Your TOP 5 "Must Have" PS3 Games

    Hi guys!

As you may know, I got a PS3 for Christmas and I was wondering what your Top 5 "Must Have" PS3 Games were?

I was thinking along the lines of:

    Grand Theft Auto IV
    Assassin's Creed
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    Fallout 3
    Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Would I be far off the mark with the above?

Now, I'm not a huge fan of First Person Shooters on Consoles as I firmly believe they should ONLY be payed on a PC with a keyboard & mouse and that's why there's no Call of Duty in my list. I'm also not a fan of Sports games (especially soccer which I despise!) so no PES either.

Anyway, enough rambling, what's your Top 5 "Must Have" Games for the PS3?

    I'm thinking the below.

    1) Fifa 09
    2) Gears of War 2
    3) PGR4
    4) Streetfighter 4 or HD
    5) Halo

Honestly? The PS3 doesn't have any "must have" games maybe MGS4?
But there's a lot of "should have" games.

My PC i use for gaming etc.
My PS3 I use for watching videos, downloaded tv shows..movies etc.
My Xbox I use for GOW2 but maybe only for a hour or two a week.

The PS3 has its fair share of "must have" titles imo, but a lot of those are multiformat titles.
    Some of my favourite exclusives below;

    Wipeout HD
    Uncharted
    Ratchet & Clank - FtoD
    MGS4
    Gran Turismo Prologue
    Stardust HD

    LBP is ****e

I also use my PC for gaming but my PC is also what I use to download and watch movies / TV shows. How do you that on the PS3???

MGS 4 is €45 in Argos, best price I've seen around to buy it new at least.

No, Gears of War, PGR and Halo are all Xbox360 exclusives - there's probably a missing sarcasm tag somewhere in that post...

Don't bother with Assassin's Creed... huge hype, huge disappointment. It is very impressive for the first 15-20 minutes, until you realize just how repetitive it is.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is indeed very much worth it, a surprise for a brand new IP and should be very cheap to pick up these days (also available as a Platinum title). It is like Tomb Raider in concept, but so much better in execution...

Motorstorm 2 is a very fun arcade racer and another PS3 exclusive.

And even though not exclusives, Fallout 3 and Dead Space are both lots of fun (though polar opposites: Fallout takes ages to complete, Dead Space is kinda short).

    1) Call of Duty 4
    2) Metal Gear Solid 4
    3) GTA IV
    4) PES 2009
    5) Madden 2009

Madden is really good even if you dont like american Football, very easy to use and get used to, id recommend it for an alternative to FIFA or PES for a change.

Was trying to find Madden 2009 but couldnt find it anywhere... i reckon it might be a great game until I go online and play some Yank who whips me by over 100 points....

thank you for this serious review J-blk! :)

Rang Gamestop in Santry and they also had it for €45 new (€40 second hand) so I think I'll e picking it up this afternoon! ;)

I actually played Assassin's Creed on the PC for about 30 minutes and I did indeed find it quite repetitive even then... Might give that one a miss, unless I find it for cheap!

I like what I'm seeing so far re: Uncharted. Might pick that one up very soon also! And Motorstorm 2 does look like fun and I like racing games (to beat my flatmates silly and make them mad!). :D

I'm also very interrested in Fallout 3 but because of the FPS option I'm thinking of sticking to the PC for that one... Not sure yet...

Anyway, thanks again for your replies lads!

I think my first few games will be:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (freshly downloaded)
Ratchet & Clank - Quest for Booty (freshly downloaded)
little Big Planet (got it with the PS3 from the GF)

That's not bad considering she only gave me the PS3 on Sunday evening!

Well I had a PS3 since April when I got the GTA IV pack. I primarily picked up the PS3 for MGS 4 but well I enjoyed the game I was somehwhat dissapointed, I felt it was not as good as the original or MGS 3.

I have the loan of FIFA 09 currently and I'm quite impressed with from a gameplay perspective, that coming from a Pro Evo player.

Just purchased Valkyria Chronicles on sale for €29.50. Only played it breifly so I can't really comment on it other to say it looks really nice.

After that I'm would not be bothered with the Resistence series as I stick to PC gaming for my FPS needs. I would also endorse getting Fallout 3 on PC. (better graphics, mod support and offical DLC, plus the trusty keyboard and mouse!)

Racing wise I know Race Driver Grid is excellent ( I have PC version but they are the same more or less). Motorstorm I hear is mean't to be solid enough but I'm not a huge racing fan, for that reason I'm going skip GT 5 Prologue and wait for the full game. Pure is mean't to be a pretty decent racer as well if you like ATV's.

