    Hi

    paul from Atlantis casino here.
    ,
Dan, can you please take a look at posts 99-104.

We are the only casino in Carlow and a casino is a lot different to a bookies office in regards to employment.

A bookies will have in the region of 6 staff, we currently employin the region of 30, The money these staff earn is circulated in the town via rent, restaurants, shops etc etc

The casino is more on the carlow social scene than sheer gambling.

We have strict policies in place to ensure the wellbeing of our patrons ( like our self exclusion policy )

also there is strict monitoring by management to make sure no individual getting in above there heads, for example we do not have a credit card facilities.

If anyone has any private questions please pm me.

Just a quick comment on your post...

I have been in your casino.. Myself and a group of girlfriends went one night after the night club..we heard some men on the street talking about it..

all with alcohol in us.. we were allowed in.. handed more alcohol..

Encouraged to gamble.. by the staff.. I was really shock.. people smoking in the halls and fighting on the stairs..

I witnesses men handing over obscene amounts of cash while drinking crazy amounts of alcohol..

This is not looking after your customers Paul..

It is illegal to sever drunk people in a pub.. so why is it ok to take money from drunk people in a casino??

Dont say you dont allow drunk people in because on a Saturday night it is no secret that hoards of drunk men and women flock to your casino and throw wads of cash at the dealers.. drinking the "FREE" alcohol clouding there judgement and incouraging more reckless gambling.

Ban the drunks and serve no alcohol...

I admire you for taking advange of a market opening..............................

but not for taking advange of the drunks and the stupid.

Im sure theres a legal issue with the "Casino" business anyway.. it should be a private members club...

IE a member joins and receives an identification card..
admittance is only allowed with ID..
We had no cards or ID or membership..????

Also just to add the night we were there I chatted to a couple of boys who I know are in 6th year in school... both aged 17!!!!!!!

    Thats my 2cents!!

A few businesses that seem to be thriving No end are Aldi, Lidl, Pennys, McDonalds, tesco,Casinos & other places people gamble because of Money problems- its sad in a way when people start chasing their losses (recipe for disaster)
also i think a lot of pubs are bearly existing in carlow now mostly because their are too many of them der must be 40 pubs in the town cut that number in half maybe the rest would increase business

Haha that was deadly reading that madonna123 post cos you riped into it :)

To many people mince their words on here I find (and I certainly have been guilty of that myself) so fair play.

Was going past that Uncle Woks place that was supposed to be opening soon on kennedy ave, it was being stripped clean.

On a good note, a new shop has opened beside macdonalds and xtra vision. Think its an xmas shop.

It's probably that shop that only exists for the few weeks before Christmas and closes immediately after. There's been one doing that in town for a few years now.

New Diner Cafe Type Thing opened up during the week upstairs in Fairgreen.
Was open tonight & I getting my shopping. Good few in it too.
    Hope it goes well.
Is it not a bit cold for those sitting downstairs in the juice-bar places in the centre of the ground floor?
I'd imagine it'd be more comfortable upstairs.
Why did the previous cafe there close? The disadvantage it has is it's out of the way in that you have to go upstairs.
But it's a people-watching place where the world goes by underneath you.

    Directions:
Walk In. Head straight towards Boscos. You will see a Lift or a Stairs.
Either & Both will lead you elsewhere.
This elsewhere will be a strange place.
    We call it Upstairs.
It stars Teddys, Blakes Hairdressers & The Jacks & Eircom Internet Kiosks.
Be careful & don't get lost.
Do NOT confuse with downstairs. Or outside.
    Best of Luck.

I heard that Esquire's (The downstairs Cafe) were opening up that cafe. That could be completely wrong though.

With so many small shops vacant on Castle Hill, Tullow Street and Dublin Street the old part of Carlow is starting to look like a ghost town.

Hi - I supply casinos with some of their equipment so am sort of qualified to say the following.

Every "casino" operator would love to see proper rules & licencing, then they can invest properly in facilities.

There was a court case recently and the judge threw it out in 5 minutes as the legislation was too vague to adjudicate on the matter - this effectively has thrown out some rules and makes legislation even more urgent.

There are also no rules as to how "membership" is operated by any private club. The only stipulation is to get your name and id. There's no stipulation as to membership cards or address.

As for 6th year boys - these days most 6th years if not all are 18. (transition year added a year)

With a bit of luck, legislation will finally come in next year to allow casinos and give proper regulation to the industry. - There are approx. 60 "private" clubs in operation around Ireland at present employing about 800 people.

Looks like work is going on fitting out the unit beside Curry's in Four Lakes Retail Park. It's the large unit closest to the Dublin Road. Anyone know what might be going in there? Would be good to see the place progressing.

Anyone know about that new burger place on Potato market? Just passed by the other day but didn't have time to stop. Is it just another chipper or bit more 'gourmet'?

Was talking to a fella at station today about Cost Plus Sofas.
They opening-up on 27th of December.
At the moment, the fitting-out is going-on & will be do until Tuesday when they finish up.
Iirc, incredulous as I think it seems/sounds, there ondly 3 Staff there & the chap I talk to said he worked in Kilkenny Branch.
But, get this (& I haven't opportunity to check their' website so am taking employees' word on the matter), it's E75 to deliver your' suite of furniture.
The stock in shop is display ondly.
Imagine someone in town, Rathvilly, Hacketstown etc. paying E75 for a Sofa or Suite of Furniture to be delivered? Madness surely.

cheaply produced furniture combined with dire customer service= cost plus sofa's. I know 2-3 people that are involved in legal disputes with these guys over faulty recliners which the refuse to repair or replace.

Same shower of sh1tes that used to run Courts. The stuff is dreadful muk and way over priced even at their false sale prices.

Avoid and use a proper local furniture shop that will give real service.

From reading some of your posts I came to a conslusion that you have something to do with the furniture business in Carlow and strange enough just few meters up the road from Cost Plus sofas new showroom there is a furniture shop and your username is the first 4 letters of the shop name......ends with interiors.

Few companies that you have commented are DSF & Harvey Norman both are in the furniture business,

And I must be a radio presenter too.

I have no connection whatsoever with any furniture business. I am in IT.

DFS, don't operate in Ireland, but use similar false advertising practices inthe UK. Harvey Norman always have some sort of "sale" on, but at least they don't pretend to offer 50% off everything and don't raise prices a week beforehand. They just are generally quite expensive - but at least their product is good quality.

My parents did lose money when Courts closed down in Dublin a few years back and if you key in "Cost Plus Sofas" into google you find an awful lot of people who have very little positives to say about them.

So called "sale prices" "double discounts" "sale ending Sunday" types of adverytising by the likes of Cost Plus, Land of leather (closed down becasue people finally realised their products were crap), Carpet right, Right price tiles etc etc are misleading the public and finally something is being done about this style of false marketing by the NCA.

The Millrace hotel in Bunclody has shut down. I'm not surprised tbh, it was the worst designed hotel i have ever been in.

    Eh, gtf? Wtf?
I just rang them there (Carlton Group'd been doing a Sales Pitch/Promo in Fairgreen outisde Tesco on 19th iirc.) on (053)-93,75100.
The call was answered & Receptionist said they were still open.
I even asked were they closing-down as I'd eh, heard a rumour & he said no.
