Not sure if there has been a topic on this but overall was 2008 a good or bad year for you?

For me personally it's been horrible. Started off great and went dowhill halfway through. I've done many cool things even in the bad times but overall it's a year I'll not be fond of.

I've still got a job though, but I want out so a positive turns to negative.

My son was born this yea, so for me it was the best year of my life. Recession, possibly losing my job, wages cut back... nothing can stop me loving this year!

Graduated with a BA this year (something I am proud of), met my beautiful girlfriend in this year, moved into a great apartment, got in touch with my half sister and found out I had two neices and one nephew. My mate from Zimbabwae will be joining me at my family home for Xmas dinner. It has been a good year apart from the fact that I have no job, and have found it extremely difficult to get interviews. That has put a real downer on my year. If I had a job of some sort it would be one of the best years ever :)

It sure as hell has been good to me. Got out of a messy 5 yr relationship, bought an apt, got promoted and have the best family and friends a girl could ask for. Life’s good :)

Depressing and Horrible year, like most. Hopefully something good out of 2009 now...

I can't wait for this year to be over. It was the messiest, most annoying, generally depressing year I can remember...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

This year promised a lot and delivered little. The tail end of this year is probably eclipsing the good stuff I did but right now I can't wait for 2009 to start so I can make a clean break.

was a very poor last 6 months anyway. lost 2 ipods, 2 coats, my wallet last week (all drunk obviously)

had a small crash in my car, only had one holiday away.

last 3 months were very poor.

    Cracking Year -

Left my old job which was getting really really crap. Blew off around the world for 5 months. Spent a fortune bought extensive amount of memories and new friends.

Came back. Went on the hunt and have a new job which i love.

Roll on 2009 it has alot to live up too :D

Yep. Have to say a fantastic year. Managed to take 4 months off work so spent the entire Summer doing what I wanted to do and working on little side projects that I love. Found a job just before I copped just how bad things were going to get - otherwise I would have been stressing but just kinda breezed it due to ignorance! I dont think Id change much of this year. Little annoyances that bugged me were finally gotten rid of and I managed not to smoke for 8 of the 12 months.

Roll on 2009. My main resolution is to quit again. And stay quit.

First nephew was born. On my 3rd job this year and found out I had a half sister too ;)

Personally it was eventful, but as a whole there has been a little too much doom and gloom doing the rounds. Hard not to let it rub off on you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

Pretty good. Started a good job which I still enjoy and have done well at, have and had some good relationships. Looking forward to spending Christmas with crazy cool gf. 2009 looks bright, but whatever happens now is good.

Graduated with a BEng, but can't even get interviews these days. Have been holding off on most of my spending due to lack of a job. Overall, the year has been ****ty enough, but as always, I do my best to have fun

It's been an awesome year. Became a father, bought a house, bought a sensible car, been to Botswana, Latvia, Germany, Czech Republic, made new friends, found out my job is super duper safe, given lots of perks by work, seen my father come thorough a very serious illness, got a new nephew, got some quality new music, watched my friends achieve a hellovalot of things.
    The list goes on.

Becoming a father is possibly the best thing that has ever happened.

    BOOM

It has been a great year so far (won't jinx it).

Celebrated 3 years with my beautiful girlfriend, am healthy, got a promotion, fell into a good sum of money, am debt free, and I went to Florida, New York, Manchester, Poland and Germany for holidays. I also went to Old Trafford for the first time. Fulfilled a childhood dream by attending Wrestlemania. I also found out recently that my job is completely secure which is a great relief.

4 out of 10, bit of a quiet interim reflection year before the next big great adventure. 2009-2010, these years are going to rock very hard

Brilliant year! One of the best Summers in a long time (obviously, not so much weather-wise), and I've done more travelling this year than ever before - I am loving it! Seriously, soem of the best experiences of my life this year, and I hope 2009 follows suit! :D

Been a bit crap in fairness in terms of things going wrong, i've been up and down, relationship been rocky but i am still in good form overall as nothing majorly bad has happened and i can be grateful for that. Only since december have things started to look up.