Must say I'm tempted my Racket and Clank now that its platinum. I'm deffo going get Wipeout HD and SF 2 HD Remix whenever its released over here.

As for Little Big Planet, I figured this game would divide opinions. I'm suprised that no reviewer mentioned the fact that a huge number of people would not be interested or have no paitence in creating content. I don't have any issues with the high scores its receiving but I would not expect it to set the world on fire sales wise, as its something of a niche market. People with no internet connection would be left out in the cold as well. To me that just leaves LBP as a platform game, which I hear is pretty decent but would not be enough for to warrant a purchase. I might consider it after a price drop.

My thoughts on 3 big games for the PS3 that I have played in full are below.

    MGS 4
I thought the story was at times slow, the cutscenes had alot of needless dialogue. It had alot of loose ends to tie up and in this regard was abit hit and miss. Gameplay wise it was not too challenging and it was easier to gun your way through the game than previous titles. Never the less the game had some great standout moments and a great final boss fight. Some of the action cut scenes have extremely high production values. Graphics where excellent overall. Multiplayer seemed okay but was abit of a hassle getting it up and running.

    GTA IV
I enjoyed this. I found the story was overall pretty good with a likeable lead character and excellent voice acting. Some of the support characters where a tad annoying though. Graphical it was okay, but the physics where excellent. Could of done with giving us a few more mission types as well but the core gameplay was excellent. Buts its a fun game to just turn off the main story and go driving around and occasionally going postal. Since swapped this for Unchated and picked up the PC version. But unless you have a reasonable powerful PC stick to the console version.

    Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
I liked this. The story was super cliched but had tons of charm. Gameplay is similar to Tomb Raider except that the combat is much better. Also an extremely pretty game to look at.

    2. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
    3. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
    4. LittleBigPlanet
    5. Resistance 2
Its a nice cross-genre list for ya, there's something there for everyone i thinks

    Metal gear
    Uncharted
    Wipeout
    Warhawk

Them are four I always go back to with the same enthusiasm. I like dead space aswell but it's not a must have ,neither are a lot of the games I have.
Little big planet is just too luvvey duvvey ,I can spend ages in creative mode but there isn't enough foreground/backround depth for me to fully enjoy it:o

That's a good price for a new game! Where did you get this deal? I've just heard that Gamestop have some Sales since yesterday so I hope to pick it up for that sort of money myself!

Couldn't agree more Azza! I will never get a FPS game on a Console! These are for PC's only! :D

I also have GRID on the PC and even though playing with the arrows on the keyboard was a bit poo, I played it for quite a few hours so I don't think I'll be getting it for the PS3 now...
And I'm not a big fan of ATV's so I think I'll be skipping Pure also.
I'm hearing some great things about the Motorstorm series though! Might give them a try!

I'm not sure if I'm going to get hooked on LBP... I'm not an arty-crafty type of guy TBH... But I'll give it a proper chance before making up my mind anout it! :)

As for MGS 4, GTA IV and Uncharted: I'll be getting these in the coming days as they all sound like the "PS3 Must Have Games" I was looking for when creating this thread.

Thank you all for taking the time to post your opinions/reviews! You've potentially saved me from buying hyped-up crappy games! :D

I have no real enthusiasm to try GTA4. I got bored of SA and really had to force myself to see it through. So if people are saying GTA4 is even more of a chore....

Haven't downloaded Wipeout yet but looking forward to it.

I just bought uncharted in game stop for 12 euro used,
MGS online is just amazing , best gameplay ever online .
Saints row is actually better than GTA 4 because its just like san andreas, has graphics of a ps2 game but is better than gta , GTA 4 is good amazing graphics but not as much fun as Saints row 2:pac: :D

I picked up Valkyria Chronicles in game yesterday. It was on sale for €31.98 and I got a futher €2.50 off with my loyalty card. I actually went down to buy at the full €59.99 and boy was I pleasantly suprised by the deal.

I'd imagine the 6 best exclusive PS3 out games so far are.

Little Big Planet (Platformer and Content Creator)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Third Person Shooter/Stealth)
Ratchet and Clank - Tools of Destruction (Platformer)
    Valkyria Chronicles (jRPG/Strategy)
Uncharted Drakes Fortune (Third Person Shooter/Adventure)
    Wipeout HD (Racing)

The big ones still to come in 2009

    Final Fantasy Versus XIII
    God of War 3
    Gran Turismo 5
    Heavy Rain
    Killzone 2
    Uncharted 2 Among Thieves

I only bought a PS3 about a month ago so roughly in the same boat as you steffano, so far I would definitely recommend that you buy Uncharted. It is one of the best games I have played in a long long time on any format.

