Now, I consider myself a music fan, not specifically a rock or metal fan. there's no way I could possibly pick one favourite. There's so many great genres out there, so many bands, so many artists, with so many albums, that it just couldn't be possible to nail down one. I mean, I'll listen to anything from Gojira to Bjork to Daft Punk to Herbie Hancock to SRV.

Glad you liked that Brian Uckfast, Joe Hisaishi absolutely stunning, I've more of his soundtracks than of any other composer, and have the DVD that the above video is from.

One style of music that has a special place in my heart is anything featuring the distinctive sound of the good old Commodore 64's SID Chip. It's amazing firstly what the chip designers managed to build and secondly what the muscians managed to create.

Ah nice one, videogame music for the win. I didn't have a Commodore 64, the Amiga was my first. Had a listen to Machinae Supremacy there, pretty damned cool it has to be said.

If you've ever played the first mission of Homeworld, you'll know how amazing a tune Barber's Adagio is. I love that one. I'm very fond of classical music in general. It was the rock'n'roll of its time, really, everyone was trying to do something new, ever more complex melodies and patterns, it's pretty breathtaking stuff when you listen to it as something other than background music. I can't hear it at all without going all misty-eyed. Probably because of what happens in the game

One non-metal band I can't get enough of at the moment is The Real Tuesday Weld. They have a really strange synthesiser/cabaret/techno/oldschool thing going on, and it's just perfect listening for me right now. For an example of what they're like you could do worse than typing "Bathtime In Clerkenwell" into youtube...
