2009 Aspirations........

Following from the brilliant 2008 review thread what are your photographic aspirations for the new year......

Heres mine,

To convince my wife that a d700 is a good idea and the kids education will look after itself.

To get more work published.

To take a landscape picture.

To keep my nose clean on Boards, be nice to the right people and maybe just maybe I may be made Mod!

I dont really have aspirations as such.. but some of the following would be nice:

Get something published for money.. Ive had a few businesses come to be and ask could they use pictures ive taken and ive just said yes but not anymore :cool:

Get someting in a magazine for free if at all possible, this is different from the business one because id love to get something done in a magazine and wouldn't mind doing it for free.

Also figure out the 5D.. Can you change how you change the aperture on it.. its so damn annoying.

ALSO....... to finish my website lol.. I just don't have the time while im working.. cause it takes effort and its not something I want to do when im not working.. god I hate my job.. getting left go the 11th of jan! CANT WAIT! Ill get to take pictures as well properly haha

2009 aspirations...

Change username.
Finish website.
Involve myself more in photography.
Get some new equipment.
Learn the inner depths of Photoshop.
Try and cover a music gig. I like AR's music shots so it's something I like to try and dabble in.

I do not know what 2009 will bring. I would like to do a pure landscape photography road trip in the south of France if I can manufacture the time to do it. I'd like to do a little more macro type work. I need to get my camera repaired and make a decision about the waterproof casing anyway. Another big kite competition too. I will be kitesurfing more myself which means fewer photographs in the short term.

More than anything I want more time to myself to do some of my other hobbies. I have not - courtesy of photography related duties - had time to go swimming much in the last 6 months for example, and my needlework is sadly neglected as are my glass mosaic works. I basically need to do some decent time management in other words.

I want to do another calendar next year. This year's one turned out to be a work of art thanks to a very talented graphics designer who did a lot of work on the layout for us. And I want to put a book of kite photography together.

I also want to work more on the photomanipulations that I occasionally do as I'd like to push that side of my creativity.

The Boards.ie Photography Exhibition will go ahead next year (announcement coming really soon, promise), in spring, so that's on my list of items for attention.

If we do Charleville Castle this year, I would like to go this time. It never seems to happen for me.

I'd like - where I'll find the time to do this - to organise the trip abroad that was discussed a couple of months ago. I can't go anywhere until April however so that's going to have to wait a few months ago.

I'd like to organise another knowledge session if possible - I don't know how that will shape up for example.

That's it for starters.

Start an MA and make some money - then is it Art for Money ? Hard to be idealistic in a material world, but then when the rest of the country has no money , it doesn't seam so off the wall ...

get a 5d mkII :eek: and learn to use it

Overcome my fear/aversion of photoshop.. i.e. spent proper time to learn post processing

Make at least 3 photo orientated trips

Cover some MMA events and club training sessions, because i love MMA and want to portray it in my own way i guess.

Get a few solid shots from the UFC weigh ins on Jan 16th!

Maybe start a site ( closer to the end of next year, i'm nowhere near that level yet ).

My 2009 aspirations

1. Contribute positively to a Photography question/post (and not just ask questions)
2. Post at least one pic for C&C
3. Be at a stage where editing a photo involves more than cropping and resizing
4. Be able to avoid the following type of conversation with a camera sales assistant
me: "I would like a Product A please"
sa: "Ok, what type of Product B do you have already?"
me: "Product B? Well, um, er I don't have a product B yet"
sa: "Why are you buying a Product A if you don't have a Product B yet?"
me: "One Product B please!"
sa: "You do have a Product C, don't you?"
......

Apologies. MMA = Mixed Martial Arts, a sport that covers elements of striking, grappling and wrestling all in the one format.

UFC = Ultimate Fighting Championship, an American based Mixed Martial Arts promotion, currently the biggest one in the world. They will be holding their first even on Irish soil on Jan the 17th. The weigh ins are always the day before, open to the public and a great chance to meet fighters and get decent shots.

2009...

• Get a D3x! (I can hope, can't I) and some new lenses (more realistic)
• Promote my website, and maybe redesign it
• Take more photographs
• Get some of my work published, for money!
• Make a photobook
• Win some competitions
• But more equipment
• Become more knowledgeable in photography

Maybe some other stuff, we'll see!

• More work published by the mainstream media, I was published most weeks this year in the equestrian press.

• More work in general

Not much else really as this year I have done quite a bit that I wanted to achieve.
