subtitles-problem -upc

    getting subtitles on some upc digital channels which i do not want. i tried a factory reset to no avail-any ideas on how to solve the problem?

    This happened, occassionally, on cable in Cork last year. It mainly seemed to affect the u.k. terrestial channels(BBC 1&2 and UTV). If you press the subtitle button on remote it removed them at least until you changed channels. I speculated on here at the time that it may have been part of an interactive test. The subtitles only lasted for a short while and I haven't seen it for several months. I have a chorus sagem set-top box.

    There may be a default setting for subtitles somewhere in the settings, I forget...

    There is, it is part of the main settings menu. You can select the language for the subtitles. It is probably set on English, if you use the left arrow the selection turns to No and this will turn subtitles off across all channels.

    Subtitles are generally only available on the main English stations (BBC/C4/ITV) but it would be nice if they could have them on RTEs and others as well. If you use your TV remote you can sometimes get the normal teletext 888 subtitles as well.
