The Irish lifting set is in better denominations , personally I would go with the Irish lifting set , you will have to pay a delivery charge with Argos but you can make arrangements with Mickk to pick the set up directly from Irish lifting ;)

they both say 140kg, but irish-lifting says 4x5kg, and 2x2.5kg, while argos says 2x5kg and 4x2.5kg. All other plate numbers are the same.

Irishlifting numbers do tot up to 140kg, i.e. bar 20kg. So either argos have a typo or are leaving you short.

AFAIK mickks plates come out of the same Macy factory as those argos ones. The argos used to say it was Macy, not anymore, but the photo says macy.

If I was starting from scratch I would want to be able to buy a 140kg set but be able to pick my own plates to that point. I would prefer 25kgs plates for deadlifts.

Thanks for the advice! Must be a typo on the argos one id say, i reckon(hope) they are identical. I live in Cork so collection from irish lifting is out of the question. Argos is only 5mins in car so that seems handier!

Also, im looking for a bench with adjustavble levels etc! Im a bit strapped for cash (like most people at this time of year) anyone know where i can get a fairly ok bench for lifting with these olympic weights for a good price! I know argos and irish lifting have them but they are around the €300 mark. Am i fooling myself thinking I can get one for any cheaper then this?:)

I was thinking of something like this; http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/barbell_benches/powertec_olympic_narrow_bench/9986_p.html

I need something to hold the weights etc. I have a bench i got in argos a few years back buts its just a normal foldable one and when lifting heavier weights its too dangerous!

The above works out at about €240 delivered with sterling the way it is at present! 30GBP extra for delivery! i rang them up to enquire about a price, seems like a good deal! anyone have any comments on it or know where i can get nearer home for similar price?

The collars with the Argos set look to be quick release collars, there is a bit of weight in these collars which might bring the total weight to 140 kg.

Possibly, but there is 5kg in the difference, I doubt the collars are 2.5kg each. And I doubt the bar is over 20kg.

In the argos picture it does look like 2x5kg, and 4x2.5kg.

delivery is free from irish lifting over €500 so if you got both things delivery should be free, might even get a discount if you ask nice.

I would sooner get a power rack and separate bench, so you can do dips, chins & squats in the power rack.

The bench in the UK does not come with those leg & curl devices, neither does the irishlifing one.

I know for a fact that Elvery's had a 140Kg set going for about 240. The bar didn't look to be Olympic (not 20kg), but otherwise all above board and TBH i was tempted, but my gym is a mile away and excuses are just that - excuses.

    269 on their site

might be cheaper in the store, but 20 delivery too. Also they are not tri grip plates by the look of things. The trigips are usually wider diameter so higher for deadlifts, also easier to pop on and off and I sometimes use mine on their own, for lunges and other stuff.

I would agree with you on the power rack and seperate bench option if not for the fact that I already have a Weilder multi gym (purchased 2 years ago which I get fantastic use from) it has a very handy dip station and a chin up facility already on it, along with all the various leg and curl devices, albeit a pain in the arse to get those particular ones connected mid routine!

I think the one in irish lifting looks good but i also found one on ebay from what looks like a very reputable and long established 'bricks and mortar company'
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-MARCY-MCB5700-OLYMPIC-WEIGHT-BENCH-FREE-P-P_W0QQitemZ120357238724QQihZ002QQcategoryZ15281QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
If i could get this collected , as i have a facility in work to import from the u.k, it would seem like a sweet deal, even if the charge was 60-70GBP it would still work out ok. This has a few attachments included in price!

Also, forgot to mention that the reason i am so keen to buy in argos is I have some gift vouchers over €100 which would go nicely towards the weights sets, so if it wasnt too much of a difference in sets it would seem like a no brainer! At the same time i want to get the proper stuff because its a lot of money to be shelling out and I want to get it right first time round.

I said it before in a different thread on a similar topic but I really don't think you need a bench. Shoulder press, dips, floor press, floor pullover and a few others should be more than enough to keep you going, and cheaper too. If at some later stage you still want a bench and are in a better position financially you could get it then-maybe go without for a month or three and see how you feel then.

Says £120 to ireland, so best get it collected! I hate that, since the "free" postage to mainland UK is not free! its included in the price. So really they are saying £120 EXTRA to post to here.

Yeah, I no longer use the bench in my house, just do various dips and pushups. And those oly ones look pretty big, I wouldn't have the room.