I wouldn't go as far as calling GTA a must have, rent it first and see what you think. Same goes for Little Big Planet, I got it with mine and havnt played too much of it.

Did buy Valkyria Chronicles the other day for 35 in smyths but not got round to opening it yet either.

Would also highly recommend Madden 09, great game!!

oops, I also have Fallout 3 and would definitely recommend it.

I never play FPS on PC any more using a keyboard and mouse is just far far too easy its like COD for dummies. Where is the aiming ? i dont get the same satisfaction of pointing at a guy and clicking as i do tracking him running with a joypad and picking the perfect shot its way more difficult and way more rewarding.

    My PS3 must have

    COD4

Must gets ( as in you should get and play but not "have" forever)

    Unchartered
    Half life
    Fallout 3
    Ghost recon 2

Hmm I must get around to playing COD with a steering wheel to make it more challenging. I think I can use the wheel for strafing left and right, the gear changer for moving foward and back. The accelarator can be used for shooting and the brake for crouching. Handbrake can be used for lobbing nades. I mean joypad is just way too easy. While I'm at it I think I'll break both my arms for the added challenge!

Pet peeve but Fallout 3 is not an FPS, it's an RPG... though you can play the combat parts of it as an FPS, it actually takes away from the fun. Though all the points Azza makes about playing it on a PC do make sense - I gave up my gaming PC a long time ago though so I have to stick with everything on the PS3 or Xbox360...

Lots of good choices, but one that seems to be swimming under everyone's radar is Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.

It's a PSN only game (€20), and I think it's been available for a few weeks in Europe. Spotted it by accident at the weekend, looked up a few reviews and decided to give it a whirl. Have been absolutely hooked since. It's a cross between a "jewel puzzler" (think bejeweeled or Super Puzzle Fighter) and an RPG. And, as crazy as that sounds, it works wonderfully.

    Review here: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/920/920016p1.html

As for another 4 for a top 5:

Uncharted: Probably the most charismatic game available, PS3 or otherwise.
MGS4: Simply breathtaking in so many ways.
    Little big Planet: Amazing fun.
    Valkyria Chronicles: Beautifully crafted game.

Mhhh... Interesting... I got Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty as a free download with the PS3.

Should I play Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction first in your opinion or does it make any difference?

Makes no difference, and seen as you got it as a free download you have nothing to loose ( apart from a small amount of time if you don't like it ) .

Cheers ,sorry about the english in that last post ,I was in a rush

Might hunt for an offer for cod4 on the PC so ,the ps3 (euro hoover) is not getting anymore money off me.

You NEED either Call Of Duty 4 or Call of Duty 5. Sickeningly good graphics.

You'll love CoD4 on the PC! Awesome game! CoD:WW (the latest version) brings you back to WW2 but Treyarch somehow managed to turn a great game (CoD4) into a piece of sh!t with the worst sound ever witnessed on PC... My advice: don't waste your money on it!

Had you read through the thread you would have seen that I have both games on the PC and that I despise playing FPS games with a joypad. ;)

    Fully agree though! Great games!

You've probably got the games already, but if you haven't, have you played any of the other Metal Gear Solid games? If not you could be incredibly disappointed with it. I liked the 2nd one, thought the third was ok, and have never played a worse "game" than the fourth.

Wipeout and Motorstorm are great games to play against others.

Uncharted is my personal favourite PS3 game and a must buy IMO.

Also, would you consider getting a second joypad instead of one of the games? I think the PS3 only comes with one now, doesn't it? It could come in handy.

Don't get gt5P. Get burnout. Its a lot more fun.

    Mine:
    LBP
    Warhawk
    MGS4
    Burnout Paradise
Resistance/motorstorm/uncharted (choose one of them. If you pick resistance, pick up RFOM in gamestop for a tenner)

    Hi Humanji!

I played MGS 1 & 2 and I liked both so I'm looking forward to MGS 4 and I hope it doesn't let me down! ;)

I'll have Motorstorm (don't know which one yet though) and Uncharted in no time! And, my GF is so brilliant that she actually got me a second controller already! :D

    I know, I'm spoilt rotten! :p

Well if you liked the first two, then hopefully you'll like the newest one.

And why do I get the feeling that your girlfriend is actually trying to butter you up so when she dumps you the blow will be cushioned? :D
