    Arsenal V Juventus

As long as Chelsea avoid Juve I'll be happy enough. Don't want the two teams I support to go against each other

    Liverpool vs Inter

Barca have the least options, only four possible opponents - can't play either of the Madrids, Villareal, or Sporting Lisbon (group opponent) so they are 50/50 to draw either Chelsea or Arsenal. Monster tie if it happens.

Lisbon look the plum draw for the 6 sides who can get them, inc Liverpool and MUFC.

    Roma against Madrid.

    United Inter.

Man Utd - Sporting would be best for us, I think.

    Besides that:

    Roma - Lyon
    Panathonikos - Villareal
    Barca - Arsenal
    Liverpool - Inter
    Bayern - Real Madrid
    Porto - Athletico
    Juventus - Chelsea

Would be a very good round :P

What's the rationale on teams from the same country not being able to play one another at this stage?

Surely ties like this are better to have early in the tournament than later...

I hate it when three teams from one country make it to the lsemi-final - I'd much prefer to see country vs. country clashes imo...

I would love Chelsea v Barcelona. The game would be a cracker, Barca will not steam roll Chelsea and dominate like they have every team this season. It would be good to see Barca play a side who is going to give them as good as they get as we have not seen that yet this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,046 ✭✭✭eZe^

Realistically Barca are going to tie one of Inter, Chelsea or Arsenal. Bring it on I guess, think we are capable of beating any team over two legs and it's hopefully time to prove it.

Madrid let it be Madrid. They'll still be crap in February.

Madrid tend to win the CL when they play really bad in the league.

    Quit that jibba jabba! :p

Rafa would love it, he'd love it.

The main ones would like to see:

    R. Madrid vs Liverpool
    Inter vs ManU
    Arsenal vs Barca

Hahaha, indeed, but they'll be splurging with the likes of Huntelaar, Diarra and possibly Benzema/ Aguero so they may be tearing sh*t up then. Personally I want to see Utd vs Madrid, or the classic Munich vs Madrid.

I dont think Inter or Arsenal will worry Barcelona as much as Chelsea. Inter's Champions league record is woeful and from what they have shown in this seasons competetion it does not look like Mourinho has sorted that out as of yet. Arsenal could maybe do it, all depends which Arsenal turns up. They have raised their game this season against the top sides and beat both Man Utd and Chelsea. Lets see how they get on against Liverpool this weekend. But as I said Chelsea are the big threat.

Good point actually, has Diarra played for Portsmouth in Uefa Cup? Because you can only have one Uefa Cup player in a CL squad.

Huntelaar and Diarra (Portsmouth) are not the other two are.

Did not know that. Then I reckon they will pick Huntelaar and omit Diarra if they buy him.

    Roma v Chelsea
    Panathinaikos v Villareal
    Barcelona v Inter
    Liverpool v Sporting Lisbon
    Manchester United v Athletico Madrid
    Bayern v Arsenal
    Porto v Real Madrid
    Juventus v Lyon

    theres my predictions

id love united to get lisbon or lyon, but i cant see us getting an easyish draw with liverpool arsenal and chelsea all in the draw

last 3 have no effort put into em but sure, hey who cares :P

I dont care who we get to be honest.

    Atletico Madrid
    Real Madrid
    Lyon
    Inter
    Sporting

We are more than capable of beating all those side's. People might say Real and Inter but I believe our defence and attack (bearing no critical injuries) are to strong for both of them. Bring them on. They will be more eager to avoid us.

No looks right what eze said. Champions league regulation 17.18

One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
− in the same competition for another club
− for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former
club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current
    season.

    I'm easy to be honest.
I'd be least happy to see Liverpool against Villereal.
    Still would be confident though.

Would like to see Barca vs Chelsea.
    Good game.

Hoping for Utd vs Madrid and Barca vs Chelsea.

I want an easy draw. Normally I take the idea that you need a hard draw, because it prepares you. Last year, imo, we got pretty much the hardest draws we could get at any point, constantly, and it worked out great. 99 was the same.

Inter and Madrid are teams to avoid. Although I'd kinda like to play Madrid, let Ronaldo win back the fans in the proper way, scoring the winning goal against Madrid :)
That said, in the CL, over two legs, I'd be fairly confident of winning against any of the 5.

    Inter
    Sporting
    Atletico Madrid
    Lyon
    Real Madrid

As a Liverpool fan i wouldn't mind Sporting or Madrid. Teams i want to avoid are Villareal and Lyon. Wouldn't fear Inter. Rafa has the CL curse on Mourinho.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭bigstar

you could say the same about fergie having benitez figured in the league, but you beat them this year. id say all the english teams will get through though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,608 ✭✭✭Spud83

Sporting are the team to get in Pot Two.

Panathinaikos are the team to get in Pot One.

However United v Real are just meant meet, Liverpool and Inter will prob meet, Arsenal v Barca would be great to see, but then I think Chelsea v Barca would be great to see as well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

Surprised Ferguson is still winding up Madrid, given the possibility of a meet. Will be a real needle match, and at least he'll be assured of a shop-window performance from CR.

1052: A colleague has just done a quick scout around Europe's leading sports papers, and this is what he has discovered. Real Madrid want Panathinaikos, Panathinaikos want anyone not Spanish, Roma and Liverpool want Real Madrid, Arsenal want anyone but Barca, Bayern fancy Chelsea, Real or Inter, and Villarreal are just happy to be there.

    lol

Watching it on RTE. There's an awful lot of nothing happening. Thought this was supposed to start at 10:30?

    /EDIT here we go.

I don't want Panathinaikos. There exactly the kind of team that will turn us over. Anyone but them, and barca, and juve... :p

    So Bayern or Roma please!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.
