They're foreign, they have to be thieves...

Knowing your neighbours as well as I do, I can safely say I haven't a clue if they'll give you your package.

I'd be very surprised if your neighbours don't give you your parcel.

If they don't, I reckon the delivery company are at fault. I assume it's signed-for delivery? The delivery company hasn't delivered the parcel to you, and they haven't delivered it to somebody you nominated in your absence. They can't decide to deliver it to some random person else in the hope it'll find its way to you.

well i would have given out stink to ups mate, there not supposed to just give it to anyone if your not there. However i think you should be ok just go home and knock on there door and ask for it, unless there legless on vodka u should be ok.

Good way of breaking the ice and getting to know your neighbours.

It depends whether or not they have any interests in blow up dolls.

I don't think they're supposed to do that. If you don't get the parcel, UPS will be responsible.

    zaph - i hope so,

Of course you'll get your parcel, unless the people have been here long enough to catch our local thieving ways.

OP, whatever you do don't tell any taxi drivers about it in the unlikely event of the parcel going missing.

depends... if you interupt them while they are in the middle of eating their own children, they might get angry.

They may at this point use the goods had delivered for a use that is was not intended for and void the warranty.

Safest bet its to call your local militia and get them to pump the place full of tear gas, throw in a couple of flash-bangs , run in and grab your parcel.

Then nip back into your own apartment, and a few seconds later walk out looking annoyed, and threaten to complain about the noise.

    Usually works for me.

Did you not know? The law now states that if you make assumptions about anything (even stuff not foreigner related) you are a racist. Theres no way around it, sure even implying that someone is foreign makes you racist. I myslef am racist because I have a German passport.

My next door neighbour regularly takes in packages that come to our house. They have been our neighbours for 30 years though (we are end of terrace so only have 1 next door) . It's a bit of a throw back to the "good old days" when people knew their neighbours. People are naturally suspicious of people they dont know nowadays.

    I've now got your parcel.
Your neighbours were afraid to hold on to it.
They said their Geiger counter went off the scale when it come thru the door.
They also mentioned that the radiation from it was interfering with the TV as they were watching Eastenders!

I'm now holding it wearing a full hazmat suit and hoping to god the ticking don't stop before you come home!

So let me get this straight:
1 - Your neighbours are foreign
2 - You are asking them to deliver a package...

    Only one conclusion....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They can do. If the shipping party or the customer feel that this isn't acceptable, its an option with the courier not to deliver to a next door neighbour.

You should probably take the opportunity to collect your package then tell ups you didn't get it.

Then when they send you a replacement you can pass it on to me.

How exactly does a conversation with a stranger get to the point where they are telling you about sexual abuse they suffered? You reallly need to work on you technique for how to nip certain things in the bud. It might involve being rude to the more insistant ones though.

that the wife is smokin hot like all eastern women

Give it time. They dont seem to age very well at all.:)

It is racist (well actually more prejudicial as they are the same race) due to the fact that them being Eastern European has nothing to do with his dilemma. It is as relevant as if they were tall/short/old/young etc. The only logical reason for mentioning the fact that they are Eastern European is that the OP believes that this impacts the chances of them being honest.

If you are describing someone by their race/ethnic background, you are implying that that has an impact on what you are discussing. If it is to portray a stereotype or a slur, then it is racist.

    Example...

"There's this hot girl I would like to get with, but the problem is that she is Eastern European so I don't know if she speaks English well and I'm afraid that she might want to settle in her home country, but I don't want to leave Ireland"

...is OK, as you are not inferring any stereotype or slur on her. The fact that she is Eastern European obviously affects the likelihood of both her English language capabilities and her staying in Ireland permanently

Likewise (when pointing out the 1 black girl in a crowd of white girls)..

"Yeah, Mary is the black girl, and Anne is the one next to her with the brown hair and red top"

...is also OK as you are using it solely to describe the girl's physical appearance and not in a discriminatory fashion.

    However...

"so ups delivered me a parcel today, not gonna say what, but its worth a fair bit, but i wasnt home, so they gave it to the eastern european neighbours i have never talked to....

im normally very trusting of neighbours but since ive never spoke to them beyond the 'hello' when im leaving in the car for work, id like to know what boards thinks, im off work at 10, and ill be home at half, "

...is racist as the "normally very trusting of neighbours" suggest that the only reasons the OP doesn't trust these neighbours is because they are Eastern European and that he has never never spoken to them beyond 'hello'.

OP, How do you know they are Eastern Europeans. Have you asked them where they are from? Have you seen their passports?

You hadn't mentioned the hot wife factor. Call tomorrow at about 11 when her fella is at work or browsing mobile phone shops.

All that depends on you caring. I bet you the op's neighbours dont care.

People in this country need to stop getting outraged on other peoples behalf.

My mother came here in the late 70's speaking very little English in a time when most people on the Island werent aware the world stretched beyond London. I dont think I need peoples opinions of foreign people explained to me.

They've probably already left the country with your property. They've been in that house across the way from you all this time waiting for the perfect opportunity to bag your big ticket online purchase. Both they and the package have been hidden away in a secret compartment on an empty container lorry currently trundling through the UK towards the continental ferry. No-one's going to catch them now. You really should have bought locally and supported Irish business.

I think it's a safe bet that they would care. I imagine most people would be offended if someone was assuming that they were most likely to commit a crime because of their nationality.

Would you care if, living in a foreign country, you were treated as suspect, because, "you know, you're Irish - you're more likely to be dishonest"

Is it really racist though? Crime statistics differ across countries, cultures and races. If the statistics say that Eastern Europeans are more or less likely to be thieves than Irish people, then why shouldn't that enter into the calculations when deciding the chances of them stealing the package?

Irish people on here are always moaning about people and saying how it's "so irish" to do certain things, never mind foregin peoples opinions on us.

All over the world people have pre conceptions about people from other countries. It's the way of the world and it's part of what makes us human and different to each other.

Trying to control peoples opinions and feelings in the name of being pc is stupid, pointless and wrong.

Do you read patiently through each word of all the nigerian scam emails, giving each one a chance and treating them on a case by case basis or do you do the normal thing and delete the lot of them because they are from scammers?

    Racist much?

Incorrect grammar and sentence structure much?

Indeed. There is a chance his neighbour is a well built Frenchman with light hair and a penchant for leather jackets, and is married to an Italian girl with a surprisingly Polish look and a penchant for tight white tracksuit pants, Marlboro red, pulled back hair and excessive fake tan.

It is a fairly off chance though. ffs like  Im going to guess you are the type who cant distinguish between a Chinese and Vietnamese person, or a Nigerian and Somali.

You should be more trusting tbh. Only last week I did a favour for a friendly Colombian I met in Amsterdam and took a package to his mates in Dublin (he found a 20 on the ground I didnt even know I had dropped. How could I refuse after such a kind gesture.)

If they don't have your package, ring the company, and tell them that you haven't gotten it. Then do a charge-back, if you used Visa.
