Not getting overly politcal I'd like to find out who people would vote as Taoseach in the morning if they had the chance? (party politics, party size irrelevant)

Who do you think is the right person to lead us out of this current mess and more importantly provide a stable picture into the future?

I suppose so it doesn't get too broad, current T.D's will be the only ones eligible.

Your pick for Taoiseach? 129 votes

    Brian Cowen

If it's limited to existing politicians, Richard Bruton.

I have no leanings towards any party but I think Richard Bruton is excellent.

I have seen him speak live on a couple of occassions and have been very impressed. He knows his stuff and he is engaging and a doer. I only wish Enda would bow out so Richard could get a chance.

I'd vote for Dustin the turkey first before I'd vote for Deputy Dawg!

Ermmmmmmmmmmm, where is the Gerry Adams option?
They are a party with TD's, MEP's and a private army I'll have you know.

Personally, i'd vote in "the lord of cheese" here on Boards. He's a sandbag of knowledge (based in the UK) in a torrent of illgotten and illconcieved political opinion here on boards and across our gerat nation as a whole.

I say we elect mortin mcguinness as taoiseach thus making him emperor of All Ireland, and maybe give him a little hat too

Richard Bruton. He always comes across as intelligent and statesmanlike. I wonder would Fine Gael do any better if he was at the helm. Enda Kenny never comes across well. I dunno if it's his voice or what but he's like the priest with the boring voice on Fr Ted. I switch off.

Politicians are only interested in keeping their places. Whoever is elected Taoiseach is gonna spend the whole time trying to convince the country that he is doing good so that he'll be voted in again. It's stupid and no matter who we vote for we're gonna get F'd in the A.
O'Leary would at least try and do something to save the country, no matter how unpopular it makes him.

I added another line that explains why.

Obviously the Jack Charlton thing was a joke, but I do think that O Leary would do just as good a job as anyone else.

If I had to choice someone from the list above, it would be Richard Bruton - but can't see Enda Kenny stepping aside to let Richard Bruton become leader.

I think there are other FF TD's who would do a decent job as Taoiseach (Micheal Martin and Mary Hanafin, to name two.) Can't think of many in FG who I'd pick to be Taoiseach, although Dr. James Reilly would make a good Minister for Health.

For the top job it would be a toss up between Cowen (yes, I'm being serious) and Gilmore. I'd like to see a FF/Labour coalition at some point.

I'm just about keeping faith with FF for now but if they fcuk up something bigtime (and I mean seriously screw up, not just another molehill turned into a mountain by the rabble brigade) I might end up with just Labour aswell.

I wouldn't mind Richard Bruton in power but I have serious reservations about voting for Fine Gael because their collective IQ must be fairly low if they are failing to capitalize on FF's demise by not removing that pillock, Enda Kenny, as their leader. Having him as a leader gives a shoddy image to the whole party. No offense intended to primary school teachers across the country, but in an economic crisis I would rather someone with high qualifications in economics in charge rather than someone who decides whether a ten year old can leave the class to go piss.

Agreed, you do have to question the intelligence and ability of a party that has not dealt with the issue of their leader being unelectable as a Taoiseacht.

To be honest, it makes them look as bad as Fianna Fail, a useless leader and not a sign of a decision being made along the lines of what is best for the country.

Right now I'm guessing that the rest of Fianna Fail are hoping that Cowan don't fall.
Especially the ones around his head table.
(I can hear them now whispering amid themselves "Don't elect me, I don't want the job")

No possible candidate leader (in his/her right mind) should want to be elected to the position of "Leader" when the times are bad.
The lesser muppets around the Fianna Fail table are quite happy to sit where they are in their lesser support roles. They know that the head person always gets the most flack thrown at them on average.
Who in their right mind wants to become target practise when times are bad?

The opposition while squeaking (Enda - he has the forcefulness of a poodle!) from the other side are quite happy to be there more so at the present state of affairs.

Granted once things start to get better - from both sides, (then) stand back and watch the real dirty rugby scramble start for the leadership position.

Personally, I'd like Graham Norton running the country.
Boy that would be fun! We'd be piss broke but he'd still make us smile! :D

Joe Fritl's the man. He would start another building boom by giving out grants so that we could all have cellars to store our "wine".
