In my own constituency Seamus Brennan died some time ago, and his seat still remains unfilled. Is there any limit to how long the government may leave a by-election? As far as I am concerned there is a democratic deficit in the consituency - I wouldn't be confident that an FF'er would fill the seat. But surely there's some limit on how long it can be left?

There certainly should be. Unfortunately there isn't.

How could party membership influence a democratic deficit?

Don't you have a number of other public representatives you could seek out should you feel the need to address a legislative issue?
