    Hi all
Does anyone know where I can purchase the bands that are used with assisted pullups?I do negatives and bent over barbell rows but want to build up to doing proper pullups.

    Thanks
    Remmy

How about just working the weight up on the lat pull down machine instead (if you have access to one)?

If you buy bands they will become redundance once you are strong enough to do proper pull ups.

I'd reckon that if you can get to 3 sets of 8 reps at 75% of bodyweight on the lat pull down then you should be able to get out proper 1 pull up.

No, totally different exercises. And why would bands be redundant once you can do a pull up? How many pull ups would make bands redundant? 3, 10, 40? You can always do more and bands enable you to do that.

I'd second the iron woody ones, don't bother with the cheaper ones and tubes you'll just piss through them. I invested in a set of iron woody's and they really are the business.

They are not totally different. I'd guesstimate the majority of people make it to full pull ups from building up their lat pull down strength.

How do you use the Iron Woodys? I see a few vids on youtube with people hooking them just under the knee on one leg.

    e.g.

The problem I see with this is that most people (without assistance bands) are strong enough to pull themselves from elbows full locked out to a position whereby the forearm and upper arm at a 90 degree angle approximately. The difficult part is from this 90 degrees upwards.

The assistance from the bands weakens as you get closer to the bar, so the bands are helping in the strong area (the bottom) not the common sticking point (the top).

In my opinion the bands become redundant as soon as you can do 1 pull up unassisted. Now you just have to start increasing the reps.

I can see your point. Just my 2c.

If you are reasonably handy you could make your own assisted chin up machine. I think this would give an even amount of assistance through the full ROM

Or negatives, they helped me hugely.

Oh and OP, chinups are usually easier than pullups, maybe try them first. The iron woodys get great reviews everywhere.
