Just wondering about the mod of the year vote.

Excellent idea, but the two mods I really wanted to vote for are not on the list. (Seamus and Nerin)

So what do I do with my precious vote now then?

In serious answer Gandalf Kharn organised the nominations, however at this point I don't think he is going to make any more changes at this late stage.

You can vote for me Gandalf.

I can fix any vote you like.

Send a cheque with the award and the nominees name written on the back. Alternatively I'll accept 20s and 50s, used notes only.

In the case of conflicting nominations, I will accept alcohol, drugs and other favours in order to achieve the correct result.

    I didn't pay much attention to this when I had access, but anyway;

Who decides on the nominees (for any of the categories, but in this case, mods)? Other mods?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭Gandalf23

You can vote for me Gandalf.

    It's mod of the year.

    Not knob of the year.

There's a thread in the Awards board explaining how the selection process works (if ye lazy gits were bothered reading it :p).

It's OK. Your vote has won my heart.

    That's all that matters.

    Thanks for the clarifications :)

Anyone any opinion as to why a nomination process has to be limited to a certain section of the community, away from the users who may wish to put forward their own poster/mod etc.?

I thought it was a bit like the Professional Footballer's Association "Player of the Year" type thing. The fans aren't involved in the nomination/voting just the other players.

That's fair enough, up to a point at least, for the mods. What about the other categories though?

Amp..... no one comes even close.

I'd imagine it's because it's easier to gather details from a single thread in the mods forum where there's a limited number of users than it would be from a thread in Feedback that could run to a thousand posts. It's only a bit of fun after all.

If thats the case, you might as well let the smods decide, or an even smaller group, the admins (those of each group whom are about regularly).

No one is trying to knock the fun out of it, but if it's a closed shop to a certain section of the site, then there is room for improvement, no?

I know there's about eleven million mods here now, but that's hardly the point.

Let it go. I doubt Amp gives a fcuk about what you think of him now, or boards for that matter.

Im with the Roundmiester on this one, the whole mod of the year is a big circlejerktastic wánkfest IMHO. Its always a clicque who votes for certain members of said clique. I think the users of this site should have the casting and deciding vote here.

I tried to thank you again yesterday for a post on AS, but couldn't :/ I've thanked you in spirit anyway.

There's a clique element there at times alright, but I don't know if its as bad as it could be.

I'd agree though, that it (being all the awards) should be open to all. It could be as simple as having a nominated person for each category who can receive suggestions via PM, or on a dedicated thread in Awards, over say a week, and then putting the top twenty in the pot for a final vote. Keeping the poll hidden is a good idea though, as it adds to the suspense and the craic.

Calm down now Neil ... dont get all excited!! Big deep breaths, take the caps key off, and use your indoor voice.

I'd hate for you to lose the run of yourself again and get another feedback infraction :D

    Kisses ;)

Look Neil, I've already asked you by PM to stop coming on to me. I am not interested.

The kisses and other (ahem ... ) "offers" you made via PM are cute (and flattering) but your just not my type.

What part of "no" don't you understand?

Look Neil, I'm sure you'll find some nice boy someday soon .... plenty of fish in the sea and all that :D

I'm just out of your league.

Maybe set your standards (a lot) lower and keep trying!!!

Tip: next time you like someone, dont come on so strong by PM. Some people might be into the kinda stuff you were offering, but you need to lead up to it slowly :D:D

Poll idea doesn't really work because you'd never be able to have a poll that could cater for all the potential candidates (especially for the like of poster of the year).

Maybe a sub forum of awards that is private. When it comes time to decide nominees a certain amount of randomly selected users (Randomly selected to a certain degree obviously to rule out people who signed up but haven't been active in ages). These guys discuss it in the forum and make their nominees. Requires a bit of effort, especially with the randomly selected thing though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Randomly selected shortlist committee could work out quite well actually.

Why not leave it open for feedback to decide.

Because, ya know, that won't degenerate into 400 pages of abuse towards some mods/users.........

I know a poll won't work, at least not until the number of candidates/mods/users etc., is whittled down to twenty.

I still think one nominated person for each category is the way to go. I'm erring away from the idea of an open thread, due to the almost inevitable cliquery and muppetry from those with an axe to grind (as I see GY has already alluded to in her own unique way ;) )

Don't know how to phrase this but I'll try briefly. A lot of great modding goes unnoticed by the masses, it's just the way it is. A forum running well is credit to the mods involved.

Everytime I think about this I come up with mods that are worth a mention that have been missed by us in moderators, it's just the way it is, dodgy memories and all.

At the end of the day it's only a bit of fun with no-one taking it too seriously. Kudos to those up there, I know the mods listed in awards that operate in the forums I frequrent are deserved nominees.

Vote for me instead of Terry. My ambition is to get more votes than Terry but I think half the users in C&T have forgotten I exist because they are so well behaved usually and I'm not sure too many of the photography forum know that there is life outside photography. I need help.
