    Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a good Christmas and really want to wish everyone a Happy New Year too.

    I'm sure there might be a little bit of controversy over this but I have had a number of female poker players ask me to put together a tournament like this so I am going to run with it;

The Irish Ladies Poker Championships 2009 will take place on Saturday 21st February 2009 in the Regency Airport Hotel, Swords Road, Dublin 9.

Entry costs US$80 (+US$8 registration fee) No Limit Texas Hold'em Freezeout:
    12 noon start on Sat 21st Feb;
    Estimated Prize-Pool; US$32,000

All registration is taking place online through pokerireland.ie...We will have a link up on the site in the next few days so all players that wish to take part must register through the website (I will post the link in this thread as well).

We're hoping to achieve a field of 400 players for this one day event. We can handle more than that but I think a realistic estimate is that we will get somewhere between 300 and 400 ladies to play.

    Level 1 25-50 12:00 12:30
    Level 2 50-100 12:30 13:00
    Level 3 75-150 13:00 13:30
    Level 4 100-200 13:30 14:00
    Break 14:00 14:20
    Level 5 150-300 14:20 14:50
    Level 6 200-400 14:50 15:20
    Level 7 300-600 15:20 15:50
    Level 8 400-800 15:50 16:20
    Break 16:20 16:40
    Level 9 500-1,000 16:40 17:10
    Level 10 800-1,500 17:10 17:40
    Level 11 1,000-2,000 17:40 18:10
    Level 12 1,500-3,000 Dinner Break 18:10 18:40
    Level 12 1,500-3,000 Dinner Break 18:40 19:10
    Level 13 2,000-4,000 19:10 19:40
    Level 14 3,000-6,000 19:40 20:10
    Level 15 4,000-8,000 20:10 20:40
    Level 16 5,000-10,000 20:40 21:10
    Level 17 8,000-15,000 21:10 21:40
    Break 21:40 22:00
    Level 18 10,000-20,000 22:00 22:30
    Level 19 15,000-30,000 22:30 23:00
    Level 20 20,000-40,000 23:00 00:00
    Level 21 30,000-60,000 00:00 00:30
    Level 22 40,000-80,000 00:30 01:00
    Level 23 50,000-100,000 01:00 01:30
    Level 24 80,000-150,000 01:30 02:00

The tournament will be fully dealer dealt and professionally run as always :)

Cash game rake; €5 per player per half hour.

We are going to need a lot of help from lady poker players to help us get the word around about this tournament. The whole idea is that we see poker grow as a sport and the only way we can do that is to introduce as many new players to the game as possible.

    Many thanks,
    Stephen Mc Lean.

P.S. Please note; we will not be accepting cash registrations on the day of the event.

The full schedule for online satellites will be posted up really soon.

Players will be able to qualify for as little as $1.

I'd be curious to know what female players asked for this? Are there actually women out there who think they not on a level playing field with the men at a poker table.

I don't think so Nicky no.

Anyway, I'm sure a few women will tear me apart here on Boards for putting this together but I am just going to run with it as I think it will be a good laugh and I think there is a strong demand for it.

    Stephen.

They have a ladies only tournament on the World Poker Tour every year. It's not uncommon.

    :D

    Nice one Stephen! :D VWP!

The women's event in the Paddy Power Irish Open last April was a sell out, the IPO women's event got decent numbers too, but space was very limited. I'm always giving out that women's events are usually a 'side' game, why not have it as a main event? :) It's nice to be listened to once in a while! ;)

    I'll be playing... :D

I would like one for Fat blokes. Wider chairs and ridges on the chips so that they don't slip through greasy fingers - Which reminds me, will Tiffany Michelle be there?:D

I think I'm as good as any of you, but the fact still remains that men outnumber women 20-to-1 at tournaments, it's usually men that win these events, THAT intimidates a lot of women... I know a couple of women who only play home games with their own friends, other women - this would be the ideal tournament for them to get out and play a 'proper game'.

There is some merit to it alright but as pointed out here PPP tried this at the Irish Open and got 60 runners, mainly players partners.

60? It was closer to 260...

yeah I recall it being 140 or something like that. Pretty certain it sold out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭ionapaul

It did sell out - as far as I know we're increasing the capacity this year as a result.

Don't really understand why men get all worked up about these Ladies only events. Anything which encourages more female players is surely good?

    Similar to Student tournaments surely.

Great idea to keep the kids entertained while the woman play the main event ;)

Although I am surprised a tornament like this is getting organised I agree with Electrablue that it could be a good thing and let some females who may be intimidated in the normal arena get to play a decent tournament rather than a side event.