Post natal depression subsiding slowly, finally getting help for my anxiety, have made a couple of friends, may be heading back to work in January and i have two lovely kids who are healthy so cant complain too much. Oh and i also got good news regarding my pre-cancer cells they are subsiding so thats a relief!

But hopefully 2009 will be a bit better too, :p

Good in that I graduated with a first class degree, got a place on my Masters which I'm absolutely loving, and lots of plans for the future.

Bad in that we had a very sad death in the family. Also didn't really do much travelling/holidays (lack of funds :().

    So 50:50 really.

Oh, EDIT: Also our family dog of almost 10 years disappeared. Very sad. So maybe more bad than good :(

Easily the worst year of my life. Feel extemelly dissilusioned at the minute. Its like all of the realities of life are starting to come up to me a smack me round the back of the head! Failed first year of college and am now on a year out, but cant find a job, feel like everybody my age is moving on without me.
Then I'm hearing about the state of the economy on the news everyday and how nothing can be done about it. I wouldnt mind but I didnt even get my slice of the boom times. And I'm being told how bad its going to get next year and I'm petrified the government will bring back fees for when I return to college. I didnt get to make good friends with the people in my course for various reasons which is a shame because they are all really nice people, and this depresses me.

The weather was terrible this summer aswell and everybody seems very depressed this year, in general. Its as if nature is out to get us or something!

Look around. It's three days until christmas and it dosent feel like it at all. Nobodys excited about it and nobody cares about decorations etc. All anybody can think about, myself included, is what next year is going to be like for them financially.

Heres hoping that 2009 will at least be a good year weatherwise and I hope to god that Batt O'Keefe dosent bring back fees.

I failed my first year of college but went back and passed the resit. Then after about a month in 2nd year in around october I realised that the course I'm doing isn't for me. So I basically wasted a year of my life doing something I don't want.

Besides that though it's been fairly mediocre :|

    Good 'oul year tbh.

Got the young one started and settled in school, progressed well in the 'oul job (which was itself a career diversion within the same company I've been in for the last fifteen years), and am generally tipping along nicely.

I'm seeing a lot of my contemporaries (and relations) feel the pinch now in a big way, not everyone is as fortunate as me.

Surprised with the non recession based negativity that many here seem to be going through, is boards really such a hotbed of depression?

It started off good and then slowly disintegrated as the year went on, its just fallen apart now, I've had worse though. Hoping 2009 will be much better :)

As far as work goes, its been a better year than I ever could have hoped for, unfortunately this has been more than neutralized by the last twelve weeks being the saddest, most disappointing and heartbreaking I've ever had.

    The only way is up.

Has been a mixed year but far more good than bad. Still recovering from the major cancer surgery I had last year and still very tired. In April we got the brilliant news that my fertility was OK and we also did a job interview that we both got that enabled us to work in the same building in a job that I love. In May my fertility returned. In September we thought that the cancer was back for good but in October we were told that I was OK and in December we found out that we were pregnant - of course I am worried for our child to be but I am a lot stronger than I ever thought possible and am able to eat a whole panini and pasta! And of course I am still happily married to the lovely smccarrick. Could live through this year again...

I met the girl I want to ask to take my hand (not a boards reader so schh).
    Everything else pales in comparison.
Here's hoping she says yes in 2009!

I began the year eating packets of mustard in a friend's car.
It didn't get much better than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

It was alright I guess. I completed many milestones such as turning 18, doing the leaving cert, going to college, getting a drivers license, going to my debs. So I'm happy that I succeeded at getting the college course I wanted and passing my drivers test on my first go.

I no longer talk to someone who I became best friends with for a few months during the first half of the year. And I then went on to make my friendship stronger with a girl who is now my best friend, and now I'm also very good friends with one of her friends.

So overall, probably one of my best years of my life so far I guess.
