hell I'd know what i was looking at if it passed me by on the street.

Some people just like to make statements with their fashion, some people like to be controversial. Some people just couldn't give a fcuk and have way too much money and no way to spend it.

I think if people ignored them, they might go away. Or maybe if they had a place like "Hostel" to go to, where they actually had to murder the animal first that might put them off (or make serial killers out of them).

Nah, I saw a video of animals being skinned alive for their fur. Most disturbing thing I've ever seen, tbh. I think they may have been arctic foxes or something. Not sure, but it was seriously disgusting.

I think it's something to do with the quality of the fur being better the sooner after death, so they just took it to a new level. Maybe it's about blood flow or something.

There is no comparison between the leather/meat trade and wearing fur. If you're going to go out and hunt a mink specifically to eat it and feed your family with it, then you're entitled to wear it's coat.

Having seen the hidden camera footage of it been done to several animals I wish it was propaganda, a lot of fur isn't from big commercial operations but from small family type operation and so as not to damage any of the coat the animals were hung by their legs and they would stick a knife in the stomach as it was not part of the coat slit down and skin the animal, by the time the animals were skinned most of them were still alive and while some then had their throats slit to kill them, some were just left to die of shock.

Unfortunately quite a bit of leather is also made from dog and in this case the hair was burnt off them before skinning and yes they were still alive.

I don't want to link to videos as they are some of the most sickening things I have ever seen but they do exist.

A surprisingly large amount of fur is from German shepards.

That doesn't answer the question though. What is the purpose of this? Unless you can actually show me a website that details this practise, and isn't simply a PETA owned site, I will continue to be sceptical. Also if so much fur is made from dogs why do people bother to keep mink?

I'm not sure whether you seen my post or not brian but I'm logging off soon so I'll answer as best I can.

Why is it done? simple, money.

Why dogs and cats? because they're easy to get, cheap and plentiful.

Why still alive? so as not to mark the coat and because its cheaper then paying for the proper equipment.

Its normally called something else and in most cases its not illegal, some countries have it banned but most haven't and even in places its banned its still regularly smuggled in as some other type of fur.

I'm actually not a big fan of peta either but one of the bigger investigations was done by the Humane Society International.

They walk throught the door of the plant accompanied by the sounds of
moo-ing and startled cows. Electricity noise sparks in the background
as the camera pans down the length of the factory to a truck marked
"Meat For You" being loaded with raw chunks of meat. Troy and Jimmy
emerge, with Jimmy visibly pale and queasy.
Troy: Gettin hungry Jimmy?
Jimmy: Uhh, Mr. McClure? I have a crazy friend who says its wrong
to eat meat. Is he crazy?
Troy: Nooo, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend never heard
of "The Food Chain". [Flash to a picture of "Food Chain",
with all animals and arrows pointing to a silhouette of a
human.] Just ask this scientician.
Scientician: [Looking up from a microscope.] Uhhh...
Troy: He'll tell you that, in nature, one creature invariably
eats another creature to survive.
[Images of various wild carnivores attacking and eating
others appear.]
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance,
he'd eat you and everyone you care about! [Image of a cow
quietly chewing cud.]
Jimmy: Wow, Mr. McClure. I was a grade A moron to ever question
eating meat.
Troy: [Laughs.] Yes you were Jimmy, yes you were. [Briskly rubs
his hand on Jimmy's head.]
Jimmy: [Timid] Uhh...you're hurting me.
