What do those quotes have to do with correcting grammar? We should ban pointless quoting too. :D

I dont like it very much but i normally feel more sorry for the poster that pointed it out, way too much time on their hands. Especially when its a small error.

I <something> people who spell wrong, their point just doesn't come across with the same impact that it should.

(Wait, should that have been a comma or a semi-colon? Damn you 5th class English teacher A.K.A, Mr. O'Brien)

(Wait, should that "A.K.A." have been capitalised? Bah, my mind is melting!)

(Wait, does "B'ah" have an apostrophe in it? Damn you inventor of the English language!)

(Wait ... nope, that last sentence was perfect.)

spelling doesn't bother me at all. The only thing the annoys me is text talk and people who go around annoying people about their grammar. I do find it funny sometimes though when a poster makes a point about another post and then when they get a reply and can't think of anything smart to say, they just use the old "I'm not going to reply to that because you cant spell" why dont they just admit that they just got "owned" and feel stupid about it and cant help but nitpick to make themselves feel superior

Correcting grammar is fine if it's for comic effect. And no, simply making someone feel stupid is not comic effect. I mean actually funny like this awesomeness: Link which was all the funnier because I got accused of being a grammar Nazi. :D

It's also fair game to correct someone if they make a mistake while correcting someone else's grammar. (see Muphry's Law) This is especially true if they spell grammar with an "e".

I think it should have been captitalised, and punctuated, being an acronym, and all.

And 'bah' is in the dictionary.

Acronyms and abbrevaitions aren't automatically 'full-stopped'. And it's not capitalised ("also known as" not "also. known. as.")

I'd never correct grammar or spelling, unless i couldn't understand what they were saying. even a typo like "gramammdfgkjer" would be fine as long as i knew they were talking about "grammar". language is all about people understanding what each other are saying, not about perfect spelling and punctuation.

    get with it loike!

Woah, terrible sensation of déja-vu there. This debate has been done to death.

Usually it ends up as follows:

    1) In general, spell-czeching and grammar-nazi behaviour are rude and may be shunned
    2) If a post is obviously not proof-read, or is littered with basic errors, ridicule may ensue
    3) Consideration should be given to posters who may be dyslexic
    4) Wiki link to Muphry's Law
    5) Flame-war
    6) Thread locked after mix of flames and re-runs of old arguments.

It wrecks my head - poor grammar/spelling/punctuation, not the pointing out of it. But most of the time, I don't see a need for pointing it out. Every time I see a "should of went" I grit my teeth and read on.
However, when people write long streams of words without any punctuation whatsoever... I can't hold it in. It looks imbecilic.

I try hard to, spell properly and punctuate correctly. But it allways confused me in school. Ive got that issue's with spelling I try to spell the word how it sounds insted of its true meaning. dyslexia, as a result of dyslexia i find it hard enough to get everything i want to say out of my head, then to consintrate on punctuation.. take's a solid 5 minites per post on averadge. but i found out that mozilla has a spell/ grammer checker which I want to add so then there will be no stoping...

I should have added it's usually easy to tell when a person has dyslexia and I wasn't including such people in my post above at all. It's quite upsetting to see people make fun of those with dyslexia.

No. I am not the strongest of spellers and sometimes posts are rushed due to work. There can be quite obvious mistakes but the simple fact of the matter is that if i am expected other people to read what i am posting then i should have the common courtesy to make a small bit of effort.

No pointing out minor mistakes, but full opprobrium for text-speak.

Also if the second post in a non-muppet thread is a snide grammar correction, it should be a banning offence.
