Cork relay and Boards AC

Would anyone fancy doing the Cork relay in June. Maybe if we got a list of names of who's doing it and randomly select teams and have a bit of a friendly competition between ourselves, for a bit of crack. And maybe it doesn't just have to be Boards ac members as there are quite a few other regular posters who are not members of BAC who would be more than welcome.

I think this is a good idea, there are many variations in the relay as to numbers/distance etc. Also i would like to finish a marathon strongly (if only in a relay)!. Nothing else for me between the terenure and adidas 5 either so it would fill a gap.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭MCOS

What date is it and what's the distance?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

I'll have a flick through the irish runner and let you know for def later, it's in the first week of June, I think and the relay team (again I think) can be made up of between 2 & 5 people and the distance per leg can be as little as 5 miles and can be as big as 1/2 marathon. I'll have a look at the site and post the details properly later, but it would def fill a gap in my training aswell plus it would be good day out and friendly competition while putting faces to the usernames.

I might be interested in doing it for something a bit different. No way I'd consider doing a marathon in June though. Regardless of suggestions that the weather in Cork is rubbish, doing marathons in the summer are just plain stupid, and dangerous.

Plan to do the Cork marathon (my first) in June so if anyone passes a small guy with grey hair in wobbly condition at any stage, give him a push cause its probably me :D

When i finish, i'll catch my breath and thank you for the push

That is some weird points that they have for the change overs then if the team of two does not even get the option of doing two halves.

The best places logistically for the chageover points (setting up, parking etc) clearly aren't at the distances that you would ideally choose. And the relay is hugely busy and successful at Cork - it makes it a great event.

    Oh No!
Boards AC threaten my plan to improve on my 3rd place in the relay!

Seriously, its a great event. I loved being part of a relay team.

Count me in too Woddle, for a longer leg if possible. Heard good things about the course (Slogger Jogger pb'd here, so it may measure short;) )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

Great interest so far. Which is great. The more teams we can make the better, a bit of bragging rights up for grab :D

    I'd also be interested

I'm doing Edinburgh the day before. If there's a team of people not looking to do really well, I'd be interested in taking part in theirs so I can kind of do two marathons in two days. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭shels4ever

    I'd be on for that.

    Sounds interesting :)

I'd be interested in this. I've run the full marathon for the past two years, but wasn't planning on it this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

Just resurrecting this to gauge interest as its not too far away now and any suggestions on how we pick teams, I reckon just randomly pick as its all in good spirit rather than a serious aspect.

Hmm, if anyone's driving down from Dublin and needs a slow fat girl for a 6-10 mile leg, I'd be interested.

I have 2 spots free in my car, my cousin has already bagged a spot in the car, he's doing the full. He lives up your way aswell Rainbow Kirby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭Roddy23

I'm going to do the run either way. Will see how the Connemara Half goes, and training after that, as might attempt to do the full down there.

But if training slackens off a bit in anticipation of Dublin, will do the relay.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭shels4ever

If we do get enough people it maybe possible to get a hire a minibus for the day . Might be an idea if we have numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,441 ✭✭✭Slogger Jogger

Doing Edinburgh... otherwise I'd be well up to running Cork again. The experience in the last 2 years was great.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,608 ✭✭✭donothoponpop

    Still interested!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Funkyzeit

should still be ok for this - week before the Wiclow 200 but reckon I'll be alright...

    Count me in too Woddle.
    Decided against the full.

Wally is going for the full again.

Might you not try for a group rate on the train. You would never make it down on the day (train gets in too late) but no problem the day before and return the eveing of. I think sitting in a car or minibus for 3 to 4 hours after the race, even as a relay, would be hell!

Myself and Robinph are confirmed for the Cork relay and I'm waiting to hear back from Shels4ever. So I'm looking for 2 regular posters to join our team. When this team is complete we can start on team 2 which will need someone to captain and look after registration.
There are 7 days left before the online registration fee changes, it's currently 90 euro for a relay team.
First preference will be given to regular posters on this forum (anyone who has posted at least a handfull of times and we can work sth out for new posters)

    Really looking forward to this

Based in Cork and won't let you down (as regards turning up on the day anyhow )

Hi Rainbow I'll put you on team 2 for now, they might change again, I just want to make sure RoyMcC has a team and isn't left out. If know one else is interested at least we have one team made :)

I don't think its a case of needing bodies but more the merrier. Whether we have 1 or 4 teams out it should be a laugh.

The relay is a great idea. I'd like to do it but I can't justify a hotel for a relay and teh race starts at 9.

It would be nice to do a handicap 10k, like smcgui says, that way everyone is in with a shout.

I have Tri the previous day but I'll drive down that morning if you want to hop aboard? If we leave Limerick at 6-6.30 we will have loads of time.

Might go down the night before as my cousin is coming with me and he's doing the full, so I want to give him the best chance but I still havn't asked the oh for permission yet but I'm going to try and get a babysitter organised and bring my wife with me and make a night out of it. Have you made your mind up yet ? ;) you know you want to