Ok guys & girls I am really going to kick off the promotion of this event now in the new year.

We are going to be sending out flyers all over the country....If you would like me to post you some send me a quick PM or email stephen@pokerireland.ie

I really would appreciate any and all help from guys and girls to get the word around about what will hopefully be a full 400 runner ladies only poker tournament.

    Many thanks,
    Stephen Mc Lean.

P.S. The link to Titan is now up on pokerireland.ie ... ... In order to take part in this tournament you are going to have to download Titan from our link. Registration for the main event and a full schedule of satellites will be up on the site very soon.

you should run it alongside a real tournament, would help numbers.

Doubt it. Numbers were brutal last time that happened. Depending on structure, some of us might prefer to play the 'real' tourney and skip the LOE.

Not sure how many 'new to poker' women will travel for it, but hopefully there are enough in the Dublin area to make up for that. I know plenty in my area, but trying to get them to travel is next to impossible. Never mind getting them to open online poker accounts for registration. That should be fun...lol Ah well, I'll still work on them for you. :)

Binions run a Ladies Only event every year and it sells out year on year

Lots of country towns have small games going on, Ladies turn up for these with their partners and the ratio of men to women is about 70/30, and not the usualm 20/1 we see in open tourneys

I wonder what would be the whoo Haaa if there was a Men Only competition, the event organisor would be slated and hammered for sexism, but when its the other way round, positive descrimination, then its ok ????

    funny world we live in

    2 questions
1, can you play if you dress up as a woman, i.e. are trannies allowed enter ?
2, can they pay in cash on the day straight from their purses?

will you be running a side event for partners, i.e. where men can play?
    will there be cash games?

is there a restriction on the sex of the dealers? men only or what?

not going to be an easy sell for this one, but best of luck with it

    Hi all,

The first online satellite to the Ladies Championships is taking place tomorrow, 5th January at 8pm. I know it is early in the new year and there has been very little work done on promotion so far so would really appreciate it if we got a bit of support for this tournament.

    It costs $8.80 (+.80c reg)

Please click here (on our affiliate link) if you wish to take part: http://banner.titanpoker.com/cgi-bin/redir.cgi?id=N&member=PokerIreland&profile=ladies09

Once you download the Titan software just open an account and deposit your buy-in. Once you do this you will be ready to play.

    Many thanks,
    Stephen.

    Hi Stephen,

I see that there's 1 ticket guaranteed for every satellite on Titan. Is this regardless of the number of people that register? i.e if i'm the only person to reg do i win the ticket by default?

    Cheers

    Gill

I'm almost certain the answer is yes, but I will have to come back to you on this tomorrow as soon as I get an answer from the guys at Titan. I am pretty sure they are just going to start these off with the ticket guaranteed to see how they go.

    Stephen.

Thanks to all that have contacted me today to organise getting flyers sent out and everything. I'm still getting my bearings back after the long Christmas break but I hope we can really get the promotion going for this event now to make sure we get the 400 capacity.

    Thanks,

yeah I was on hold twice and they hung up on me.... and it was to canada aswell..... meh... Suppose if we all get together and make sure 10 people can register. Can't do tomorrow night but Wednesday will be okay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,771 ✭✭✭carfax

    Hi guys,

Heard it was cancelled tonight due to lack of players.

I will get the promotion really rolling over the next few days and hope to get a lot more interest in these sats.

There are also STT satellites available all the time so if ten players can organise a time to play that will definitely work.

Sorry about the lack of numbers tonight, I'm only getting back into the swing of things after new year's so need to make sure a lot more players know about this event and the sats on Titan.

    Stephen.

We have women screaming to close Men Only golf clubs but happily accept this sort of "positive discrimination". Poker is a game which has never had barriers to entry other then funds.

Not free tonight but can make it tomorrow (Wednesday) night... A couple of poker organisers have dropped hints about hosting a satt for those who prefer to play live.

Stephen - will the prize fund be paid out on the day or put back into the winner's online Titan account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Gillybean72

Tried again for this last night and it was cancelled yet again.. what are the chances of this going ahead? I doubt there will be much chance of a live Sat in Letterkenny :(
I wont be back in Dublin until the ME so wont get a chance to try there either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 386 ✭✭Laxie

There was zero hope it would run on Little Christmas if there weren't enough runners on a previous night. I'm home 4 nights of the week (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat) and will sign up on each of them. Fingers crossed we'll get them going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭ElectraBlue

I agree... Little Christmas bad time to play! :p

There's been very little promo other than word of mouth so far so it's early days yet... With 44 days to go - lets give the lads a chance to coach their wives/other halfs on the game first! The satts will be filling and flying by start of Feb... :D
