I know, the undercard on ITV had some cracking KO's too

    sorry didn't see this thread:o

Pascal seems tired now. Froch could get a late ko. the punches both these guys took up to this point is incredible.

Right decision? Seemed a wide margin on two of the cards

Froch definitely won the fight in my opinion, but I thought it was closer than the judges scorecards. I gave Pascal most of the early rounds - Froch came on strong towards the later half. Cracking fight!

He won it fair play. But jesus christ his jab is terrible lol.
    Great fight.

    Tremendous fight !!

I love boxing because of fights like this.

The first 4 rounds both swapped bombs, with many landing flush (esp. on Froch) but both men showed rock hard chins. After that Froch's jab took over and he landed it continually, interspersed with good combinations, whereas Pascal's work was less consistent. He landed some very eye-catching punches but just not often enough.

I'm delighted for Froch. I've always liked him, from the first time I saw him in the World Ams Belfast 2001. There's just a hardness and composure about him that you very seldom see and boy he proved both those tonight.

    Once again, GREAT fight !!

Man what did the judges give it to him by 8, 6 and 4 How did the reckon he won by 8 or 6 ? It was a ferocious fight (which he did win) but not by such a huge margin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭megadodge

I agree that the 6 and 8 round margins were too big.

    4 rounds seemed about right.

    Disagree strongly.

His jab is his best weapon.
It's top class. Lands it over and over again. Very accurate. Once he established it around round 6, he took over. It's what won him the fight.

A great coup for ITV! This fight brought back memories of Benn and Eubank in their heyday.

I feel sort of bad for Pascal but no doubt Froch was the winner.

I'd love to see Froch take on Pavlik next!

Are you out of your mind?He landed something that resembles a jab alright consistantly. It looked more like an off balance bitch slap.
And in no way way this fight better than collins and eubank you got to be ****ing joking. Barry g is full of ****.

Froch must have edged all of the close rounds, felt sorry for Pascal afterwards, very gracious

Jesus Mega, are you my missus, cause I seem to disagree with you on every thread? Although I will agree that he won the fight off his jab, it was because of Pascals weak defence.
His jab is awful. There is no way he would catch anyone like Kessler with such a weak jab. IMO.

i thought his jab was atrocious in fairness.

but what a fight, that was awesome stuff from both of them.

Froch has an excellent chin! I'd like to see him fight Kessler next, thats a tough fight to call, although you would have to favour Kessler.

Seriously good fight and great to have it on prime time terrestrial TV. Froch made a lot of new fans. There will be a lot of talk about that fight around the country on monday morning. "Did ya see that Froch fella on Saturday, what a fight!"

Have you ever seen Froch box before ?
Cos in every fight he lands his "off balance bitch slap" with remarkable consistency. He repeatedly knocked Pascal's head back with it and as I said it won him the fight. Nobody can deny that.

As Calzaghe proves again and again, substance > style.

And it definitely was a better fight than either Collins Eubank fight.

BTW, who is Barry G ?

I disagree with everyone you just said mega !Great performance tho.

There is no way Kessler will stay on his feet if Froch lands with some of those punches he threw tonight. So while Kessler might be ahead on points i'd fancy Froch to ko him at some stage.
I think the reason Pascal's defense was so weak/porous from round six on was due to the cumulative effect of Froch's bombs.

For me this fight was up there with some of the fabled fights from the early nineties.

I'm not sure Nacho, Kessler's never been floored as far as I know and his defence is very tight.

I'd fancy Kessler in another excellent matchup.

Froch's jab or lack-of is neither here or there.
What matters at the moment is that imo this was one of the best fights of the year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 891 ✭✭✭conceited

Definitely one of the best fights no doubt about it.
Bu THE best fight of the year was Boxing.Cotto.vs.Margarito :)

well, Calzaghe had him hurt with that body shot and Froch hits much harder than Calzaghe. Then again Calzaghe skill enable him to overcome Kessler's defense- yet it did take him four rounds to do so! so yeah you're right Kessler will be a much harder target to hit than Pascal proved to be. Froch probably won't have the skill to overcome it.

Was a scrappy fight in fairness. Nothing like collins-benn or whatevr they compared it to. it was a bit of a brawl which can be interesting to watch but imo a bit novice like for a world title fight. Didnt like Frochs jab just like i dont like a lot of calzaghes techniques, thats not to say it wont prove succesful in many fights to come.
    Isnt Taylor the immediate mandatory?

You're right about one thing, it was nothing like either Collins-Benn. They were very ordinary fights !! The only satisfying thing about either is that I always reckoned Collins would beat Benn and although Nigel was past it, I still maintain Collins always had the right style to beat him anytime.

You must have hated Hagler/Hearns then ?

Some people must have foggy memories because both Collins v Benn fights were terrible. The Collins v Eubank, Eubank v Benn, Eubank v Watson, Benn v Watson and Benn v McClellan fights are the great ones from the 90's. Eubank's fights with Carl Thompson were really good aswell.

I didn't get to see all of the fight and I was slightly intoxicated but it did look a very good fight to me and was full of excitement. Definitely something that could have caught the (British)public's attention on ITV1.

"Joe Calzaghe doesn't knock anybody out lately - he slaps for 12 rounds, and against both of his last two opponents he got decked in the first round"

I wonder will that tempt Calzaghe to fight on. While i've little doubt Calzaghe would beat him on points, Froch is right in that if Pascal coluldn't knock out Froch with some of the bombs he landed there is no way Calzaghe would be able to do it. If anything were Froch to land one decent punch it would be Calzaghe that would be knocked out. However, Calzaghe would fight at a much higher pace than Froch has ever fought at. His punch output is phenomenal. So unless Froch did manage to catch Calzaghe early on there would only be one winner, Calzaghe.
